This Brentford game is on Pep and his friends Gundo, Bernardo and Nunes. Pep is aware that, Savinho can’t defend and you will require a good CDM to interrupt play from opponents coming from Gvardiol’s side. Kova was covering for Savinho a lot and after his replacement, Brentford started attacking from that end. Both goals came from Gvardiol’s side. Pep shouldn’t allow Bernardo to play 90+ O’Reilly is more than capable to take over now.

Somehow, instead of questioning Pep's favoritism to Gundo and Bernardo who's never criticized despite becoming useless defensively and offensively, some people are scapegoating Nunes. The guy made the right side strong, no goals or serious threats came from that side, and made attacking contributions. What I see as a problem is that McAtte should be playing in place of Silva, and O'Reilly should be playing before Gundo and probably Kova but Pep has decided to stick to these old darlings of his.

Most important to remember: we can't win the Prem every single year. We need a down year to recalibrate. I still think we will make top 4 - that is the goal. As for today - simple answer here folks. Didn't take our chances. We should've had 4 goals EASILY. Offensively there is better creation, just not enough clinical finishing. Ake put his life on the line again at the back. Remember, this could have EASILY been 4-2 to Brentford. Last ditch clearance on an open goal chance and a header off the line from Ake kept them at bay. But as good as Ake is, he isn't a big enough presence against big teams like Brentford on corners. First goal he missed the header and then turned to the line judge instead of diving into a tackle. Second goal they had 7 players in the box taller than us. We DEF need Ruben back. Either Ruben with Stones, or Ruben with Manu at CB. Ruben is the leader that organizes the defense. With him there we would've held the lead. Bringing on Gundo was terrible but he's trying to manage Kova's time. We don't have the energizer bunny (Rodri) to cover all areas for 90mins every game.

Without a proper ready made DM, not a chance we make top 4 as long as Pep continues with this defensive setup. We are averaging nearly 2 goals conceded per game (over the last 17 games) and so would need to score at least 3/game to ensure wins. Doku is chaotic and takes risks. Gundogan is supposed to offer control in possession. City won the titles they did under Pep by defending with the ball, not behind it. The squad could've never done what they did otherwise. Not with attacking midfielders like KDB, David Silva and Bernardo playing as #8s. When you're 2-0 up with ~15 minutes to go and have a small and injured squad, last thing you want to do is make the game more end-to-end by bringing in Doku.
