not even 24 hours later robbie grossman has been traded to the rangers for a pitching prospect

gonna be sad to see pham go. the white sox have needed a club house booster for years, and we finally get one that's both productive and has a fantastic work ethic. it's easy to see how fast they turned around when he started playing with the team too, going from the worst team in baseball, on pace to be the worst in history, to a .500 W/L since he started playing with a 10 game sample size
@JZekis6 ай бұрын
Pham, Kopech, Fedde and Eloy are the only guys I genuinely expect to get traded and I don't expect the White Sox to get much for any of them. Nobody wanted Clevenger at last year's deadline and I don't expect anybody to nibble this year either

Cubs are going to take a run at Corchet.
@JZekis6 ай бұрын
@@woundedcrow4606 I don't know. They don't really need starters and picking him up for a stretch run to be in the pen would be spending a lot of prospect capital for a guy who might be on an innings limit coming off Tommy John. I don't think Crochet is going anywhere.
@woundedcrow46066 ай бұрын
@@JZekis he’s not a starter. Well, he is, but not a good one. If the Cubs get him, it’ll be because they need him as a closer. I think he’d rather be a closer on a good team than be a starter on the worst one.
@JZekis6 ай бұрын
@@woundedcrow4606 Converting him back into a reliever for a stretch run on a contender probably wouldn't make sense because he's going to have already pitched more this year than he'll have in any year in his career and he probably won't be able to go in back to back games. He's going to cost a ton of trade capital for a gig he might not be able to do. If they are going to spend that much trade capital they might as well get an established closer.
@woundedcrow46066 ай бұрын
@@JZekis I can’t argue with your logic at all, but the Cubs bullpen is a nightmare and by not doing anything to improve their team now, it alienates the monumentally dominant effort of the starters. Cubs starters had about a week between the last time they gave up even ONE earned run. Then a reliever cam in and gave up earned runs so quickly that they couldn’t get another reliever ready in time. It occurred to me earlier that Crochet could be the next Andrew Miller for the Cubs. Come in for 2 and 3 inning saves, dominate, then take the next day or two off. Also, Garret Crochet has multi arbitration eligibility years ahead. He isn’t going to be cheaper at the trade deadline. Jed Hoyer needs to make a move and he will pay a lot for a closer. Any team will ask for a top prospect/s for a closer, either now or later. He’s going to get fleeced either way. Might as well do it for a guy who can legitimately close games and isn’t a straight up rental

Idea for a future Thing: You've talked before about how pitchers who dump their adrenaline after getting out of a jam and screaming as they leave the mound shouldn't return the next inning. This just happened to Shota tonight against the Padres. Would be interesting to see other examples and if there's anything interesting or correlative in the stats/data surrounding those events.

We are waiting for pitchers to get off IL as more pitchers are going on to IL. Mahle, Scherzer, Burke and de Grom are progressing in their rehab, but then Bradford and Eovaldi got placed on the 15-day IL.

Ichiro had a .581 batting average on bunts in his career. I know it could never be a common tactic, given how hard it would be to succeed once infields start coming in for it, but its cool to see a 1. OPS on bunts.

Can you dive deeper into the bunt hits? Who is getting them, and how does it affect their exit velocity stats? Do they make a noticeable difference in their expected stats? How should bunt attempts for hits be calculated in expected stats since their whole purpose is finesse and control over barrels and high exit velo? Just things I’ve been thinking about.

@brennonjacobson62626 ай бұрын
My question on bunts. If teams are saying an out and moving the runner up lowers their win probability. What happens if that batter gets out and the runner doesn’t move isn’t that worse. Unless the hitter is an all time great odds of getting out are greater that 50%. So I still think it makes sense to move the runner up even if sacrificing an out. Also takes away the double play ball. They should be comparing a sac bunt runner + 1 base with +1 out to runner same base +1 out which is really the most likely outcome especially with high leverage arms.
@kyleOWillFixIt6 ай бұрын
I think a big part of why its ideal for teams to hold on til just before the deadline to trade guys away is because the returns are better. Teams know that they are on the brink and desperately need to fill a hole to make the playoffs. Or even really good teams that know they are going to make the playoffs may lose a key guy and need to fill a hole to keep their World Series hopes alive. For example the Dodgers and Braves are not giving you a dime for a DH right now but say Othani or Ozuna tear a hamstring or something and are out for the season. Suddenly you may be able to get a top pitching prospect for a good rental DH because those teams are trying to win it all and they will know that's going to be tough with a hole in your lineup where one of your best hitters should be.

21:26 how do you explain it being a 50/50 chance to win when tied no runners in the 9th then putting a guy on 2nd still no outs and your win expectancy not only goes down but falls by almost 25%

Confusing, but 1.000 = home win, and 0.000 = away win. Top of the inning, a runner doubled, so the away team is gaining an advantage of 18%. So go Jimmy’s point, away team win expectancy does not go down when sac bunting a runner over to 3rd, it goes up by that small margin of 0.007

White Sox fan here. I think that pool of guys seems pretty realistic to consider. Eloy, Flexen, and Kopech seem the most likely to be shipped off. Fedde seems likely too, and the Rays make sense, but Bannister (Sox pitching coach) seems to have found something good in fixing Fedde's stuff. Maybe that could be a consideration to keep him on the Southside. Will anyone want to trade for Clevinger? The Sox put him on waivers last August, nobody claimed him, then nobody signed him in Free Agency. Hmm. If teams are in need of veterans, Pham, Grossman, or even DeJong could be desperation options to trade off, too. Overall nice work
