The video seems to show people in their 60s and 70s not people in their 40s. I’m 43 and I throw the age curve on most longer sailings that I’ve done. Anything longer than 7 days brings a retirement crowd. I try to only sail on 7+ night cruises unless I’m in need of a quick getaway.

Me and my wife went on the Celebrity Edge when ships were allowed to sail again due to the pandemic. There was only about 1200 to 1400 people onboard. I was 52 and my wife was 47 at the time. But we ended up having a blast hanging out with the older crowd lol. We ended up making friends with several couples that loved to stay up and party. One in particular was this couple where the guy was 62 years old and his wife was 74 but look like she was 60. She was so much fun! They even want us to come to DC to visit them to hang out. What me and my wife liked about the atmosphere with Celebrity was the fact that we could just relax without a whole bunch of kids running around and taking up the pools lol. So we have decided when we just want to relax but still enjoy a cruise we are going with Celebrity. So we have one booked with them for 2024.

There is a cruise line to meet all people’s tastes . Celebrity has been a good fit for my wife and I . When kids were on board with us , Royal was the cruise line of choice.. Now it’s time to try a smaller ship experience.

I'm going on Celebrity for the first time next year (Celebrity Beyond) and I'm really excited about it. I've tried two inside rooms thinking that just getting on the ship was good enough, but it just isn't the same. When I cruise, part of the allure of cruising for me is communing with the ocean, which I do throughout the day from my balcony or ocean view window. It's just disappointing for me when I can't see the ocean from my stateroom while I'm relaxing in there. Some time in the middle of the night if I wake up, I go out to the balcony to look at the stars and if I'm lucky there's a shooting star. I love the sound, the sun sparkling off the water like jewels, and the sun shine lighting up my cabin throughout the day. It's part of what makes cruising special to me. I enjoyed watching this video. Thank you.

Once you do a balcony, it's very difficult to book an inside knowing what you will be missing. I have never done a full inside, but I have done a picture window, as they call it. Our 2nd cruise (well, our 2nd together was like #6 for my hubby, lol). we booked a balcony and have only done balconies since. I would be very sad without the sound of the sea at night!

This Beyond and Edge ship have a major shortcoming in terms of a place to view the ocean. Sure, you could go on the deck. But the Solstice and Millennium and other prior Celebrity ships had the Sky Lounge or some sort of lounge that was huge with big windows for viewing the ocean and loungers and stuff. That's gone in this ship. You can view it aft. But fore is a different experience than aft. They also did something odd with the balcony cabins and made them like a huge window that warms up the staterooms.

@@Ariadne147 I've heard the same thing. That it's like big window and you don't feel like you're outside. The Edge class is a very chic product but it lacks the social mingle and lounge areas inside the ship of previous Celebrity ships or in comparison to Princess and HAL which are also premium. I love the art aboard Celebrity ships. The service style is attentive and usually the food is quite good if not to the standards they set in the early 1990s. But I doubt most lines have maintained their standards either. Celebrity, however, has upped the showroom and general entertainment by quite a lot.

Was on Ascent last week, Apex this time last year. I loved it. But I was in need of a relaxing “resort” vibe. However, friends who sailed with me on Virgin a couple of weeks prior would have felt the same as you wanting more night life and turn-up vibes. Also loved the infinite veranda.

2023 I went on 3 celebrity cruises. Solstice edge and eclipse It was great. The food and service was head and shoulders above the other cruise line. Thank God no drama. It is an older crowd. They can party with the youngster. Thank you for your video. I hope to meet you on celebrity.

I returned last week from sailing the Celebrity Eclipse. I had previously sailed the Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas two months ago. It was a big difference. Harmony was full of young people, while the Eclipse had a larger number of older clientele celebrating their wedding anniversaries. The Eclipse is a lot more serious ship with no slides. Both cruises were great experiences though.

Now, the price? ~$2,400 double occupancy for the Deluxe Inside. Especially on an "inaugural" I think that's pretty good. October, RCL Navigator mini-suite LA return, 7 nights was ~$4,200 for me. AND? Gotta say, the food was consistently sub-par even specialty. (Chops and Jamie's Italian). Plus, the Navigator's staterooms are overdue for an upgrade.

Hi Jay. My wife and I were on the initial 4-night cruise on the Ascent and I can definitely confirm that we DID NOT get free specialty restaurants or drinks. We are not influencers or travel agents…just frequent cruisers who are also Elite Plus on Celebrity. We had a wonderful time and nearly everything was perfect.

Just came back off of the Celebrity Reflection... It was my first time cruising Celebrity. Boarding, like you stated was a breeze! 2 Things I loved about that sailing 1) They allow you to access your room IMMEDIATELY upon boarding. 2) I don't think I saw a "photographer" even ONE time on board, during the whole cruise. They were there at the ports, but they were not NEARLY as aggressive as they are on Carnival and even Royal cruises. Usually, you have to swat them away like flies!

You need to realize that school is in session. Few families will cruise while the kids are I school. The cruises during Christmas break will likely have more kids.

Need to get videos of the Carnival Venezia dec 10 -18 lost power in the storm in the triangle. Plus, other ships turned around after leaving Nassau not ours and was really rough seas. People stuck in the elevator crazy

I definitely think there are some kinks that need to be worked out but I will be on this ship in March and am hoping it gets better. I am disappointed for you that your experience was less than it should have been. I am hoping you give celebrity another try after the ship has had some time to acclimate :-). I have only cruised once and that was last year on the Reflection for a family reunion . This March we are all going on the Celebrity Apex. I would be really upset if I had to make a choice between the adult comedy and the theater show. That's the dumbest plan I have ever heard.

The wife and I have cruised on all 3 of the Edge class ships prior to the Ascent. Just got off of the Celebrity Eclipses last week. Diamond Plus with Royal but Celebrity is just a cut above, service, food, clearly better.

The Eclipse is either standard Celebrity or old Celebrity. It depends on where Celebrity goes with the class after the Edge class. One more Edge class then it's done. My hope is they bring back a lot of what they deleted in the Solstice class. And bring back the designs/designers of the Solstice class but of course with brand new modern designs for their next class. Celebrity can drop the ball in terms of food sometimes. Usually, they're a cut above but not always.

We went on the Ascent Dec. 17-24 with our 2 kids (20 & 22) and found the demographic and night life to be very different than your experience. The night clubs were packed and our kids had a fantastic time with many people in their 20's and 30's on board. They partied late into the night. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. Biggest complaint was that the Eden shows were fantastic but the venue is too small with lines of sight issues.

We took the first cruise (not the inaugural cruise) on Celebrity Edge, the first ship in the Edge series, and it was the same 3 day and 4 day cruises the week before the Inaugural cruise. Sounds like the same setup for this cruise. We’re not press, travel agents or influencers. Paid full price which was well worth it for a quick getaway on a great new ship. Not sure why the crew were surprised…. We like the quiet, relaxing cruises…sometimes. But we have gotten spoiled with rock charter cruises. Almost 24 hours of rock music so not relaxing but a blast. And we get a small charitable deduction for Rock Legends which is sponsored by a charity for Native Americans.

Hey J, fancy seeing you back on KZbin. I didn’t realize that the ship was at half capacity because it seemed crowded almost everywhere all the time to me. I’m quite shocked by this information. I too thought the food was superb, although we only ate specialty dining so I can’t compare to main dining. The only real issue I had with the older demographic was that man who thought it was ok to put his bum in my face at Eden. Other than that I enjoyed chatting with the older folks at afternoon tea and on the deck.

Good job, Jay. We went in our first Celebrity cruise this past February in the Millennium. I found the ship nice, but overall it was boring. I didn’t remember any ship experience because it was not memorable. The food was just so-so. We see some of the youngest and our group of 4 is 58-69. We love Carnival because you can have everything from fun to down time.

Of course Celebrity is going to be boring if you like Carnival. Try RCL or NCL. Celebrity is not known for activities. There are some but nothing all that creative.

You pretty much described everything we love about Celebrity. Relaxing, excellent food and service, no wild parties and loud music. We cruise to relax, to experience new places, cultures, food, etc. Overlapping shows do not bother us as we always cruise B2B being West coast Canadians , it makes more sense for us due to all the traveling time. So if we do not see a show on one sailing, we see it on the next one. We have never been bored on a cruise, there is always something to do , even sea days can be as fun as one makes them. Perhaps with age you will appreciate the atmosphere on Celebrity better. Cheers 👍

Celebrity loyalist here. I actually saw some people in your video I know from cruising Celebrity who are even bigger fans than I am and are often either brought back on because of their blue chip rewards program, or regularly pre buy all inclusive packages (concierge class, aqua class or retreat) at a deep discount on-ship months or years ahead. I noticed on your last video that there was definitely a lot less on board than I'd expect. So definitely, the plan to split things up didn't work for their bottom line. Entertainment wise, I haven't been on an inaugural cruise with them. But every time I have, I have always been able to catch a show on board because they definitely did have multiple showings. I wonder if there is some sort of budget change going on. I happen to know some workers, and they are not happy with some recent changes Royal has made in the financial area, making the difficult job they have even harder. But even with all that, the first few cruises are probably always going to be a risk for it to not be 100% quiet yet. There are a lot of not being able to know what no one knows yet until you come to the quirk or bug in the system to fix it. I'd really be interested in seeing you maybe give this particular ship a try again in a year to compare to and see if it is better or got worse.

Customer service, facilities, staff are wonderful on Celebrity. No complaints, all clean thry cleaned our cabins daily. Only complaint was the entertainment sucked snd catered to seniors or tyler swift kinda people. #CelebritySummit. Check was flawless even checked in early no hassles

I recommend your vlogs to people who think cruising for this reason, part of the research they should do before selecting a cruise. Nothings more irritating than someone who loves a busy nightlife saying how boring a cruise on Celebrity is at night or how edgy Virgin Voyage cruises are for more reserved people. Really? They’d know that if they watched your videos before selecting.

Hi J you mentioned the low number of passengers and yes, booze cruises do tend to keep people away but in fact, are the stories we are being told about the ships being full just a load of rubbish I ask this as many KZbin videos lately taken by passengers (and yes I know many are taken early morning when not many passengers about) but others with performer/musicians playing to empty or near empty lounges. I am getting inundated with cruise offers many times each day from cruise lines, travel agents etc and I tend not to believe that ships are not sailing at anywhere near their full capacity. Of course if what I say has a semblance of truth the cruise lines would never admit it.

I took the Celebrity Beyond Transatlatic and the average age was 70. Celebrity is very expensive now. They really cater to people who are retired and want to be away from screaming children. There is a ship within a ship with AquaClass and the Retreat.

We were on a 9-night sailing on the Beyond over the Thanksgiving break. We're young(er), but quite enjoy the relatively low-key/relaxed atmosphere of Celebrity. Like you, however, I think I was frustrated that Ascent had those "preview" sailings before the inaugural. One, the first preview sailing sailed the same day as the Beyond, so we had to use terminal 18 (naturally, the newer vessel would get the newer terminal), and two, we booked the Beyond on this date because we knew it'd be one of the last opportunities to sail it while it was the newest ship. We're booked for the "inaugural" sailing for the Xcel in 2025. I'll be pissed if Celebrity decides to cruise it (with passengers) before the actual inaugural sailing on 11/18/2025.

One of the things that makes these cruise lines think that they’re inaugural or first sailings are nothing but cash grab inflated prices and you get nothing in return or at least different anyways.. if you’re charging top dollar for the first cruise, everything better be ready. Just like Royal Caribbean on the wonder of the seas. A lot of the stuff including the shows was not ready. But yet these cruise lines charge top dollar as if you’re getting something spectacular on your cruise. it’s the cruises after yours that truly gets the bargain. It looks like the loyal celebrity people with the ship capacity of 2000 picked up on this and left. Damn talk about a missed opportunity.

I agree.......disappointing for us as well and the nickel and diming was very excessive. Seafood restaurant was NOT worth the money !
