Honestly, this is the best retrace by far! It looks like someone squeezed all of the water out of Spongebob and he just became skinny and dehydrated like an actually sponge that's been sitting around a kitchen unused all day.

he looks like a different brand of sponge. I can see retrace 500 as some SpongeBob relative that shows up for an episode or something and his whole gag is that he is spongebob but weirder, like stanley but absurd

This feels very much like my sketchbook as a 7 year old when I’d trace my favourite characters versus just trying to draw them lol. Also, I’d like to see you try Louise Belcher. Feel like the ears would morph quite quickly.

Love that you showed all the tracings on top of each other! It's so interesting how slight, almost unnoticeable variations between each tracing slowly causes the character to mutate to such extreme degrees. For the next one, maybe you could make the original image semi-transparent and layer your animation on top of it?

now imagine the animators at nickelodeon... oh they have to draw him so many more times it feels painful assuming the frame rate of spongebob squarepants is 24/s, that would mean you only drew ~21 seconds of a spongebob episode (excluding every other character and setting)

The flow of this video was surprising to me. I was kind of shocked when you started the outro. I guess I'm too used to people trying to pad the video that I was thrown off but how straight forward this was. Either way, this seems like it was an interesting experiment. I might do this myself someday (although definitely not 500 times lol).

I think you should trace a character you are unfamiliar with AND I think the image should be upside down so your eye is less likely to notice the changes happening.

I've already started the next one and it's a character I know, but much less familiar than the rest. It's also going a lot faster than spongebob despite similar complexity (i.e. expect it to get cooked)
