I've lived in Egypt for 20 years and I do street photography, I get paid to do it (worked for a few agencies) and I do not have a media pass or anything like that. In my 20 years, I've had 3 people come up to me and hassle me about the camera, one of them was a cop. I ended up calling the police and they literally arrested him and encourged me to press charges. The photography thing is such bullshit, you all go to some poor neighbourhoods, take videos of people who are clearly struggling, exploit their misery for views, shame them for needing money to feed their families and then complain when the country tries to combat that? In what world is that fair? By law, you are allowed to take photos and videos unless it says otherwise (there are always signs) another exception to that rule is if the person asks you not to use their likeness, then you are legally required to delete or refrain from posting that person. Does Egypt have dirty cops? absolutely but they also have a law and if you play by the rules, you can do whatever you want. Moral of the story is don't come to Egypt, we don't like your people, and we will never respect poverty tourism.
