I think about that all the time. To make an episode here every week along with Roadworthy Rescue and all the shows where he participates and meets with fans every time and all the travel is crazy. Idk where the man finds time to sleep, let alone edit videos. Even the shorter ones take forever. National Treasure fr!

Just to let you know the variety of people who watch and appreciates your videos... I am a 70 y.o. retired automotive engineer who worked at Chevy Engineering during this era and owned a C3 and drove C3's of all varieties and engine types...manual and automatic. I am actually a second generation engineer as my father worked for Chevy Engineering and he brought home all of Chevy's performance cars from the 60's, 70's until he retired. We used to take them out after dinner and open them up. A walk down memory lane and how utterly simple these cars are compared to today. Nobody will be taking a current car and doing what you are doing almost 50 years later like this. Just love your tenacity and knowledge of these old cars. So impressive. I used to do the same as you when young and most cars I had even through engineering school, were hand be downs that didn't run that I put many miles on....all pre-internet. God Bless you sir.

Seeing this comment makes me smile sir! Just so you know, the legacy of carbureted and simple vehicles still lives on with yung'uns (I am 22 now). Last year, I purchased a 1982 Mazda RX7. It's a carbureted rotary engine car, and I would have been lost without knowing how to handle and work on carbs. Simply watching Derek and his videos gave me enough confidence to get into it and learn how they work. That car's now had its engine rebuilt, and the wonky carburetor problems have been fixed! Thanks for sharing your story, I bet Derek appreciates is as much as I do.

Years ago I learned a valuable lesson. I bought a case of Johny Walker and Cola cans and after my first one, I had trouble breathing. I drove myself to the hospital and collapsed at the front doors. They gave me a shot of Adrenalin and got my breathing under control. It turns out that the cans had mouse wee on them that I couldn't taste and the box showed no sign of mice. I have never drank out of a can that I haven't washed ever again because I ended up back in the hospital unresponsive and close to death. I thought a warning would be a good idea at this point. Stay well. From Australia.

I'm 15 My grandfather recently passed away One of the things you left me was a 1968 Chevy Corvette That's been off the road since 1972 when he crashed it he bought all the parts he needed to put it back together he just never did and sat in a garage ever since there's no serious rust on it or anything so I hope to get her back on the road thanks for inspiring me to work on older cars like my grandfather's Corvette. He used to be a pretty prominent street racer in the area

@@C4_Corvette_man its a slim chance vut check along the bumpers and wheelwells for a "hide-a-key" they were lil black metal tins that slid closed and that had a magnet. very popular for hiding spares back in the day, again slim chance but hey, free to look. google the term to give you a good eyeball for what your looking at. if thats a bust your going to have to call a locksmith to unlock the car and re-key the ignition. its not cheap but its not holly hell expensive either, just call around.

Derek, you don't have to drop the tank to get the sender out on most c3 corvettes. You can take the fuel door off, pull the rubber surround out, then unbolt the sender and pull it through the fuel door hole. 78 can be a little puzzle, but once you get it just right, it will come out. Just for future reference since you got lucky on this car. It's 75-77 you have to drop the tank because gm used an oval shape tank unit. 68-74 came up from the bottom of the tank. 78-82 you can sneak out from the top. Also, the fuel pump can be done from underneath without pulling the a/c comp and brackets. Use a long extension with swivels and come in through the fender. Just some tricks I've learned over the past 13 years working on corvettes daily at my job.
@mikemudd1377
@mikemudd1377 3 ай бұрын
Agree on all the above. Not necessary to remove all he did for spark plugs either. I attack those from top, bottom and through the fender with swivel spark plug socket. Also on the fuel pump, small block chevy has provided bolt hole on front of block to hold up the push rod once the cam lobe is at BTC. Remove the short bolt and I use one of the attaching bolts temporarily mounting the pump with one bolt to start with. Don't forget to put the short bolt back in or you'll have an oil leak. Glad GM thought of that when they designed the small block. I'm a retired GM tech with 40 years in the trade. - LOTS of Corvettes, Still work on those. Great video! Thanks Derek!

@@trocheadventures I have a 2003 2 wheel drive S-10 with a massive oil leak that's been driving me nuts, only 98,000 miles on the 4.3 Vortec. Watched many YT videos, but they don't have my leak. I've replaced the valve cover gaskets, intake gasket, O ring on distributor, oil sensor, it is up top rear of engine. At least I got it down to 1 quart oil loss in 5 miles of driving from 3 quarts in 5 miles. Would be a great project for Derek.

Derek I have to say how much I admire your work ethic. My son and I met you in Nashville on the Power Tour, I asked what you did prior to VGG and you were gracious enough to tell me. I can truly understand how rescuing these old cars, trucks, tractors, boats, etc. would be so much more rewarding but brother you really put in the work to do it. As time has passed I can see how your filming and editing skills have improved but your conversational banter with the audience (one sided though it may be) is what puts you a cut above most of the channels out there. Your humor is contagious and I mean that in the best way possible. To the rest of us home mechanics you are very relatable. I am watching you do things that would frustrate me to no end ( I hate brakes and dropping gas tanks as well) many times with just the basic hand tools and you do it without throwing things or hurling profanities. I can allow my grandchildren to watch your videos and not worry about them picking up something I'd rather they didn't. That's golden these days! You invite us along on the journey with you and I swear I can smell the tranny fluid on exhaust, that sweet smell of spewing antifreeze, and who can't relate to the motel clerk as they wrinkle their nose at greasy clothes and the smell of soaked in gasoline the minute you hit the door. I don't know how you mange all the logistics and the schedule you keep but you better believe we appreciate you and the way you involve your family. We also like you Lodge channel as well. Keep up the good work but also, take a non-working vacation once in a while as well. Even rock stars have days they wish they were doing something else! We love you Brother and God bless you and your wonderful family.

The Engineering behing all of this complex but still simple technology in comparison to later models is just that, simple but brilliant and i wonder if an Engineer even put a thought into the possibility that someone could just shut the engine down one day and then, almost 40 years later comes a beautiful, technically very skilled, highly intelligent Sasquatch with his magic power and breathes new life into this beautiful Car! 🤗
