The Shadow Rising is my favorite book in the series too, one of my favorite books period. The Battle of the Two Rivers and the fight in the palace in Tanchico are two of my favorite scenes in the series. This leaves me super excited for season 3.

It's a streaming show. Literally zero restriction on episode length. Adding in the Waygate scene wouldn't take much effort. Wouldn't even have to use CGI for the portal. Just show Padan's face and use lighting effects.

That is an extremely unsatisfying answer for the Waygate and points to more bad decision making. Why put yourself in this spot to begin with? Why have Moiraine channel the gate open? Loial is right there, in the party. Let him do what he is there to do. The Ways are why he is introduced at this point. AND it would have saved some money without needing to render more channeling.

Amazon's Season 1 so severely dropped the ball that , to continue that metaphor, they "changed the sport". Short of pulling an "It was all just a bubble of evil/dream of the dark one" and starting over, I think they are so far behind that they will forever stay relegated .

Of course there has to be some changes for an adaptation but as we seen with Outlander it is possible to hold close to the source material in an adaptation and still make a great TV series. Rafe and Amazon dropped the ball big-time with season one. The first three episodes were good and it went straight downhill after that. The final episode was on a level with the Shannara adaptation. Hopefully with no pandemic they can turn it around and salvage season 2, but I'm not holding my breath. If season 2 is as far off the source material and is as poorly thought out as season 1 I'd almost rather it were cancelled. It's too painful to watch them half ass it.

The series completely loses its meaning and all logic when it turned out that Morein can open a portal. What was the purpose of all these travels? Why did they go through the Ways? So, I'm not looking forward to the second season and I'm very sorry that I saw the first one.

@@SkippD The waygate is always there. The stone doors just cover the side to prevent anyone from simply walking into it. The leaf was the key to opening the door. Moiraine doesn't really open the gate with the power, but cuts the stone door from its "hinges" allowing the slab to be pushed away.

@Mike Healey. Wheel of Time not big enough for Amazon to spend the money that it will cost for a trailer during the Super Bowl. The only Amazon show that would warrant a trailer or teaser is Rings of Power. If Amazon is likely to purchase a Super Bowl commercial, it will be a commercial that shows quick clips from multiple series. In that case, I would expect clips from WoT to be included in such a commercial.

I really liked Alexandre Willaume's take on Thom in season one. I am disappointed that we are not getting more until at least season 3 but it is what it is. I wonder if the original plan was to not have him in season 2 or if the covid delays/loss of barney maybe played a part and he had just signed on for another show. I understand Alexandre Willaume is terrific in his role in 1899.

Thank you for the update, any crumbs are welcome and March/April is not that far away. I will admit I had some issues with season 1 but I think the main cast absolutely nail their characters and once I got over the fact that things did not play out exactly as I expected from the books I found I quite liked re watching the episodes. On a compete aside I stumbled onto a clip on KZbin that actually shows Donal Finn in action. Maybe everyone already knows this but for those late to the party like me he's in a BBC series set about the formation of the SAS during World War 2 called SAS Rogue Heroes.

Hoping Season 2 brings much needed new life to the series, along with Rafe and the writers sticking a little more closely to the source material plot points instead of creating their own this time around. I'm all for updates, and adding stuff, but it needs to be to the betterment of the series not detriment. Look forward to what the teams done!

From what I can tell, Rafe was trying to introduce some core concepts and themes without really out of place exposition dumps. It didn't work out that great, but I can understand some of what he was going for. I think Rafe is going to stick with TGH/TDR's basic plots for S2, and definitely to TSR/TFOH for S3.

Actually I think you guys (book fans) killed the golden goose. People always forget that the first season of GOT has a lot of changes from the books but stayed true to the whole plot . Read the books after watching the show and personally don’t see what all the book readers are on about . It stays true to the frame of the book and that’s all you should expect .

It should not expected to be word for word and/or scene for scene: that's not possible in this case. It's often what happens with translation from books to screen, but while some changes are understandable, and necessary, there were no adequate excuses to explain some of the changes that were made. For just one example, in the books, Moiraine was subtle and nuanced, but in the first episode, she came across as an arrogant, haughty snob. I could go on for hours, but I doubt most seeing these comments would appreciate that here and now. I have good reasons for my perspective, just as do those who really like the show. Some things that bother me don't bother them and vice versa.

Further, my opinion killed nothing. Any response to an opinion comes solely from the mind of the person having that response and no where else. My opinion is my own, and no more or less valid than any one else's. Whatever happened with the "golden goose" couldn't have had anything to do with my opinions or anyone else's because any damage had to occur before said opinion could be formed. I've been watching adaptations of stories for a long time and have been taking note of opinions of those who differ with me, those who don't, many having spent a lot of time examining adaptations, sequels, prequels, new and old productions, and whatever else. I do have some experience with this stuff.
