The pickup sensitivity might not be the pickups as much as the extended range. Bigger strings cause more effect on the magnetic field on guitars. Typically, you want to have the pickups set lower (more away from the strings) otherwise, the strings will overly push the pickups.

You could get a bass line schecter 8 string for a couple hundred more with better pickups. Or even a ESP. I have the hell raiser with EMG's and a ESP Ltd that I was able to get used for crazy prices. Especially for the condition they are in. That guitar sounds great on that expensive setup, but I wasn't to impressed when you ran it through the amp sim or w.e. you had it in. Not a bassist myself, but I wanna know what the bassist is supposed to play. Get 200+ gauge strings to thump an octave lower than dad-rock territory? I prefer downtuned 6 OR a 7 slightly downtuned (besides, 5 string basses are getting cheap and effective). I'm at least glad that this 8 string has fanned frets... non-fanned 7 strings already have enough intonation/tension quirks.
@mayabass24

@@brianbergmusic5288 In Meshuggah, the bass player tuned his E string up to F or F#. Hence, guitars and bass in the same octave. Other bands have used multi scale basses with thicker gauge strings. Dingwall NG3 for example.

I have this exact model from g4m since around 8 months. Overall if you're unsure whether an 8 string is for you and want to kinda start and mess around with it, this guitar might be good for that, maybe not so much for a professional musician. It has some problems with lower strings staying in tune on specific frets, I'd say thats the only main issue i have with it, other flaws are rather minor, the brigde elements in mine were pretty loose though which initially made setting the action of the strings a bit difficult. Sound wise it's decent, it sounds best on bridge pickup, the upper one makes the sound a bit too muddy for me if you're playing complex chords. Bonus points for aesthetics, because it really is a pretty guitar

Rondo Music has a budget 8-string as well, the HADEAN ELS 8 BK currently at $200 if anyone is interested; it has a 27" scale... I for one would certainly like to see Taylor check out some more budget extended range options! I also see a 25.5" scale 8-string on amazon branded as Gstyle for $229, which is also sold as a BexGear unfinished kit (many have said these are just blemished factory seconds that may need fixing) It would be cool to see Taylor try that Gstyle 8-string with this tuning: F-C-F-A#-D#-g-c-f, which would be Standard C in the middle 6 strings with a low dropped F and a high F as well! Or change the g to g# for Standard F on the high 6 strings, if that is more comfortable to play! Keep on Rocking everyone! \m/

ive got that guitar for more than a year, not stainless steel frets, they are nickel. The pickups are pretty good for the price, they are bassy and very spikey, a mid boost can help you out. You must copper shield it to perform well to high gain, and also setup the frets because most of them are unleveled. The angulation of the pickups makes the 8th string and the 1st weaker on output so take that on consideration. Angulated open pickups like Elysian is recommended. Overall, its a verygood guitar for the price, but you will invest on heavy setup to make it work for studio recording. So, its up to you

I think there are EMG 81-8 and 85-8 available, they may do the job for this obvious Djent-factory... Seems this G4M can justify the purchase of the Engl E620 preamp I did for my recording studio👹🤟🤣 Moreover, so I can have the 14-stings Krappy tapping-factory with is 23Hz low-F# which BTW can be dropped to a 20.6Hz low-E, going into the Ampeg tube amp, thus, I still can't really figure out what to use as a sub speaker: over 30Hz, I have a Beyma with 101dB efficiency but there is nothing as loud in the 20-30Hz range... Might be an issue to press vinyles too🤣

Any chance to try that small 20 SS head they have? BTW cabinets they have are great. Guitars are amazing, for a long time it was cool until YTubers started to post about them, becouse i would wait on discount and get em cheep. In the past they had some sick models.

@@sisajtegabre yeah possibly. Right now I have 2 more guitars from them and that will probably be it for this year, but potentially early next year 🤷‍♂️

@@TaylorDanley OK cool, thx for answering. Well i don't know in details how it goes when you have a YT chanel, but IMHO they have some nice deals. You did a favour to people who didn't knew about them. There are some other HQ brands under radar from Europe, if you interested i'll name them. One of them make guitars in Europe ala PRish but price started from like 600US$, and qulity is equal to 3000 US$ guitars, attention to details wood etc. Basically i like HQ equipment that is not expensive lol, and i collect data for the last 15 years ☺, and work as repairmen, wind pickups, design tools etc. but it's amazing when you can find 1st class guitar cheap, after all it's 21st century, great guitars are made all over the world.

@@TaylorDanley Sorry i forgot to put like on video, so i did it now👍, i like some of your videos..I might subscribe..Since you are in the US? I'm a bit jealous becouse your 2nd market is a treasure for amazingly HQ forgotten modells of guitars and amps from 80's, 90's. And early 2000. Old MIK Washburns, Hamer guitars, tons of Korean brands who tried to make a change on a market, Indonesian like ''Laguna'' guitars, their higher models were superb, Greg Howe had a signature. MIJ Fernandes, also MIK Fernandes and new MIC are so cheap in the US and uber HQ guitars...To cut long story short, rock on, I wish you all the best, cheers. 🤘👍

The neck dive on this guitar must be insane considering how long that headstock is.

I ALWAYS FORGET TO TEST THIS. People ask quite a bit, and there is going to be a good amount of neck dive on any guitar with an extended range.. But IME most of that can be mitigated by a quality strap.

If you get tired of it, feel free to send it to me xD I'd happily borrow it for a while. I've only ever played 6 string guitars, but I love my 6 string bass so I'd imagine its a similar feeling.

When extended range guitars are tuned down they lose so much definition that you can't build a very melodic song with them. They are fun to play with though!

I've owned and played 7 string and 8 string guitars, but they just feel like they're only good for one thing - chugging on the low strings. Long story short, Instead of owning them now, I just detune a 6 string to play in that range instead.

So did I. A Jackson...I returned it swiftly as it would never stay in tune. Look at the upgrades required starting with machine heads....It's far better to buy a higher budget guitar in this case.

Hi! Someone who actually has this guitar. (You can see it in my pfp). I'm personally not a fan of the pickups as they almost just feel dull. aside from the pickups, great guitar tbh. I'm still in debate about changing the pickups so I actually took it's low string and put it on my SubZero (Now G4M just like the guitar in this video) 7 string.
