Hit a nerve when Bob said the Brits wouldn't carry out the casevac because they said it was too hot. As a Brit in Afghanistan we had this problem more than once. Our own helicopters wouldn't pick us up because it was too dangerous so we just ended up calling American birds who never failed to pick us up from wherever we were no matter the danger. So started to love the US pilots

I spent 8 years in the 82nd 1st/504th, I can’t recall the unit but at one point in 07 a British unit in our AO was taking serious IDF and small arms fire after having one of their vehicles disabled by an IED. They had multiple casualties and when we arrived we rolled up in force obviously and our medics immediately started lending a hand to the British docs in anyway they could. I was speaking with one of our medics after we returned to our COP and he said more or less exactly what you said. You guys have gunships and certainly skilled pilots, you think this was an upper echelon command decision?

Probably because the UK can't afford to lose even one helicopter. The Americans have beaucoup money so they don't even blink when one of their helicopters get shot down.

I think it was possibly because of the lack of resources, so losing a helicopter would be a considerable loss to the British Military, whereas the US has much more redundency even though the loss of life would be tragic@@josephfranzen9196

I love the entire dialogue around the analyst woman. You can really see his humanity and heart during this part of the interview. You can tell that any issues she has mentally from that event is forefront in his mind and he feels a bit of responsibility for her. His constant compliments of her performance come across like a father wanting to hug a daughter and tell her everything is okay and I'm proud of you. There's a lot between the words that comes through during this part that reveals this dude's gigantic heart. So he's a badass with no quit in him that also has deep compassion. What a great man.

Love his description about GRS, not saying "yes", but trying to get to "yes", and willing to say "no, but ...". We were taught as Navy Officers that our reply was never to be "no", but instead, present alternative, perhaps better options. All feedback to command should be constructive. That's what Bob is essentially saying. "No" doesn't solve problems. "Yes" doesn't stop idiotic ideas and directives. You're paid to present solutions, not to say "no", or even "yes". In Bob's case, he was steering GRS management to a constructive, viable, and (maybe) life saving solution. Good stuff. - Navy 05/ret.

I've been watching this podcast for months now and all I can say is that this is one of the best interviews you've done Mr. Ryan. It's clear that you did your research and while you maintain excellent rapport with Ninja, you still are self aware enough to maintain pace and make it feel so natural. Ninja is incredible. IMO, he's the funniest dude you've ever had on. This is a leadership episode, hands down and Poras should do that because there are very few people that have his life experience. What I especially appreciate is his humility to state the facts, be critical, humble and not mud sling gives him even more credibility. That Benghazi portion, I was expecting that from one of you and I'm happy to see how it was covered and that it did get political. It was a failure in leadership top down. That's it. Back to you, this is incredible and for what it's worth, it's great to see the journey of you and the platform that you're building. Salute.

I don't subscribe to any "talking heads" on youtube - but this guy, unlike the most popular "talking head" on youtube - does not tell people "not to vaccinate" and does not tell how he "got COVID, and THEN gathered his ENTIRE FAMILY to announce that to them --- and to drive altogether to the nearest pharmacy to buy everything that the people there had" - from which point I understood that that texan talking head (Joe Rogan) - wasn't worth subscribing - or liking. In other words, this guy doesn't seem to be dumb. Thanks for the interview - very decent quality of production and sound. Great interview! I really wish you could do an episode on how the CIA/Pentagon/NATO operators interacted with the heroin trade. From the ethnic Albanians moving it into Scandinavia in the late 90s to the mil planes bringing it into USA hubs like Chicago. We saw troops guarding poppies, but, with Iran Contra as a precedent, the public is not getting any good info about black market revenue streams and how individual operators reacted when they encountered it. Thanks!

This guy is the epitome of the difference between the Army Tier 1, and the Navy. I have worked with both for another entity, and while I am not shit talking my SEAL brethren, that Trident seems to come with extra, extra ego points. I've only ever met a fat handful of Navy cats (over there) that didn't work in their association with DG within the first little bit of time. Again, I am NOT painting all with the same brush, and not NOT denigrating DG, just the attitude of some left a lot to be desired from "quiet professionals." This guy seems like a solid cat, and have heard good things. God bless you and yours Shawn.

Just finished Part 2 of Ninja. Really humble guy. Can't believe he is such a skilled bad ass by the way he comes off. It's like he is the guy from the hardware store helping you out with hose fittings or something. His relaxed personality probably kept him from really bad TBI and PTSD. The level of detail in his story made you feel like you were actually there. Again Shawn great diversity, I loved it.

Bob, did we meet in Kirkuk Iraq? You had Separated bedrooms with a blanket used as a wall in your guy's sleeping quarters. Man, you had enough room for 8 of you guys, that could have fit 100 of us soldiers. Anyways it was a Far North Embassy, I got your pin codes to the door 🔑 by asking for HQ purposes at 1st ID. I was that 6'4" medic that was pounding at your front four for ten minutes saying open up many times or I'll get in physically. Sorry, we needed 100% access to all the bases. FOB/COS Warrior. I was medic over/under the CSM there. I got hell from the marines saying I was looking for door codes to take people. Until my CSM showed up to get the codes by strangling them upside down. Your tent and chew area were fully compliant than that embassy marine barracks. Thanks, bro, if you were that guy. HQ instructed me to get the codes updated on their roster master sheets. The base was termed Mortarittaville. Cool seeing badass guys with civilian clothes on and huge beards sometimes without a week showering to fit in with the local's smells of the shit fest and rotting flesh armpits. You remember us being hit at every police checkpoint, Catholic church bombings down town and targeted ISIS buses. Hey man so weird almost every rocket fin had a message stating made in Iran. Our base was at the Iran border. LOL, there was no border with Iran, Iran owns Iraq today as it did in 2011.

My favorite part was when he told the saw gunner he got that guy. Lol something so heart-warming. Seriously though, this guy's outlook, disposition, and work ethic really highlight what sets specialized operators apart from your run of the mill infantryman. He doesn't let anything bother him. The majority of the guys in the infantry, including myself would pass time by complaining. The most inspirational thing about this gentleman is his mindset.

I've seen many clips from the show from the KZbin shorts section, and was incredibly intrigued about the interview. Mr. Poras's story is incredible. Much of what he talked about, as far as leadership, is the same thing my father talked about from years ago. I've encouraged many folks to watch this both interviews. They really are that good. @Shawn Ryan, thankyou for taking this idea and approach and sharing these stories. I am encouraged. Thankyou for what you are doing.
