My brother-in-law had a load of sand/dirt brought in for his driveway. My nephew was picking out the echinoids! I already owe them a bag of rocks...everytime I visit I pick up a handful of rocks from their walkway to the house! PS. The debate is moot! Long hair it is!

I recently visited Sanibel Island, FL. for the first time and absolutely freaked out when we stopped at the beach area after getting off the causeway. Why, you may ask?! Because I found fossilized shells as soon as I stepped on the beach! Apparently, they use the shell pits to shore up the beach areas after the causeway, too. I got the tell my family all about what I’ve learned from my KZbin friends WILDKYLE and PaleoCris. So many amazing fossilized shells. Thanks for being such a great and enthusiastic teacher. 🐚
@WILDKYLE3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like so much fun Sarah! Thanks for sharing that with me, and I'm happy to hear you've been able to learn from us. Keep on looking!
@lorihanlon25253 жыл бұрын
I was just at Sanibel Island the end of July! Was slightly disappointed, the shelling was not as good as the other times I have gone. But I understand its a tide thing and there were tons of people...so it got picked over fast @ Lighthouse Beach.
@sarahsullivan26103 жыл бұрын
It was my first time ever visiting there! I had the best luck after a storm rolled in after my 2nd day there. The day before we left I went to Captiva and there was tons of shells. I had never seen a live sand dollar or starfish and there were tons at the beach I was at in Sanibel. I really look forward to going back.

I love the fact that I am not the only person taking sparkly flint home. I am very curious about dating of the rock/clay you are exploring. Looks remarkably like weathered chalk which is dated at 100m years on this side of the pond. Is that what remains after some younger, shallow sea ?

Where in Florida? If you can elaborate I've noticed many of the trees bring up fossils around their roots. And all the little dry washes contain fossils. So perhaps the answer is they are found everywhere?
