My opinion on the Kia vs Toyota. Why doesn't Toyota add all the bells and whistles because they are dedicated to the engine and other car parts? Kia is all about the bells and whistles and doesn't provide any other parts on the car, especially the engine bay. The warrenty difference can talk itself. I am all Toyota, especially Highlander and 4Runner, in my opinion. No judgment.

But the Kia has a 10 yr 100k warranty which is better than what Toyota offers. But you'll end up using the warranty on the Kia, you probably won't ever use it on the Toyota lol

@@racequad9 Get Kia car if you plan on selling before 100k miles. Toyota if babied can keep till 300k+ miles. Choose your posion. Really depends on your usage for the car. Honestly a 10yr old Toyota with 100k miles still might be worth similar or slightly less than a 4yr old Kia with 100k miles. If you're used to leasing cars & want to finanace something then go Kia & upgrade every 85k miles, haha!

Toyota doesn’t add the bells and whistles because they are arrogant and cheap. They have the attitude of “you’ll buy our car anyway because of our name, even if it’s stripped down and the value is terrible”. Except that isn’t true anymore and hasn’t been for years. Toyota, like Honda has just as many issues as other manufacturers these days. Built quality, recalls, etc. I mean, look at your CTR’s a/c Cam. Kia meanwhile is in the top 5 of initial quality. You get reliability AND the bells and whistles. I’ve had 5 (1 at a time) Hyundai/Kia cars in the garage since 2006. They keep getting better and the current 2021 is amazing. Zero issues.

I also understand who I'm showing this video to: mostly Honda owners, so I expect what I'm seeing in the comments. But having said that, I will do a deep dive into the reliability of the Telluride and maybe we will go test drive a grand highlander and a Highlander XSE this week. Oh, and yea theres nothing I could possibly do to convince Vivian into a CR-V, Rav-4 or Pilot

FL5 owner chiming in here. My wife and I were in a similar situation earlier this year and looked at Highlanders/CR-Vs/Rav4s. We ended up with a Mazda CX-50 Premium Turbo. It has the power/torque and a standard 6-speed transmission no CVT (reliability). It also has amazing steering feel for an SUV (baby Porsche Macan) and even a panoramic moonroof. One of the biggest things for us is that it is unique you don't see many of them on the road and they are wide. It is also priced very competitively at 38k. I would highly recommend taking one out for a test drive. Side note although Hyundai/Kia has amazing warranty remember everyone has that and if something goes wrong you could be waiting months for parts and sometime without a loaner vehicle. I would consider the after sale experience into your purchase decision.

Hey Cam, Jeep technician here. Head gaskets are very common on the 3.6 engines. $3000 for the job just for the head gasket is insane. I hope the cylinder head or heads are getting replaced. You can always do a combustion test where the radiator cap sits to confirm for a blown head gasket. Make sure there’s new water pump gasket, timing cover gasket. People can easily mess up on timing fyi

Heard the 11-19 Kia's sucked. Now, they're better built & I'd stay away from anything turbo'ed on Kia. Those aren't optimized too well like a Honda from 2020+. I wouldn't bat an eye getting a Narutally Aspirated Kia Forte for cheap then selling before 100k miles. All depends on usage if you getting car cheap to tack on miles quick & want warranty free then get that Kia & sell. Get Toyota if you want car for 7+yrs or 200k+ miles , so long as you baby her

It’s unfortunate that you guys had issues. That’s a giant pain in the butt. However, all manufacturers have one off problem cars. That’s definitely not a trend with Kia. Warranty wise, that’s all in the dealer and the one by Cam is great. To add, their turbo motors are excellent. The only thing of theirs I’d avoid is the 7 speed dual clutch trans. Which the Telluride does not have.

@@typesredline Could be correct about turbo. I just have a stickma aginst them due to the car life span not being as long as Naturally aspirated. People forget you need to properly warm & cool down an engine with turbo, espically in winter. MY thing is, people sell them when the car's already burning oil or engine runing rough & give bad experience to others about turbo engine's.

@@dbzownz12345agreed. Over time that stigma will go away. The brand has really only been producing quality since 2008. Before that it was still sus. So they are very young reputation wise. For the turbo, they build in a “timer” of sorts. When it’s really hot out, the fan will stay on for a good minute after the car is off. It ramps up and is pretty loud too.

My dad has a 23 rav4 XSE hybrid and we went to Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area. I drove the rav4 and he drove his F150 both with passengers. We went again the next year but I drove my type r and all my passengers as well as I agreed that my type r was more comfortable from the seats to the suspension.

My dad drove the Highlander and thought it lack alot of features. Then drove the Hyundai Palisade XRT AWD and brought it the same day. Just a simple 3.8L and 8 speed auto.

I rented a 23 Highlander Limited for a trip from Chicago to Denver Colorado and back. It was awesome. I had my whole family in there and suitcases for a week. It had the turbo engine and was more than enough for the highway and higher elevation when we reached Colorado. I loved it and when my wife lease is up on her Honda hrv we hope to pick one up. It’s a great family car and very comfortable. Telluride has the wow factor and is packaged to sell you on the spot, but after hearing all the blown engines, I would never want to get a Kia for reliability.

Is it the 3.8 v6 that has issues?

The funniest thing happened. I didn’t finish this video yesterday so I was playing it on my way to work and we both ripped our same BRZ’s at the same time 😂 When you were like WOOOOOOO!!! I had the same feeling 🤣🤣🤣 Then your back and forth with each other had me rolling! The Toyota Vs. Kia thing. Kia HAS to throw all the bells and whistles at you or you won’t buy. Toyota knows they don’t have to. Even with such a long warranty, I’ve had 2 people in my family have paint issues and cracked intake manifold with their Kia. The paint is somehow not being taken care of by Kia within warranty. The paint peeling off my cousins car in all sorts of places is so wild to me. Hopefully that is corrected across the brand from cars built within the last 6 years. These were on sedans and not SUV’s though. Maybe build quality is better on the big SUV’s? Like others have mentioned, if you’re getting out of the car before a certain time be prepared to lose more money on Kia Vs Toyota. The new car smell, long warranty and strong features on the Kia are going to be hard to shake. Especially the ball cooling feature 😂 Godspeed dude 🫡😂

Never been an SUV guy but I do think Kia did a particularly nice job with the Telluride styling. No Kia experience either but a buddy at the gym loves his new K5 GT Line.

My wife and I picked up a 19 Highlander with the v6. We are a family of three with our 2 year old daughter (now) and have not looked back. No issues and have enjoyed the space for the car seat. We also like that the doors open a full 90 degrees out for getting our daughter in and out. The window that opens in the back has proven more useful then I thought but my understanding is that was removed for new models. We don’t get the best gas mileage though. I’m local (Tampa) if you guys ever wanted to check this model out. Good luck car shopping! Also have a 15 4Runner that has proven to be bullet proof. Started with a 05 Corolla fresh of the lot that we got to 365k miles before someone rear ended us in front of the bucs stadium. That thing was amazing!

I'd say it looks like mama wants a Telluride, I would just do it. If you end up having issues down the road, trade it in on a Highlander! haha Life's too short, so get want you want and like, and have fun!

Don’t even bother paying the $3000 to fix the head gasket if you’re just gonna get rid of it, just trade it in and don’t mention it to the dealer lol.

Cam - you need to checkout the Ray Ban Meta sunnies for recording while driving. The video quality is actually really good. It would be so much better than wearing that camera hat thingy.

I forgot to mention. The CX-50 and new inline 6 CX-90 looks pretty nice too. One of our friends got a CX-50 and loves it. It’s much smaller than a telluride or highlander though if you care about that.

I don't like the current Highlander, but the new Grand Highlander is nice! If your ok with spending a little more I would go that route. My mom drives a Kia and its not smooth which I dislike, but at least she hasn't had any problems with it yet for now.

Trade the jeep in don’t dump money into it if you’re ultimately getting rid of it, trade it and don’t mention a thing once the papers is signed it’s the dealership problem here In New York most dealership don’t really test out cars that are traded in because they will put money into it anyways.

Kia offers that warranty because you are going to need it. Is it worth the inconvenience will be the question. Have you guys looked at the Acura MDX ? I have a 23 and it’s quite a good ride.
