I was told by a diesel mechanic to always leave the exhaust brake on. It is supposed to help keep the vgt turbo system working properly. And always use it to quickly warm it up in cold temps. Try it!

That's a nice highway trailer. Keep it on smooth roads and you won't have any problems. Aluminum trailers don't like heavy loads on rough terrain. I repaired heavy use aluminum trailers for years. When used properly they are very nice.

Just a little FYI always run your exhaust break no matter what brand truck you drive. Due to soot build up in the veins, even if your just running empty run it.

Another good one Andre. I lived in Littlefun until 2016, my 6.7 took about 35k to really break in. 17mpg until then, 18.7 after 35k. Remember, CO diesel is trash, low cetane because of altitude and foamy as hell in winter because of blend. You will see a bump of 1mpg in summer when they switch over. Other than that, thanks for this, traffic still stupid as ever, looks like that extra lane was completely worthless! Also, change that tranny fluid regularly and get a brace, 68s are known to crack under load. Laughed at 60mph over Ike, we used to call it the Alpine Autobahn

Using the exhaust brake any time you drive the truck whether towing or not will extend the life of the turbo. It keeps the turbo vanes moving, and helps prevent soot from building up and jamming them up which eventually burns out the actuator.

Run the exhaust brake all the time. Even though some people have concerns, it does little to no harm to the engine, but it'll save your turbo and extended the life of your brakes massively. It's also easier to drive the truck, basically 1 foot driving much of the time, like an EV.

@@jesustrevizo3148 The turbo has a sliding nozzle ring that controls the flow of exhaust gasses. This nozzle not only works to reduce turbo lag, it also works as the exhaust brake by restricting exhaust gasses, creating the back pressure that's used to slow the engine down. If you don't use the exhaust brake regularly, the little parts of this nozzle begin to carbon up, which can jam the nozzle. This can destroy the turbo, or parts of the turbo. So, it should just be run all the time.

Getting over 20mpg in my 5.9 consistently. Averaging about 16mpg pulling a 19 foot camper with a atv in the back of the truck. Can't go wrong with cummins. Best investment working from Arkansas to Utah I've made.

What diesel additives do you use? If you're not, you should be. You have a CP4 fuel pump. You really need an additive. Our diesel in America lacks lubricant required for a CP4. You can use Power Service Diesel Kleen which is made for Cummins engines. I now use Opti-Lube XPD in my diesel. Just some friendly advice from one diesel operator to another.

I own a 2022 Ram 2500 Big horn . With the 6.4L hemi /4:10 gears. I absolutely love it so far . I pull goosenecks alot. Actually just pulled 15k this past weekend. Definitely knew it was back there but did great. I normally get 10.5 mpg pulling weights around 10k . Normally get a out 14mpg back and forth to work. That's all on 35" tires.

My father towed a show car with his Ram 5.9 Cummins & he averaged 19 mpg whether the trailer was attacked or not - very consistent. The down side of that was that the 5.9 had a lot less HP & torque vs. the 6.7. Very impressive👍

I recommend to TFL along time ago aluminum with torflex axles. You will never go back to steel with leafs. Those trailers pull like dream after steel…

I’m a Ford guy, but I sure like the new Ram you fellas bought! Just enough options and the Cummins is hard to beat. Ford has had their issues on the different PowerStrokes they have had. The current model is really starting to do very well, but if I needed/wanted a HD diesel truck in the future, it would be a toss up between the Ram Cummins or the Ford SuperDuty. I really like the new trailer!! It’s definitely one to envy if it is what you need. Hard to beat an aluminum trailer, especially when you are not working it over its design capacity. Very nice trailer for sure!! The lower height, deck lights, easy off fenders, low jacks, swivel tie downs, 5 year warranty, 2000 lbs for a 20 ft+ trailer?? Hahaha. Nice product. A bit expensive, but few would regret the extra cost. Nice product. That’s very similar to MY F150 Tremor!! Hahaha. Mine is Antimatter Blue. I definitely like the truck so far. It’s been perfectly reliable over the first 3 days of ownership!!! Hahaha. I have no concerns. Heh heh.

I just picked up my new ‘22 Chevy 2500 Duramax yesterday. On the 500 mile drive back, I was actually at about 20mpg, which was really nice. These new diesels really get some good mileage.

something you missed here guys... ALWAYS use the exhaust brake, ALWAYS!!!!! Even when unloaded and especially if your emmisions are still installed. The variable vains in there WILL freeze up with the added carbon. PLus the break is always appreciated.

I always have the exhaust break on auto to save the truck breaks. If I have a heavy load/mountain pass I will run a full exhaust break. If you have the tool why not use it and it sounds great.

If you read the owners manual (I just got a Ram 2500 HD) it does not require a break-in if it's unladen. However, it recommends that you don't tow for 500 miles, then you can tow for another 500 miles at reduced speed of 50mph. Then you can tow at HWY speeds at 1000 miles.

My deleted and straight piped 07.5 2500 6.7 will do like 600 miles on the highway at 85mph. It’s amazing that something that old still gets significantly better gas mileage than the model that is 15 years newer due to “environmental regulations”.

I wonder what the overall cost of owning the cummins vs the hemi is when you factor in mpg savings on cummins vs cost of the powerplant (10k extra over hemi) , added cost of diesel, and added maintenance costs? How many miles/years would you have to drive it before you realized a cost benefit? I’m about to buy a new 2500 in California and can’t decide between the two. I don’t tow heavy a lot so main interest in cummins is mpg, power and engine longevity

There is no savings it's only more expensive. The overall long-term cost of the engine itself the much more expensive maintenance much more expensive repairs just isn't worth it these days for diesels unless you absolutely need it to tow super heavy. Having a check engine light for some stupid diesel exhaust filter sensor every couple thousand miles just isn't worth it.

Briar, as a trucker I can tell you that diesels are good for only one thing: Towing. Towing heavy and towing all the time, and I do mean 24-7. Roman's 2500 is a toy. Watch the videos. It's a toy and he's paying for it at the pump. Andrei did not include DEF fluid in the video. Perhaps it didn't need it. If something goes wrong with the DEF system, the computer will shut your truck down, not just limp mode, requiring it to be towed to the dealer for repairs, yes, the dealer only. This will be mega expensive. Yes, it is a trap. All diesels require this under EPA regulations that were started by YOUR state, California. Maintenance costs are at least double and are not DIY. Example: the cummins diesel requires 3 gallons of oil at every oil change. Thus, unless you're able to use the diesel's capacities on a regular basis, stick with gas. You can't drive enough miles to realize a cost benefit. Sorry.

I am a fan of the diesel my 2018 is my daily driver 53k on the clock never had an issue mine came with a 7 yr 100k bumper to bumper warranty and I only paid 54000 new back in 2018. I do tow a 33ft toy hauler when loaded weights about 12k with over 1300 lbs of tongue weight and my truck pulls it like it wasn’t even there really smooth power and never seems to work hard under the load.

In the 90's I worked for AAA in California and I can tell you Ram and most Chrysler shyt boxes have been at the top of the most unreliable list for over a decade now. The Cumming motor is its saving grace because everything else is Fiat garbage. Oh, the interior is very nice yes because you need a comfortable place to relax while waiting for the tow truck. It's a gamble buying a Ram. Will it make it to 100k or will it join the others at the dealer's mechanic? Just google Ram reliability. It's not new news.

Thank you for the info. RAM claims the new fuel pump is not available for the recall repair. They said it is still being "designed" and yet to be built. I find that odd because I've heard from several sources that the new pump is on the 21 and 22 RAMS Cummins trucks. Windshield wiper recall too. Mine has been fixed.

The downfall about the Dodge Rams are that they expect you to change out the glow plugs and the spark plugs and stuff about every 30,000 miles in order to keep your warranty. Maintenance kills in that lineup for some reason with the ram
