I Tried a DIFFUSER On My Type 4 Wash and Go *Surprising Results*

I used a diffuser on my type 4 hair after doing Antony Dickey’s wash and go method. I got amazing results, but a few unexpected things happened.
Let me be frank. I didn’t think 4c hair had a reason to use a diffuser. Furthermore, before this year, I’d never imagined getting amazing results from a wash and go - period. I was like many type 4 naturals whom dreaded detangling so much that any style that encouraged having the hair in its natural state looked like a nightmare waiting to happen. Also - when is the last time you’ve seen a mainstream brand showcase a 4c wash and go in their marketing campaigns? I’ll wait. Needless to say, I’ve never found a reason to own a diffuser attachment until today.
I have low porosity hair and Anthony Dickey’s wash and go method (check out my tutorial) leaves my hair soaking wet and takes two to three FULL days to dry. There’s no way I’m walking around looking like a rendition of that scary chick from the Grudge. So I needed something that would maintain the coil definition I worked so hard for, but dried my hair fast.

Listen, I’m not about to wait 5 business days for this low porosity hair to dry. I put so much work into this wash and go, I need this definition to stay…so I tried a diffuser. Any of you type 4 naturals ever try a diffuser? S/O to SheRea Delsol that had me in tears with this “5 business day” comment on my last video. PS My blow dryer is fine. It’s this cheap a** over priced apartment that’s got to GO! 🤣

5 business days... Im dying 💀💀💀😂😂😂 I have low porosity hair too. I put the mouse on top of the gel and my hair dried in no time. I did this Saturday and my hair is still soft with definition. I'm going to shampoo it tonight and see what happens. I love this method. Moisiurized, definition, no crunch.. You can't beat this!

@@LaToyaEbonyHair update. I did it again last night and I am truly in love. I've always loved my wash and gos, but this method is fire. I don't need to do it everyday though. With the moisture in my hair, I can actually do it every week. I shampoo weekly anyway so this is my new process. I've seen Dickey before, but I never saw the details like you just shared. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

I love how you got Anthony Dickey on to help you, it's really gonna help me. As far as the diffuser goes I would say dry your roots without pushing your ends up, wet hair dries from ends to roots. That may even reduce some shrinkage. So just stick the fingers of the diffuser in the spot of roots without pushing the ends up too

I sit in front of a large fan while doing multiple things and within 30 minutes, my wash and go is at least 85-90 percent dry. I love Anthony Dickey and a few friends of mine follow his method with great results. They use cheap conditioner daily and a sulphate-free shampoo weekly for cleansing. My wash and gos last 2 weeks. I clarify, condition to detangle and deep condition my hair. Then, I use a leave-in conditioner, African Pride curling cream and seal with Olive oil. I don't use gel. I shake my head to separate my curls. My hair remains moisturized for 2 weeks perhaps because I am medium porosity and I also drink 3 litres of water per day. I just pop on a bonnet at night and fluff my hair in the mornings. Once I refreshed my hair with water and a leave-in conditioner and it left my hair frizzy and dry. Never again. I don't refresh in between wash days and my hair is fine. We just need to get to know our hair and do what's best for it. My hair is thriving.

I do my wash and go once a week. I air dry for about 2 to 3 hours and then diffuse for 15 to 20 minutes on warm/medium heat, not high or hot. At that point whatever is not completely dry can finish air drying with no problem. Also that dryer seems super heavy. I would suggest you look into the Red By Kiss Handle-Less Dryer. Lightweight, works great, cheap(about $20). Won't blow your circuits...Lol. By the way, love your content.

I love my hair dryer diffuser!!! It takes FOREVER, but it gets the roots dry quick...which takes "5 business days" to dry (love that saying, I need this on a shirt). But your dryer is crazy, cutting off your power/shutting down itself. I have kiss 1875 Pro...it's aaaaaaamazing!!! It comes with a million attachments (nozzle, diffuser, wide tooth comb, a more fine tooth comb), a cool shot button, and a cool setting if you don't want to use any heat at all. But best thing, it doesn't shut off my power or overheat 🙂.

If it can last a week, and the whole process from washing to drying can take less than 2 hrs then it's totally worth it. I love the look. Some say it's better to try diffusing the roots first and not scrunching up the length during diffusing. That may be worth trying and result in a lengthier look?

The Dyson is crazy expensive BUT it does what it’s says it will in less time than the less expensive brands. Is it worth it? I would say yes because when you average it out over the long term and recognize that your time is money, then the numbers speak for themselves. And really you only need to dry it enough so that you can leave the house without it dripping. And if you want a cute, super defined Afro, try Dickey’s method but use your regular handheld dryer to dry it. I bet you will like that final look too. 😀

Your result came out really cute. 😍😍😍 I bought a diffuser recently too and yes, it takes a really long time. lol It is like using a hair dryer with less intensity, I used it on only air flow with no heat and it made the dry time even longer.😭😭 I usually combine the diffuser with a fan, that makes it faster. I also like to do my wash and go's at night. For my last wash and go, I tried the plopping method and I really liked it. Plopping is basically loosely wrapping your hair in a cotton t-shirt after applying your wash and go products (just before going to bed). That way when you wake up, the shirt soaks up all the excess product and makes it easier to air dry or blow dry. There's a technique to it though so that the shirt does not cause frizz. You can search for it on KZbin, it is mostly done by people with looser curls. My wash and go is 4 days old and it still looks pretty good and defined.

It's actually meant for curly hair. It's a way to dry your hair without disturbing your curls/coils so it results in less frizz. The air is diffused so it's less direct heat than if you use the regular nozzle attachment. It also gives my hair more volume. I turn my dryer on warm or low, not hot.

@@mnqolivia Thanks Sis. I’ll have to try it. Have you tried steaming? And how do you feel about it if so? I have been keeping my hair braided professionally but they braid the edges so tight it’s counterproductive to my hair goals. Thanks again Sis.

So can you do favors for your KZbin fans, lol? I heard Anthony saying that the best way to do twist outs is on dry hair after you've moisturized it and blown it out. Does he have any more tips on how to maintain moisture with a twist out? Like is there any way you can ask him, lol because I do all my twist outs on wet hair and now he's saying the best way to retain moisture is to do it on dry hair so I'm a bit confused. 💫💫💫💫

I do my twist outs on dry hair sprayed with a little water. It’s gives the best results. Idk what he meant by that. If the topic comes up next time we talk, I’ll ask.

MsNaturale Michelle MsNaturale Michelle LaToya sis I don’t think diffusers are for us 4c. Please check out KIM founder of Curlmix. She has 4c hair and only wears wash and goes. She demonstrates a method of blow drying to get elongated 4c hair. Her hair looks elongated after she is done. KIM calls this “THE BLOW DOWN METHOD “ m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJKVdIyXrdCen5o

Thanks for the tip! I guess if you really desire the elongated look, that’s a great method. Anthony told me my hair would dry elongated, buuuuuut I scrunched my hair with the diffuser. Tbh I like the diffuser for when I want to enjoy my “shrinkage” and the elongated look would be dope when I want to see my length. 🙌🏾

I thought so too until I actually did it. I've worn wash and gos forever. But I never really tried this method. I mean the drenching part and adding the mousse. So I followed the directions to the letter and I did it Saturday.. Bomb results.. Then I did it again Monday, AMAZEBALLS. I just did it again tonight. I styled my hair in the shower and took my full shower, got under my dryer, then I blow dried the roots. The whole thing start to completely dry and finished in 1 hour 20 minutes. I was gobsmacked. I will do this method each and every time I do a wash and go!!! My hair is low porosity, armpit length. My hair is so freaking soft, defined and as shiny as new money.
