That cempedak is dried out and rotten. Cempedak is supposed to have vibrant green skin/yellowish brown with a golden orange-yellow meat inside. It is one of our favorite fruit here in Indonesia and it is very versatile. You can eat it raw or cooked it. Most notably as chips, jams, or in a dessert known as "Kolak" (coconut milk based dessert).

Cempedak should be golden yellow on the inside, and smells sweet, even before you peel it. If you got another chance to find one, you should smell it first.

The fibers on the inside should be the same colour as the fruit too, light yellow to orange-ish. If the outside has a lot of black or brown then it's likely bad.

I have a cempedak tree at home and the next few weeks is the cempedak season. By the look of it, it is a trash. Ripe cempedak should be light greenish to yellowish on the outside but pale orange on the inside. Those who grew up with cempedak tree will know when to eat just by looking at it and the sweet smell eminating before open it. The texture is softer than jackfruit but harder than durian. Fresh ripe cempedak can be eaten right away or fried it as a tempura cempedak. Cempedak is very sugary in taste.

Cempedak should be golden yellow on the inside kind of like a jackfruit. In Sarawak we like them stir fried with birds eye chillies, garlic and dried prawns or in a savoury spicy soup.

Cempedak!! It's been a while since the last tiime I ate it. It's more fragrant than jackfruit, but less sweet than that one.

If you plan to buy cempedak again, you should look for one that has yellowish green skin, and its golden yellow in the inside and it smells veryyy sweet to the point you can smell it from a far away. I'd say picking bigger sizes

A good Cempedak should be bigger in size than that and green either yellowish golden in colour . If it green and hard it still young if it turn golden yellowish and a little bit soft it is perfect to eat . You can either eat it right away or make a fritter like banana . Trust me its so delicious .

Im not sure if its what i think it is... We have one similar to this in our state which looks like a mini jackfruit... Yellow greenish skin with yellow meat inside with seeds. Its soo delicious and i think old people used to roast the seeds and eat but im not really sure. Its called Anjili chakka( അഞ്ഞിലി ചക്ക )
