I have just followed a Scot: Steve Marsh as a single passenger on this Ferry. And I found the Ferry Harbour on Iceland on Google Maps! It is very small, with only a few roads, except the one out.

Yeah, the ferry arrives in this little port in Seydisfjördur. It's located on the East of Iceland; I then had to drive across the whole country in one day to meet my friends in Reykjavik.

NO problems to cross borders, when you are pale skin, with blue eyes, and come from a Eu country.. - I noticed that my self.

I can't help but agree on that.

we sailed that route for over 1000 years, the old viking seaway

Just imagine them sailing this route in primitive wooden boats. Crazy how brave people were.

Thanks for posting, interesting. What time of year was that ? Looks like autumn ? I’m doing the same in two weeks. Was there onboard wifi? I read somewhere that you can buy a pass. Prices high, if from Iceland it probably seems ok.

Hi, this was actually this year in July, so quite recent. Yes, there was Wifi available but I didn't buy any; some people I talked to said that it works pretty slow most of the time. The ferry fare for the car was 870€ (without the cabins and any food), so yes, pretty expensive but in our case it was divided by four so it wasn't all too bad.

The lack of controls is not just due to Schengen, Iceland is a part of the Nordic Passport Union, which predated Schengen and opened borders between the Nordic nations. Denmark and Iceland have a long history of open borders, hell go far enough back and Iceland was a part of Denmark. Like Schengen they only do spot controls unless they have reasons to close borders further for a reason. Nordic citizens basically have access to additional rights in other Nordic nations above those granted by Schengen or the free movement of peoples under EU law.

Also, drawing attention to border checks or lack thereof is not really helpful. 😳😉
