Barry, I own a Copper Chef version of that egg maker and absolutely love it. It has an automatic shut off, does up to 14 eggs and has a tray for poaching. The best part is the boiled eggs, though, because the shells come off so easily and it's a really simple, quick way to have boiled eggs in the morning. Edit - The eggs from mine are always perfectly cooked, too...not with that sulfur ring around the yolk. The tray is for making scrambled eggs/omlettes, and ours got a brown spot on the metal bit as well, so we switched to using filtered water. I think it's just the impurities in tap water burning on the metal. Not really dangerous, I don't think, just not very nice to look at.

Normally those egg cookers work like this: When you turn them on the red light will light up and the cooker starts to heat up. After a while when the water starts boiling the red light will shut down and it stops heating up until the temperature drops down too much. That's when the heating element is turned on again and the red light lights up. (There's a relay in these things, that's why you hear that click when the heater turns on) When the water is evaporated and the eggs are cooked the boiler will beep and you have to turn it of or it'll get damaged. At least that's how every cheap egg boiler worked that I've seen
@danceswithsheep30585 жыл бұрын
LuckyLukas98 yup, I have one of those gadgets and when it’s ready it makes such a loud buzzing you can hear it anywhere in the house. Of course, I’m looking at you Barry, the trick is not to switch it off before it’s finished otherwise it won’t beep when done 🤣
@someonedifferent1985 жыл бұрын
I have used a few in my life, they last forever (but mom would not let me take hers when I moved out :P ). I find them really handy, I don't have many gadgets in the kitchen, but I love the ease of the egg cooker. In my experience they all get a dark build up really quickly, water is not just H2O and those impurities will leave some dark spots, but you do not have to worry about them at all!!! Barry really should have waited for the noise, the complains there aren't any instructions, but that instruction was actually present.....
@Nothhart5 жыл бұрын
The egg cooker I have actually has a auto-off feature. Once all the water evaporates the whole thing just switches off. It doesn't have a buzzer, so I set my kitchen timer to go off roughly a minute before the cooker should finish (mine came with a rather thorough instruction booklet that lists approximate cooking times based on how much water you add to it) so I can prep a bowl of cold water to put the eggs in. If I do hardboiled eggs and don't promptly put them in cold water they'll wind up with the browned/greyed yolks like the ones in this video. Also the "burnt" stuff is just water impurities. If Barry didn't wash the eggs before putting them in the egg cooker that would explain why it looks extra dark/gross since residue on the eggs would have just burned off a little bit. Good ol' soap and water will clean that up fairly well though.
@someonedifferent1985 жыл бұрын

Barry: Unfortunately again this is User Error. The burnt bit is because you let it boil dry when it told you not to. The metal dish is for making Omelettes or Poached egg in it instead of using the egg holder. Also you turned it off and let it sit so the yokes ended up grey with oxidation of the sulphur compounds in the yoke. The whole dropping in ice water stops this by stopping the cooking but you did this well after you stopped applying heat. These machines are great and mine does up to 12 in one go but is a bit more expensive so has a self shut off as well as a timer just to avoid the boiling dry.

Those devilled eggs look delicious! I think the problem with the egg boiler was that there wasn't enough water in there and it boiled dry. I love the fascination of the egg boiling gadget. We had something similar, when I was a kid (guessing many did? - at least here in Denmark). So that's something like ~20 years ago. They were already old at the time. Fairly old gadget and very useful :)

I love my egg boiler had it for years, bought it in Germany, all the eggs cook evenly. The dish if for making omelettes in the boiler. If you put the boiled eggs into cold water as soon as their cooked the sulphur deposit will not develop around the yolk

The “ashtray” with the egg boiler is to make your poached egg or omelette. I love my egg boiler, as mine does switch off and also makes perfect soft boiled dippy eggs. 😁

Dearest Barry, The egg cooker is a great little gadget. I use it at least once a week. The tray is for omlets or scrambled eggs. ❤ Love your vids by the way.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I think the reason those Joseph Joseph crushers follow the same design is because they're using the mechanical advantage of a screw. One of the simplest machines, good for multiplying force.

Helpful hack for the cans, cut from the side with the can opener and you will cut off any sharp edge :)

I have a similar rapid egg boiler (made by Dash) & I love it. Mine came w/ an additional piece that is used to make omelets but it is plastic & has sections inside of it. It doesn't look anything like the extra piece Barry had though his is an omelet maker, too. The "burnt" area is also normal. Mine always looks like that once I take the tray out. Also, on the bottom of the cup you fill w/ water mine has a sharp needle. You are supposed to pierce each egg prior to putting them in to boil. It works a charm every single time I've used it. They also have double decker models that will do 12 eggs at a time.

1:20 that pan is for like poached eggs or scrambled, the egg cooker I bought had one and thankfully explained it as such also my egg cooker makes the loudest piercing ringing noise that goes through walls like they didn't exist, I wish my oven time was that loud.

Hey Barry! That metal tray thing is for poaching eggs, that’s what other kits usually say it’s for
@LadyP1015 жыл бұрын
The metal bowl is for when you want to make an ‘omelet’. Just grease the pan, put in your egg and fillings then put the metal tray on the egg holder thing without the stem, put the water in and cook away.

The cactus are reusable ice cubes. They make them in all kinds of shapes. The longer you freeze them the better they work. The tray for the egg cooker may have been the water tray. If it was deeper. You may have put the water where the heating element is so the water got more direct heat. The pizza reheater, you were using upside down, i think. There is a water area on the other side crust end. I have 1 but haven't really used it yet. Lol.
@JohnRedds5 жыл бұрын
The tray is for steaming food. Dumplings, baos, siu mai, watery egg, chicken, anything that fits. You use it in place of the egg... Cosy. That device is basically the upper steamer part of a rice cooker. Methinks the buzzer(and button) is faulty but the light off should have been an indicator to turn the device off. It should have a spring-loaded button like regular rice cookers that pops when the water runs out, but I think this one's just broke. You also left the eggs steaming a long time after turning it off from hardboiled, which is why the yolks are grey.
@Riinapopsz5 жыл бұрын
Yeah Barry... that dish was for the water for the egg gadget. You wouldn’t have burnt the element then 😂😂
