I told my stepkids to take a hike. My wife has two kids from her previous marriage: a daughter and a son who are now 23 and 22. From the beginning, her children made it clear. They didn't accept our relationship. I respected their feelings, not trying to replace their father but offering friendship if they ever wanted it. Over the years, my attempts to connect were met with disrespect. My wife was sad but understood my decision and respected her children's choices. I own a successful company and recently received a lucrative buyout offer. After discussing it with my wife, I decided to sell and retire, planning to enjoy life with trips and cruises. When my stepchildren learned about the sale, they expressed expectations of inheriting a significant portion and funding for an expensive destination wedding. This stuff surprised me, and I frankly told them they wouldn't inherit anything from me. I plan to spend half and leave the rest to my wife and charity. They freaked out, they insulted me, wished me the worst. I told them to get the heck out of my house. My wife thinks I've gone too far. Currently, she's not speaking to me. I don't believe I've done anything wrong. Am I the a-hole here?
