Was wondering about the palm nailer! Thx. Watching from Ontario Canada 😊🎉

Carpenter & Joiner for 37yrs here in the UK. I got a palm nailer about 8 to 10 years ago for £30 & it is without a doubt the best £30 tool I have ever bought. I use it pretty much just for joist hangers with loose twist nails as loads of builders are too tight to pay for collated twist nails & every single person who sees me use it is absolutely amazed by it. I also bought the Bostitch Strapshot nailer last year for £200 & it paid for itself on the first job. Also you can nail hangers in places you juts cannot with a hammer & best of all NO smashed fingers & dropped nails.

These palm nailers are a waste of money for anyone that never bought one..... Once you do buy one you suddenly find a lot of used of them. Its not an every day tool, but it suddenly is a needed tool.

I bought a Palm Nailer too (somewhat reluctantly) a year ago and I absolutely LOVE it. It's perfect for jobs like strapping and joist hangers but I use it more than a hammer now.

i could be wrong but, based on him using tension brace and how small that cavity is, it with be steel battens and hebel (CAN be craned in and screwed from the back of the batten if it needs to be) making sure the paper will be compliant is probably the only difficult part

Thanks for the great video Dave. I had purchased a certain red battery powered palm nailer to modify for some auto body work. Have not tried it for timber work yet. The pneumatic one looks like a time saver as well.

That palm nailer is going to be useful in a lot of tight spaces 👌 especially when using hangers 💯

If I ever decide to build a house. You'll be doing the framing etc. You actually care. And do things to code. Even fixing others mistakes. And your own some times. It's hard to find people that care about what they do these days. I applaud you. Keep it up mate :)

Hey mate, not sure if you do this or not but could help! - on stick frames I was taught to write absolutely everything of importance on the ground in crayon after flicking out , I rarely have to refer back to the plans that way and as you’re framing the walls you can read everything as a reminder 👌🏻
@ianedwards91367 ай бұрын
Mate no one is perfect and it shows the reality of the construction game, You are running the job, multiple guys, rushing a tad i think and filming so shit will go wrong don't feel to bad is no reflection on your work or abilities as a tradesman. I feel and it is just my opinion, a half hour to go double check would of saved you more time, but hey this world would be boring if everything run smooth. Got to ask how the hell did they get planning permission to have that building so close to boundary line, going to be a challenge cladding some of those exterior walls.
@carlogarcia-prieto39486 ай бұрын
In those tighter areas, once you have started the nail, you can hold a block on the brickwork and use the claw of your hammer to lever the nail in

I’ve spent a lot of time awkwardly hand nailing joists hangers like that, never got to the point where it’ll be worth going out and getting the palm nailer tho, so glad I had a good enough reason to get it today
@matthewuzulis50166 ай бұрын
Palm nailers are one of those tools you need to carefully consider. No it generally is not "needed" as there are other ways to do the same thing, it also requires a compressor on hand. Now if you do have a compressor and have situations that do pop up frequently where it can do the job the time it saves is well worth it, let alone not having to deal with the agitation of other methods. It's not a tool I would recommend to a DIY handyman, but to professionals the cost is quite negligible for what it provides in return.
@SingleTrack666 ай бұрын
No tension in the straps. You need to pull the strap tight with a nail and a hammer, then nail it with another nail and hammer. Sounds hard but if you can lever off of something it’s actually quite easy to do on your own.
