Lightning comes from both the sky and from the ground, it branches out from the sky like a huge fractal pattern, while from the ground it stays mostly straight, curving up slightly to meet up with the cloud lightning. (this is mostly from tall places, you barely see it from ground level) Once the two charges connect it goes pretty much exactly like those lightning shapes you make, however they grow extremely thick, and any other lightning strands redirect into that one bolt, disappearing.

It is funny how animation doesn't have to be scientificaly accurate to portray an event. Watching your videos, I've never thought about "would it look like this in reality?", because you always (and I mean always) manage to make it look exactly like the thing you are aiming for. Keep trusting your gut man, it seems to lead you in the right direction every time! Oh, and a piece of feedback: On the 10 hour one, the sound is slightly different, the ess'es are quite harsh. If you can apply a de-esser or EQ the sound a bit (bring down the highs from around 3kHz-9kHz), that would help out soundwise a lot. Or maybe I'm just very sensitive 😅

People have pointed out the S thing before, and I've tried de-essing but I can't get it to sound good. One day I'll get a new mic :P

@@CyanSandwich yeah I feel you, it's a whole science to get it right! Usually your audio is excellent, so I don't think you need to think about it too much. It's impossible to be an expert at everything! One tip though, if you wanna try to use an EQ to remove unwanted frequencies and have a hard time finding the right frequency to decrease: Before decreasing, try increasing at different frequencies, and see at what frequency it starts to hurt, that will probably be where it needs to be decreased.

Idk why you said yours was too fast. I recently had a lightning storm, and I took 24 fps videos. It only ever took 1 or 2 frames for them to get all the way to the ground.
