I can't say how many reaction channels that I watched by rap fans that do this song, and the look on their face when they realize this is the original source for something that they know already. Some are astonished to learn that the version they enjoyed for years was not from that artist.

I think the piano must be one of the purest musical instruments you can ever learn to play. Bruce Hornsby's skills on it are sublime, I imagine that most people who have heard this song could easily sit and listen to the instrumental version without feeling like they were missing out in a big way.

One of the best Pianists of those times. I dont understand why he was and is so under rated. Bruce Hornsby deserves a lot of accolades. the song alone speaks for itself, The lyrics are powerful and so was his piano playing!

Rappers are well known for sampling other artist's work but Bruce's og version is on a different level entirely with the piano solo and the social commentary of the song is still (sadly) as relevant today as it was 38 yrs ago when this song was released. Bruce also has a great sense of humour, as I have seen him on a clip in concert announce that the next song he is going to play is by Tupac!

Bruce Hornsby is a GREAT Human Being. Seen him many, many times with his band, The Range, and also when he opened for, and later played with the Grateful Dead. He is a native of Williamsburg, Va., and an alum of William and Mary College, so he is also very wise to the ways of the world, and talented. And he is my favorite person in Rock and Roll.

Great …. Bruce Hornsby co-wrote a tremendous song called End of the Innocence with Don Henley of the Eagles…. It was the title song of a great album by Don Henley in his solo career and was also a hit single for Don - I recommend that song for you

The piano riff was in my mind for years, but I didn't know who it was until someone reacted to it. It was good to finally hear it again, especially when I read the lyrics. In 2Pac's song "Changes," he samples this song. I read a bit about it after the reaction I mentioned, and apparently, Bruce Hornsby, thought it was well done.

You need to remember that rappers are NOT musicians, most of them know nothing about music, they just sample something and they rap because they can’t sing either.

Yeah, they just to mumble to some riduclously deep drum beat. Rap makes me feel angry for some reason.
@monchorga3 ай бұрын
@andreshernandez1180 that's the same thing I say word for word regarding rappers. They take a real musician and song writer's songs and rip them off, then make money off of someone else's creativity. Don't acknowledge or give the original artist credit for the songs they wrote and performed. Misleading the younger generation into believing the song was their creation. When they hear the song by the original artists, they seem to be in shock that it was a copy from a real musician, playing real musical instruments. I love the way Bruce plays the piano, I could listen to him play all day. Great song, I remember hearing it for the first time when it was released.

In truth, when you hear the song for the first time, even Tupac's (ripped off) version, why would you think a black rapper wrote that? It is so untypical, say, for a certain group of musicians, it is uncanny.
