The farmer that raises the pigs we put in the freezer, told us he has to separate his boars from his sows as soon as she get pregnant. He said the boar will harass the sow to the point of aborting the babies so she can breed again. Just thought i would share

There's another KZbin person I watch and she actually put pigs in a fenced in area around her pond to fix a leak. She said they going in and out plus rooting helps turn the clay over which helps sill the leaks. If I find her channel I'll put it here. Anne of All Trades is the name of her channel. Absolutely great idea for the pigs. Use 4 foot high livestock panels with barbed wire on the bottom. You could put two pens side by side with a 3 foot alley way between the other side by side pens . Gates facing each other and then you can move the pigs across the alley into another yard with a 3 foot gates that swings to close the opening in the alley. The idea is give them no space to run unless you want to. lol. So much fun to watch you build.

If you make a low fence from posts and iron you can make shelters in the corners by adding a roof thus keeping it simple and saving time and money. You will need to dig in the iron or add a steel rod to stop them digging. I think your plan of four pens sounds great…good luck with it.👍🏼

I get what your saying about the pigs, i can visualize it, sounds like a good idea. Make the pond in the middle and bigger? Maybe run some PEX or PVC to get water to that trenched in first, pond in the middle of call it the "Quad" pen i guess you can call it. Gonna take a lot of gates though in full quad mode, but this fence wont be that high, so it doesn't sound like it would be too hard to lift the gate panels in and out when you need/want to change configuration. Gonna need room around the outside of it though to handle feeding and all of that to each pen in quad mode. I guess you can have as much room as you need to do all that if you want too i guess?

Ur idea for 4 paddocks is an excellent one but u need to use horse fencing (it has 2x4 holes). Do NOT use the cheap 2x4 welded wire fencing, its too easy to destroy. Use the real stuff. The 2x4 holes will ensure that little piglets won't get out. Trust me, I raised pigs for 20 years. Do not cheap out on fence and u will need it to be taller than 4 ft. Thats too short, even for pigs. Plus, that makes it easier for predators to get in. Do it right the first time and u will reap the rewards afterwards. Otherwise its going to be a constant battle. Btw...I'm so sorry about Pickles. She was a sweet little girl. R.I.P. Pickles.

The boys are in competition...that's why Hank is bothering Breakfast... it's not that he "needs" to "get" a girl. He's just trying to show dominance, which is ridiculous with the size of Breakfast, Breakfast is clearly the lead, but poor Hank keeps trying... boys will be boys....I would definitely have Breakfast do all of the breeding. He has a better size/build and a much better temperament. Build your quad pen, that's a great idea. But put both girls in with Breakfast and have Hank secured way away in with the other animals. After you're sure Breakfast has done the dead with both of them... then put Hank back over in the "quad" and put one of the ladies in with him... he will be ok, not any trouble, because he's not in competition with Breakfast and because he has female company, but he just won't be the baby daddy. Then separate them out in the quad when the babies come.

Sounds like a pretty well thought out plan. I like the 4-in-1 pasture idea a lot. There is a way to make the gates swing open to cover gaps, cattle ranchers have perfected all the ways to do that. I'm not a rancher, so their gate cutting videos will give you a better idea of what I'm babbling about😅👍

I raise hogs and I use hog panels with a 2x8 on top and bottom with 4x4 every 4 foot apart. The pigs don't challenge the fence. My hogs are 600 to 700 pounds. Definitely separate the sow from the boars after pregnancy.

Pickles former pen could you use it for storage for your hay so it's protected from the animals & you could possibly tarp it from the rain? Hollar Homestead has raised several kinds of pigs & knows which are faster growers for butchering for food also. He would be great to talk to & pick his brain.

Put a post in the center of the pond so the 4 section has a portion of the pond make a couple more of those leantos but smaller because a pig doesn't need that big of a building. Just a thought lol!

A pasture that can be separated into 4 areas is the best way. Boars will injure and sometimes kill piglets, the boys are best to be separated from the sows. I was under the impression that Hank had lost his manhood? 😂😅 Maybe I missed something in the translation. Two ponds, four pens, and a partridge in a pear tree...😅 Love ya'll ❤️

I would just say that if you are going to have 4 sections etc for the pigs, you really need to double the size of the enclosure. It’s a great area for just two pigs but to live comfortably they really need a better area. Pigs are very intelligent as you know so giving them a great life would be a win.
