It's a shame that you dismissed 1Password on the basis of not liking the UX and instead recommending something without having properly compared it with the other options, of which 1Password is definitely a very good one. Realistically this video has little value in that it only compares Proton Pass with an incredibly inferior/basic option you have been using. In other words, it's an advertisement for Proton with little journalistic/critical value.

you were right about ProtonPass in the beginning, it was clitchy and not that great. But Proton responds to tweets super fast and rolled out improvements very fast and it has improved a lot now.

Great video, as usual. Thanks for covering the topic. I keep my keepass database synchronized on multiple devices by using the Google Driver app (on each device). It works flawlessly for me while also giving the ability to choose which devices I want to retain an offline copy of the database file, in case I don't have Internet access at the time of use; and unlocking is easy with my yubikeys or by typing the long pwd if I have keyboard available. I just don't use the browser pluggin on any device (for paranoid reasons). I do prefer to manually seek and copy & paste the pwd I want, making sure to clean up the buffer after authentication (the clipboard memory). However, I recently discovered a similar password manager called SyncThing, offline like KeePass, that offers the ability to share the database between devices via P2P protocol, which in theory is better than rely on Google Drive, in my case. I still struggle to trust online password managers, I feel it is too sensitive to allow any possibility of security failure, any leakage would be enough to compromise everyone as it happened multiple times with LastPass and others. Simply a no/no in my book, since many of these companies can cover up their failures under embargo (and a lot of money) to avoid smear their so precious reputation. Maybe "divide and conquer" could work in your case; keeping your more sensitive/essencial passwords in KeePass and the rest (the non sensitive and aliases) in Proton Pass for what's casual and not critical access, thus not fully commiting to a single tool and not dismissing Proton Pass usefulness.

i have so many problems with bitwarden that im seriously considering to switch to something else. firefox integration is buggy and every other update breaks it, ios app crashes randomly, when you open ios app it presents login detail multiple times so you need to close it like twice... its always something. not to mention that my simple login api key somehow disappears every other week so i need to find it and paste again

@@runQgC You must be doing something very strange. I've been using Bitwarden in Firefox for years and have yet to have a single problem with it. I have a pretty aggressive Arkenfox setup too, and no real issues. But, if it isn't working for you, try something else I guess.

Proton mail has a password manager, and vpn, encrypted mail and calendar and over all devices. Read up on the Swiss privacy and you may find it to be the most secure cutting edge. Most of all it’s owned by a non profit for privacy. I have been a security specialist for over thirty years. The more I look into Proton deeply, the more impressed I get. For example, things encrypt before they leave your computer and zero knowledge means the data is useless. You have your own keys, period. Not so with others.

What I didn't like about Proton Pass was that their icon in textboxes that indicates autofill was too chunky for my taste. The 1Password icon is leaner and doesn't stand out so much. And it felt like I had to fully commit to the Proton ecosystem to get the most out of Proton Pass, which I didn't want to do.

Hi Techlore! Great video! Just a quick question: If I want to switch from Keepass/Bitwarden to Proton Pass, do you happen to know if there is a way I can import my passwords to Proton Pass without manually adding them? Keepass is great, but the frustrations and "lack of" integration is becoming a bit of a pain point with me, and this video made me want to switch to Proton pass (in the near future, at least).

For Proton if you're extremely into secruity, you can set up 2 additional passwords to your first. Essentially a second password for your proton account followed by a second password for your pass app as well, which I really like. Additionally, the fact Proton HQ is based in Switzerland is an additional pro for your privacy.

Using a password manager that isn't independent of a browser, a website, or the cloud is not secure and definitely not anything I would ever consider doing. Proton Pass is end-to-end encrypted (E2EE). This means that your passwords and other stored data are encrypted on your device before they are sent to Proton’s servers, and only you have the decryption key. As a result, not even Proton can access your passwords or see your data. Proton Pass can generate passwords. It includes a password generator feature that creates strong, random passwords to help you maintain security. You can customize the length and complexity of the generated passwords to suit your needs. Proton Pass includes an email alias feature, which allows you to create and use temporary or unique email addresses for different purposes. This helps protect your primary email address from spam and enhances privacy by masking your real email address. You can manage and generate these aliases directly within Proton Pass, making it easier to control how your email address is used and who can contact you.

@@shaihaanx Proton Pass is integrated only with Proton Services, that are known to be backend-proprietary. Proton Services also include Proton Mail which was noticed in the disclosure of user data, leading to at least an arrest in Italy. Also, regarding Proton Pass itself, even if it has E2EE, the only option to sync is using those proprietary Proton servers. In the end, the whole business model of "all-in-one + privacy" already looks very suspicious. Like the typical honeypot.
