I think they fixed the shipping to 100 or more gets you free shipping. I only use this company for my comic needs since I tried them. They are awesome and cheapest.Great vid. thanks.

They definitely have the best prices around and the OPP bags really are quite similar to Mylar. I even saw they’re setting up an Amazon store where I think they may have free shipping on certain bulk orders. Looking forward to it!

I've been buying from these guys for about a year and a half and absolutely love the bags and boards. I think they are much better than anything on the market but that's just me. I'm just talking about their regular comic bags. I have not tried their mylar bags yet.

Glad to hear another positive review. I’m curious about the Mylar. I think I’ll give them a try next time I need to resupply.

I just watched your video and I’ve been buying Comic Pro Line Mylar bags for a little over a year. The only problem I have is that sometimes when I’m placing a comic in the bag they have a tendency to tear along the left side of the bag.

Glad to hear from someone who has been using the bags for a while. I haven’t tried their Mylar yet. Just the OPP so far. I understand the part about the tearing though. I wonder if that’s because of the material or the way they are sealing them. I do still like polyethylene bags which are softer and seem to have stronger seams overall but they aren’t as clear of course. Ultimately, aside from the occasional tears, it’s hard to beat the Comic Pro Line bags.

If I'm not mistaken, CPL's 56-point boards are coated on both sides. They also make resealable mylar bags now, too.

I’ll have to check those out. I recently got an ad where they were piloting some 2-sided boards but they weren’t in the sizes I need. I’ll have to look more closely. Thanks for the heads up!

They have free shipping on orders of $100+ now, not sure if you’ve ordered recently. I just made my first order with them a few days ago, spent $102 and got the free shipping. Got 20 top loaders, 200 bags and boards, 100 mylars with 100 28pt boards for those, and also a pack of 5 clear backer boards

Usually I order off Amazon, I added all the same stuff to my cart to see how much it would cost using other companies and it was $177 compared to the $102, so definitely a lot cheaper

Good shopping! I did get the free shipping when I ordered. It was a big factor for me. If you don’t buy enough to get the free shipping it’s pretty expensive for me since I’m shipping to the US. I’ll be curious what you think of the Mylar bags. I haven’t tried them yet but the price is so much better than egerber.
@firesurfer
@firesurfer 4 ай бұрын
Comic pro bags with Gerber boards seem to be the optimum as long as you buy the boards in 2000 lot. Currently about $174 for 2k boards. including shipping. Bags are separate.

Nice. Is this what you do for your books? I can't remember what I said in my video but I recently did exactly what you're talking about: using egerber half backs paired with the opp bags from comic pro line. This lets me put 2 books per bag and they look really nice. Have you tried the comic pro line mylars? If so, how do you like them compared to egerber?

The are currently offering some boards double coated on both sides I think this is trail run to see if collectors want them. They are also offering a resealable mylar bags now as well.
@northgardencomics
@northgardencomics 10 ай бұрын
I think I got an email about that. It would be great if they kept those and expanded the offering to the other board sizes. I like to double up on my longer runs. It’s more economical, saves space, and still presents well.

Thanks for the video! I also have gotten into using these CPL OPP bags. It has confused people I have shown it to that it actually was Mylar. The price is that of Polyethylene though, so I am going through my collection and replacing any bag/board that looks too old, so almost all polyethylene bags. I am glad I found these before I got too far into replacing bags/boards. The OPP can wrinkle on the odd bag, but not nearly as prevalent as the polyethylene. Also, the side seams can tend to tear, but this is not usually a big problem considering how much better the comics look, and the better protection the stiffer bags and 28pt boards provide. The Regular size fits the best, but that's my preference.

That’s interesting you mention the occasional wrinkling of the OPP bags. I noticed that too on some of the first bags I swapped out about a year ago. Not bad but I was surprised to see it. Overall, when they have a sale, you can’t beat the price. I admit though that I really do like working with the polyethylene bags. They’re softer and easy to work with. The downside is the stickiness they tend to get after several years.

Great information! I'm curious to see how they hold up over time, especially with the discoloration. They look to be a good alternative. Did a quick look and found them on Amazon but the price looks like they were compensating for the free prime shipping. Like $35 for 100 bags and boards. I'm slightly surprised you like the 7 1/8" bags since you double up sometimes. Do you have any issues getting books in or out when you put 2 per bag at that size? I find them a little too snug, so I use the 7 1/4" bags with the standard silver boards. There is definitely a bit of a gap like you mentioned, but I get worried with the tighter bags that I may damage them pulling them out. Looks like they actually have a 7 1/8" board as well. Might try those since I haven't seen them in any other supplier. Definitely looks like one to try out. Thanks for sharing!
@northgardencomics

Definitely seems to be cheapest to get these from the manufacturer and hold out for a sale if possible. Otherwise, that shipping is steep. Good catch on the 7 1/8” bags. I don’t double up with those. I only double on the Mylar bags with half backs and those are 7 1/4”. That’s more about the backing board though than the bag size. The egerber boards are the only ones I have where it doesn’t matter which side you put the book on. All the other boards I have should only get a book on the coated side.

What storage shelves are you using for your collection? Those look really nice!
@northgardencomics
@northgardencomics Жыл бұрын
Nothing fancy. Just metal shelving from Target. The shelves are wire and can tear up the bottoms of the boxes over time so if I had to start over I’d try to find something with a smooth surface for the shelves.

@@northgardencomics Great Vid. I too use wire shelving for my stacks. The simple solution to your box bottom problem is to buy wire shelving LINER. It is sold in rolls in either clear-ish or opaque. It is inexpensive. You cut it to size and lay it over the wires and viola, you have smooth shelving. Many brands have pre-perforated tabs to secure the liner to the shelving.

So since you have bagged a lot of your comics with comic pro line opp how prevalent is the splitting at the seam? Thank you
@northgardencomics
@northgardencomics 4 ай бұрын
They are definitely more prone to splitting than other bags I've used. it just doesn't really happen with polyethylene or polypropylene, or even mylar. That said, they look basically as good as mylar, and when you get them on sale you can't beat the price so I'm willing to put up with some splits. The biggest thing is to be gentle with them.

@@northgardencomics Thank you for taking the time to respond. What do you estimate is the wastage % wise? I hope not as high as 10%? I don't mind less than 5 each 100 pack.

Hi Chris, I am a great of your channel and I watch every new video. I think it was around christmas time when you posted a video on what presents to give a comic book collector for christmas. I showed this video to my wife and kids and actally got a new short box and some packs bags and boards from Comic Concept. I really like the Comic Concept stuff for the silver age and modern age books. I use the re-sealable bags. But it is not the bags that worries me. It is the comic boards that got really expensive. Now to your video. I think you are pretty famous for your 50 Cent and Dollar hauls and I think that comic book protection is very important. But has it to be mylar? I mean, I have heard that comic books present really well in a mylar bag but if you have some really cheap books who also might be in not so great shape, does it really have to be mylar bags? Please, no bad feelings. I like your videos very much but in my opinion it is like parking a damaged car in a luxury garage. I would use mylar - or any expensive bags and boards - only for my high class books.

Hi Frank, I’m so glad you like my channel! I’m glad you got some cool Christmas presents from your family but I can’t take credit for that. I haven’t done a video like that but glad it was helpful to you! And you are completely right! I don’t use Mylar for every book. That’d be too expensive. Also, I have many books that have been in regular poly bags for decades without any problem. I save Mylar for my most valuable and oldest books. I use poly for everything else. For example, all these new bags I bought look nice like mylar but they’re just polypropylene. I even have some books that are just a bag and no board so I definitely adjust my level of protection for the book in hand.

After a years use how are they holding up?
@northgardencomics
@northgardencomics 29 күн бұрын
For the most part fine. I went back and looked at some of the earliest books I bagged with the OPP material and some do exhibit some waviness. It’s a little disappointing but no different than polypropylene and still the cheapest thing out there. My takeaway is, if you really want long lasting appeal, go Mylar. For all else, the OPP are fine and affordable.

Is it ok to put 2 books in one bag, separated by a board?
@northgardencomics
@northgardencomics 3 ай бұрын
Some would not agree with me. I think it depends on the board. When I put two books in a bag o use a half back 100% acid free board which can have a comic in either side.

I just switched to comicproline myself. I love these bags. My only complaint is you will get some bags that will tear at the seam. Do yourself a favor and get the Mylar. It’s similar if not better than egerber. Shipping is not. So good but their Black Friday sale is great and will stock up then
