This was an awesome video! Perfect way of explaining the difference between the two, and how to be thinking when you’re considering getting either. The R7 has a lot to offer that gets you set up for a 600 anyway; so it’s a good beginner sport bike for sport bike riders. The super upright sport bikes like the ninja 650 give a false sense of sport bike riding if you know what I mean. It’s a great bike but can definitely mislead some people I feel. The R7s position definitely gets your body ready for 600s or 1000s if you’re riding with proper posture. People hate on the R7 too much, but it’s a super fun bike that’s easy to control. That grom comparison you made was a good point to make with people who only ride 1000s or 600s. Well done with this video, I loved it!

What is the difference in insurance premiums between the two? That is the determining factor for many riders.
@NostalgicMotorcycles10 ай бұрын
I have no idea as that varies greatly city to city, rider to rider, and state to state. A 25 year old licensed rider will pay very differently in Florida(where I am) compared to Texas(has age/experience based insurance if I remember correct) I can say however, don’t buy a bike because it has cheaper insurance. Buy the bike you want if you can afford it. Wait and get the bike you want. You will be much more happy that way.
@bearwolffish5 ай бұрын
In UK the difference is between being able to get a quote or not being able to get a quote from any insurer. Have full license over a year, but no garage. R6 is a much higher category than an R7, it's a more powerful bike so the risk of a thief crashing and racking up damages is considered higher as well. Am paying $2000 a year with 1 year no claims on R7.

I’m of the opinion that if you’re coming over from dirt bikes, and have start/stop/shifting and throttle control under stress down to second nature. You can 100% start on a 600 super sport. And if you’re all those things while *also* being responsible and humble, you could probably even jump straight to a 1000. But if you just recently learned everything at the MSF course and are shopping for your first bike? Hell no. Definitely get a starter bike and get to that level first. I’m sad the industry is moving over to these mid power twins and 4 cylinders tuned for low power to pass emissions. Super sports are so incredibly fun. Hands down my favorite feeling, performing, handling, and coolest looking motorcycles ever made.

R7 is a very slim machine. The consensus I have seen from a buddy in my group who rides with 600s and a couple of us on 1ks are, he feels fast enough to keep up but he doesn't feel faster than anyone. I think the bike needs gearing, full bolt ons and dyno tune and it will be respected.
@NostalgicMotorcycles10 ай бұрын
I rode a fully stock bike and felt the same way. I let this guy ride my 600 and we rode for about 40 minutes after making the video for highway more off camera riding. And I didn’t get left behind in the r7. it went up to 13-14/10 on a speed scale a lot easier than I thought. The bike tops out in 6th so I don’t think gearing will help as it will reduce top speed but Intake exhaust and tune will change it a lot. It won’t be 600 fast no matter what. I will say a good rider on a tuned r7 Can do some track damage to a 600 rider with less experience. It’s close enough that in a track setting skill will outshine power for sure.
@fearlessfrank82662 ай бұрын
Hopefully someone has been in my place. Only ever driven a dirt bike and not even a super fast one. Couple of buddies have bikes and they're telling me not to get a R7 because I'll get bored get an R6. Is this true or should I start on this bike anyways? Or is there something that's slightly better than this that would be considered a beginner bike?
@NostalgicMotorcycles2 ай бұрын
If your goal is to go 186+ miles an hour the r7 is not the bike for you. If you want to go as fast as possible as long as possible the R7 isn’t for you. If your timid and not sure if your able to handle a 600 and doubt your ability to learn before you try and go full send get an R7. No one can pick a bike for you bro. You have to learn yourself. The R7 is decent fun peppy bike and it can go 130-140. It’s more than enough for street riding. But if all your friends have 600/1000 you’re not going to be happy because you won’t fit in with the crowd. They will leave you behind on highway rides and your ego will know you don’t have the faster bike. I personally prefer the 600 I have no issues handling the power it’s more uncomfortable. More aggressive louder and a less pleasurable bike to ride slowly or on highways but I like that and have other bikes to pick from. But the R7 is a slower more comfortable ride 🤷🏽♂️.

It’s not a 4 cylinder. A 2 cylinder 700 will make less power and make it differently than a 4 cylinder of equal displacement. But it has its appeal. It may be slower but the torque gives it a low speed feel fast that faster 4 cylinders just can’t. They will feel more sluggish at the bottom and make it more difficult at certain things. Pick your poison that’s different for everyone. But I was surprised man. Yes but don’t ever trust numbers or take them as true value. Motorcycle specs are pretty dumb because they never tell the full story. Look up how wide each seat is. A shorter seat height with a wider seat (legs more spread) can still feel taller since your legs arnt straight down. That’s the case here. The r7 is thinner so your legs can actually stand taller. 600 are wider bikes. Your legs will have to bend to clear the seat width.

A 600 will weigh and handle similar to your 650 where a 1000 will feel slower and heavier side to side. The main question is.. do you feel confident in your ability to handle a motorcycle that’s a lot faster or one that’s faster but not drastically faster like a 1000 would be?
@alanvillarreal228810 ай бұрын

1000s have power modes for a reason, they're much better bikes overall even as seating position goes, torque from down low, you can cruise way better on them, if you can handle a 600 you can handle a 1000. I started on a gen 3 hayabusa and I don't regret a single second. Flawless experience instead of a tiny bike that makes me feel unsafe on the highway. To each their own, if you're confident and talented enough you can ride anything, you can unalive yourself on a 400cc just as easy. Self control is what dictates the outcome nowadays. And I'll never consider any bike better than the 1000s and over that. The 6 axis IMU is a life saver and lower tier bikes don't have them, only really expensive new 600s@@NostalgicMotorcycles

I don’t disagree at all. I think exactly as you do. The fact doesn’t change that a 1000 in rain/slow what ever mode is still faster than a 600 everywhere. A 6 axis imu can not save you from giving a bike too much throttle while leaned over. And someone who isn’t 100% confident will make those mistakes may it because of their confidence and they don’t realize it but some people can’t handle themselves that way and expecting every person to think and feel as we do is un rational. As there are people that are new and timid. If your new and confident yeet yourself into oblivion be my guest. You’re not everyone and the people that are don’t need to be told to start on a small bike they won’t do it.
