Talk of nostalgia, I own an '88 Suburban. It was purchased new the same year I was born by my Grandpa, and was the first vehicle I had driven. He would let me drive down our driveway on his lap when I was a couple years old. When he died it became my Moms, and our primary vehicle, so naturally it was the vehicle I learned to drive on. About 10 years ago I drove it solo from Ontario, Canada to L.A. then up the coast and back, living out of the back of it during that time. Eventually I took over the ownership. Now its my house renovation workhorse. I feel like ill be buried in it.

Dude! I absolutely relate to your love for old Blazers. I still have my '89 K5 sitting in my backyard, with both a blown motor and transmission and now also rusting away from 20 years of sitting, but I DON'T CARE! I still have dreams of bringing it back to life someday and love it more than my current (actually running) truck. It took me 6 months of searching in '95 before I found the right one, and for the time that it was my Daily driver it was a good, faithful truck. With front and rear TrueTrac differentials and 31" mud tires, it was an absolute MONSTER in the snow but about the most dangerous vehicle on earth on ice.

@@MustObeyTheRules ya for sure. Once i bought a jeep where somone had broke off the spring perch bolts in the frame. Instead if drilling and tapping he put threaded rod butted up against it and made some real crappy welds. Thank goodness he never drove it on the road that way, he ended up selling the half finished project to me. They busted off the skidplate bolts too so they just welded the damn thing on.

"I'll do it again". Subscribed. RESTORE this truck. Cab and bed off, complete rebuild from the ground up. The value is in the VIN and the chassis platform. You can fix bad work with enough time and money, and at the end of it when it's done right it's yours and will last for years.

"A" - You've already increased its value in a few hours with the new carb, & also just by you taking possession of it Rich. Fix her up if you have the time(possible frame swap someone suggested could be a great direction to go in if you can find one), and if and when if you get sick of it sell it at that point. I have an 88' R30 dump I've been slowly fixing up, and so I can somewhat relate....

Chevy & GMC produced those generation fullsize light duty pickups from '73 through '87 "only on 1/2 ton & 3/4 ton regular cabs", but the crew cabs like that one there in the video & K5 Blazers like the one your mom had, GMC Jimmys, & Suburbans on the other hand continued up through '91. About the 1 ton regular cabs, they continued up through '89.

that body style with 7.4L was notorious for running hot, I worked at chevy during the early 90s. So the problem was restriction of air flow opening in core-support was too small and the 93 gm diesel 6.5L turbo front bumper had two holes for turbo flow. cheap fix for that truck without cutting structure.
