Im a karate instructor and studied for just over a decade now. I loved your section on sparring! A lot if people think light or no contact kumite is a lot harder than full contact because the amount of control and situational/positional knowledge and range judgement required to do it. The adage of “punch through something” Is easy to follow, but having the control to punch and kick at speed while moving with an opponent is much more beneficial. The same goes for evading, and blocking. Stepping into full contact with that much of a cognitive advantage as a base does amazing things for your kumite.

One of the reasons light sparring is better than hard sparring is because you can get more rounds in going light. If you're going hard all the time, you're bound to get injured, requiring you to take rest and not be able to spar again. The way you get better in sparring is practice and if you're getting injured, you can't practice. So get out there and train guys :) Btw keep up the good work jax :))

This is the video I've been waiting for! I remember watching your Rock Lee video and instantly subbing to the channel. I was diagnosed with leukemia in January and I lost alot of my muscle from not being able to be physically active. Walking up a single flight of stairs after i was released was such an eye opening moment because I literally couldn't climb them without dragging myself up each step. Im getting to a point I can finally start building myself back up while going through chemotherapy and I plan to use your videos to help. Thanks for the awesome content and great vibes brother. 🤘 can't wait for the next one!!

So Bruce Lee said "Be like water." Then to reflect the word water, Tanjiro said "if you are lost, go back to basics." Guys, it helps if you need to be like water to move and be with flow. However, I am a dough. I can be fluid and also solid during the fight. What more I never got into a fight.

@gesslegonzales3692
@gesslegonzales3692 4 жыл бұрын
You gotta have a strong athletic base first, before indulging in vices(I do not condone). For example the Japanese MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba. He's a chain smoker and a heavy drinker, yet he competes in the highest levels. Wrestling requires a lot of hard work for him. You gotta have years of experience first.

I've read The Tao of Jeet Kune Do. It's pretty much a strategy book of kickboxing engagements, compiled from notes that Bruce took while reading old fencing and boxing manuals, exercise guides, philosophy books etc. Pay attention to his thinking in tying together these disparate arts, and strategic aspects like the five methods of attack. You could also just read the same stuff Bruce was reading. (Championship Fighting by Jack Dempsey - influenced Bruce, has an unorthodox style of boxing for both ring and street. Old-school combat fencers like Barton-Wright and Monstery would also be relevant) The grappling chapter sucks, naturally. The Art of Expressing the Human Body is great for some of Bruce's routines and exercise methods. It's also similar to modern MMA conditioning guides like Never Gymless.

About sprinting, what if I try run as fast as I can, and each time, reach a further distance? Oh, like three years ago, I don't know if I could run faster than now or before three years ago, but I could reach my top speed and hold it for a longer time. It was a little frustrating because I wanted to be faster. But interesting still.

They say Spike does Jeet Kune Do but I want to point out that it looks like Spike does a mixture of Taekwondo and boxing. You consistently see Spike doing high kicks to the head (Taekwondo) and using head movement to slip punches to the head (Boxing). You don't often see Spike grappling either, which would indicate a grappling martial art like jujitsu or wrestling. I hope this spurs an interesting discussion.

At my boxing gym the coach would make people spar very rarely but every. single. day we had to run through our defense drills, with one person punching full speed and full force a predetermined combo with the other person defending with the blocks we already learned, it was pretty great because you don't get punched but you still learn distance and timing in a both offensive and defensive way (I did get punched a few times because I messed up my timing or wasn't fast enough but 3-4 hits in a month? that's not a bad ratio), it obviously wasn't the same as sparring but I always found it super beneficial.

Have you ever read Teppu? If you haven't, you should. It's about women's mma and it's one of those hard work vs talent stories, but from the view of the talented one. Which I found quite interesting. Also all the moves they use are legit.

Yo Jax Blade I know you’re a huge Digimon fan. What’re your thoughts on the 8 episodes released so far of the Digimon 01 reboot?
