Update: So I think, tentatively, the schedule will be biweekly (as in 2x/month) podcast episodes and 2 "regular" (plant info + experiments) videos per month. Commentaries and extras will live here, so you only get the content you want/don't want: patreon.com/plantrums

Just found your channel through the Dieffenbachia video, and I absolutely loved it! The history of plants and our utilization and proliferation of them is so fascinating and often overlooked; if you think about it, the gradual domestication of certain plants is kinda like the oldest continuous engineering project of humankind. Something as seemingly simple as an ear of corn has thousands of years of calculated and deliberate engineering to turn it from a few grains of grass into something upon which entire civilizations could thrive. Just about every modern produce we eat has an interesting (and oftentimes unexpectedly dark) history that I believe should be considered and appreciated. Think of the Dutch East India Company and their devastating colonial effect on the Melucu Islands in order to monopolize trade of spices like cloves and nutmeg/mace; how many people know where nutmeg even comes from, let alone the history behind it? There’s history in everything, and I’m excited to see where you find inspiration to search for it next :) Cheers!

You hit the nail on the head! There’s an almost impossible amount of history to dig into when it comes to plants. Re: The East India Trading Co - I keep thinking I want to add some sort of gif or something that says, "It's Time for British Colonialism!" because in all of my research on different plants, that and the EITC just. keeps. being. a. thing.

@ Yep! As an Indigenous scholar, my doctoral studies has shown me that just about everything in the modern world boils down to colonization… even within our Native community ideologies have become very westernized. I’m optimistic seeing more and more of our people getting involved with Indigenous reclamation, not just of land and culture but also of our foods. We shouldn’t have to live off of gas station food; it’s killing us.

Please get to and stay on topic. You’ve done good research and have presented it. It took 6 + minutes to get to a story you’ve told before. Please spare your audience the research minutiae!

I appreciate the feedback and am always looking to improve. How do you envision a good behind the scenes episode should go?
