I just watched the film tonight and I truly loved it. It was absolutely fantastic acting by the two leads and the cinematography felt so brilliant, as well as the sound engineering. It really felt like aloneness feels, the long long aloneness, where any open space or silence just pushes up against you, the vastness somehow flips on its head and becomes claustrophobic. And for the character of Dell its felt like the calm of a pause button, the holding of your breath for ten seconds. The way she disrupts this is really filmed to feel jarring, and then complicated/confusing/pleasant. And when shes gone the silence feels almost like panic. I thought it was a brilliant movie. I’m sorry to hear that it wasn’t received well. Not that I’m surprised (bitter resigned eye roll)

The way you explained it sounds like it could have been a metaphor for Peter Dinklige's life as a small person...he is an outstanding actor

We got this in at Walmart where I work and I'd been considering getting it. I love Dinklage and love films that are bold enough to be different from the standard gambit.

It’s Peter Dinklage. The man is an excellent actor who sells any role he’s in! If you’re telling me this is a character study, then great; I can’t think of a better actor for such a film.

This is one of my favorite genres: Last man on earth. Sadly we get so little movies like this. I absolutely agree with erverything you said. Would have loved a little bit more explanation for certain happenings, felt like some scenes were missing. Like, what happened to the dog? Did they fell in love? How did that brain thing work. And I definetly had to google some expalanations for the last part of the movie before I understood the message of the movie. As I love slice of life type of movies aswell as survival genre, the movie could have contained even more of that slow burn of the two main characters spending time together, bonding and just plain surviving.

I watched this film the other night with my parents, and I couldn't put my finger on it but I knew the film was some sort of metaphor for something, it was trying to tell me something without actually telling me. Both my parents took it at face value for what it was, we argued for like 20 minutes after trying to decide what the film was really about. 10/10 would argue again. I think the reason nothing was explained in too much detail is because nothing outside of Dell's character actually mattered to this character driven film. He is alone whether or not it makes sense to him. Like at one point I believe the female lead asks him if he was ever interested in why everyone disappeared and he literally just replies "it doesn't matter" and then carries on walking like the question meant genuinely nothing to him. The "story" outside of these two characters is basically one big McGuffin.

I loved this movie. The story is ok I guess, it wasn't boring, and it kept me interested till the end, but the visuals and OST were on point. I didn't feel the need for dialogue, it was pretty self explanatory. Now when I think about it, I got the same kick out of Valhalla Rising.

I just watched this film in July 2024 and I enjoyed this film. I'm glad I never saw the trailer because it would've ruined the "twist" or "reveal". It's a bit long for this type of movie but the story works. I'd definitely recommend watching this movie without watching the trailer and with the idea that it is more of a drama/character piece than "sci-fi". If I had gone into it looking for a "sci-fi" movie, I would've been completely pissed. However, I was pleasantly surprised because I wasn't expecting anything. You do feel the edginess of something's or someone's coming after Elle's character shows up but you don't know what it's going to be.

This was a very intriguing film. What I take away is that everyone was trying to forget and move on from the past. Del cleans and buries the past. West coast people are medically erasing the memories. At the end, Del and Grace realize that embracing and honoring the past is an important part of moving on. It can't just be erased and actually gives the freedom everyone is seeking. Ignoring trauma doesn't heal trauma, it just makes you an empty shell.

I saw this movie and I feel it starts off real well when it just has Peter Dinklage but then it gets boring once Elle Fanning shows up and a very obvious checklist of events happen... except there was one that always had me wondering, the question of the dog and what really happened to him; Hey, Del, got anything to say on the matter?... but then gets really good once the rest of the cast shows up and the movie gets to its core message. Above average movie thanks to performances from Dinklage and Giamatti. But I can see people not liking it.

Won't say it is rare (you often do but you give everything you watch a critical eye before praise or beating it up) to hear you praise a movie for the value it brings but this one seems to have gotten to you Mr. H in a good way. I give a lot of thought to what you say and have found that when you up-vote or down-vote something my own criticism go that way as well. Just seems that I found the right channel on KZbin to follow and to trust to give an accurate portrayal of the material so I very much appreciate what you give to YOUR COMMUNITY.

this movie was panned?!? i mean, sure it's no masterpiece, but it is a well executed, slow burn drama set in a post apocalyptic world... sounds intrigueing? well it kinda is.. were the reviewers expecting some exploitation action flick because of the artstyle of the poster? if so, those people are really bad at their job

I hope before you sat your ass down in the library you planted a garden at some point, or you're going to starve, at least in the long term. Preppers food supplies have a longer shelf life but canned food goes bad after 1.5 years but they can last up to 5 years if they're stored in a cool dry place. I guess you could read a book on how to treat ground water and grow a garden while you're crapping your guts out on the toilet from eatting bad food and contaminated water but I wouldn't recommend it.

I did finally see predator as inflight movie and oh boy I am happy I didnt pay for it in theaters .. it was hot bowl of garbage not just the ends, the jokes didnt hit, the story didnt make any sense and the visuals were not good, predator ships and equipment looked like plastic toys, only hope is that Disney lets some indi dude with smaller budget get a hold of it but I am sure they will make some kind of pg toy movie because we cant have adult thing.

How can you generalise that we have holidays just because something happened in history. . Most holidays derive from history. Which is one thing Britain does have better than America HISTORY. Ok, you met someone from America. So, why are you demoralising Britain. This country goes back thousands of years. . America goes back a couple of hundred . We make fantastic programs like Only Fools and Horses Coronation Street EastEnders to name but a few. Plus we have this wonderful thing called the NHS. Where in America if you don't have money you die? . Plus America still seem To think they live in the wild west. . Whatever average person carries of Gun. Also in this country we have a roundabouts. . Traffic management. Also, we have the sense ability to put a price tag on an item in a shop and pay that price at the till. In America everything you buy is taxed at the till. . I love my country.
