A drugstore bond repair showdown would be something I'd love to see here! These days I feel like high end haircare is nothing short of a science washing money grab, even though it was presumed to be way better in the haircare space back then.

I’ve used them for awhile. Only their shampoos were better, and now Western brands are catching up (with things like caffeine and niacinamide in shampoos). At the same time, Asian hair care is increasing in price because of social media hype. So the two are converging now in terms of both quality and price.

Abby just to give you a little reassurance. I think you do a superior job like an excellent job at letting people know that these videos are a review of products, based on YOUR personal experience, and that your hairs response to a product, may not necessarily indicate that the product is crap. I think you’ve always done a great job of communicating that just because a product doesn’t work for you, that doesn’t mean it’s garbage. That said, I would love to see a short concise review of what your current faves are, that are affordable, best for long fine damaged hair, and basic. As in shampoo and conditioners, and maybe the one essential can’t live without product to use after washing hair. Affordability becomes so important, the longer hair gets since longer hair requires more product. My number one product interest is conditioner. I think there’s nothing more important than having a great detangling conditioner for long hair. One more thing thank you for also talking about how strong the one conditioner mask was. I to get headaches thanks to some of the overly fragranced conditioners to the point where they can interfere with my ability to sleep if the fragrance is too intense.

I also have wavy hair and I initially went down the Curly Girl Method rabbit hole. I don't follow any of that anymore. I use sulfates, I use silicones, etc. and my hair is just fine. People make wavy hair sound like brain surgery and turn it into this ridiculously complicated thing. I think what's more important is that you find the styling products that work for you and give you the results you're looking for. If you don't already follow Swavy Curly Courtney's channel I would recommend checking that out. She has tons of videos on taking care of wavy hair.

I used the Amika Mirrorball shampoo, conditioner and gloss, and the first few times I used them, my hair was SO great and felt super light and shiny / glossy. But after the first several times, I haven't gotten the same effect. It also lathered easily which I enjoyed. I use it in combination with some of my K18 shampoos if I don't want to dry my hair out too much (as in, use it as my second shampoo)
@danilyons23679 ай бұрын
As someone who has formally dabbled with the infamous curly girl method, my relationship with silicones is kinda complicated? What I found through a year of experimenting is that if I used a silicone conditioner twice in a row without clarifying, my curls would look awful, weighed down and incredibly messy looking. However, straight after clarifying I get the best curls ever! Most silicone free conditioners have horrendous formulas though, so there are very few that I trust, and I tend to clarify every wash now anyway so I don’t really use the silicone free anymore.
@katejohns32849 ай бұрын
I'm a reformed curly girl too. I've found I need cycles of deep cleaning and hair masks. I use mild sulphate shampoo and silicone shampoo, then a deep clean shampoo and a hair masks with silicone. I was every 5-6 days. So yeah working in cycles gives me the benefits of silicones without being weighed down.

What you need to look for is water soluble hair care silicones- just google for those. Not all silicones are bad for your hair, the ones that are insoluble in water such as dimethicone are the ones causing buildup

I only wash my hair once a week. I use a pre-shampoo bond building treatment, bond repair shampoo, k-18 mask, conditioner, and then the living proof bond building treatment. Would I benefit from using coconut oil instead of bond builders for 1 of my washes every month? Or is just using bond builders every wash okay? I tried the coconut oil you recommended one time and I really liked what it did for my hair…but this was before I was routinely using bond builders and I just got balayage…so lots of bleach was used. @dyoungerman.9 ай бұрын
The hydrogen peroxide may be used to lift the cuticle to allow the other ingredients to penetrate better, and then the citric acid may be used to close it again. I'm thinking similar to the K18 Professional Hair Mist followed by the K18 Professional Chelating mist. The first mist lifts the cuticle & the second seals it back down after removing the mineral deposits. They recommend following with their charcoal clarifying shampoo & K18 mask. I do a chelation treatment once a month & it's a noticable difference.

I'm not sure that's what the K18 statement you showed means. The entire sentence, up until the last four words, implies that you use the mask and conditioner the way they've been telling everyone to. I think they're trying to say that you should use the conditioner after the mask because it will give "additional softening and detangling benefits" that will last until your next wash day, hence the "between K18 mask days" part of the statement. But if that is what they mean, they worded it very poorly.

Also, with the oil control shampoo, it does take a while for the scalp (skin) to respond to the treatment. For those with wavy hair (I am located in Europe though): I have medium density -medium thick 2B wavy hair and follow Abbey's routine, but my shampoos are either pharma brands focusing on scalp or drugstore only, I use a mix of high-end, drugstore and Korean masks, thick drugstore conditioners and a mix of high-end and drugstore leave-in conditioners. The REDKEN glycolic acid HEAT protectant works wonders for me, I spray it only on lengths and ends of my hair (I use a diffuser) and it has never been shiny and soft like this before with any other heat protectants. Because I use mousse for wave enhancement my hair has been always crunchy with other heat protectants (Tresemme), but this Redken really suprised me, my waves came out soft and shiny like never before.

Hi Abbey 🥰 First of all thank you for all the time and effort you put into your haircare vids and for the scientific information you provide to your followers. ☺️ As a former hairdresser in Denmark, studying the chemical compounds of the scalp and hair was a huge part of the 4 year study. Yeah, I know, it’s crazy how long the education is in Denmark. 😅 But that aside I always agree with your points and statements and I’m so happy that someone with your knowledge and international followers is sharing all this. Thank you for that. ☺️ I have a question regarding your review on the new Redken line: Have you taken into consideration that your hair is already very healthy (at least that’s what it seems to me) and therefore it’s naturally shiny (your cuticles are not damaged) and therefore your not seeing an noticeable difference when you used the products? I hope you get to see this comment cause I’m very curious about your thoughts on my question. 🙈 Once again, thank you for your amazing work. Virtual hugs from Denmark. 🤗😘

I thought it was odd that Redken is just now coming out with a glossing range. I wonder how the L'Oreal ever pure glossing line compares to the Redken. You reviewed it in the past but I would like a comparison between the 2.

Hi Abbey!! Have you tested any fragrance free shampoos? Necessaire, Odele, Seen (at Ulta)… I’m so sensitive and I the reviews for these fragrance free shampoos have such mixed reviews. I’d love to hear your thoughts!!! ❤

Hi Thank-you for your reviews. I am now tossing up between Oribe brand Shampoo & Conditioner and K18 Shampoo & Conditioner. Which is better Oribe or K18? I have coloured light hair. It is medium fine. It’s long like yours. I don’t get an oily scalp but over all my hair can get a bit dry. Let me know what your favourite brand? I am from Australia . Adore Beauty has a huge selection. It would be easier to get it in Australia than overseas. Hair goals Hydration Damage repair Softer in texture Any ideas for masks I have used Olaplex for 2 years. I am now ready for a change. I would love to have a new hair care routine. I think I have over used Olaplex and I am using K18 masks. I think I am over doing it. My hair is so dry.

Abbey! Love your videos! Have you tried the brand Virtue? I don't think I have seen you review them? I've been loving their stuff!

Hi Abbey, has the K18 peptide prep ph maintenance shampoo been renamed or discontinued? I don't see it on their website, but I still see it on Amazon and Sephora, for example. Now K18 has a Damage Shield ph protective shampoo. Do you know, is this the same as the K18 peptide prep ph maintenance shampoo. I enjoy the shampoo very much. I hope the formula hasn't changed.

Part of reviewing is sharing observations and experiences. I think you did a great job of doing that without being negative. It was an informative video. 👍 ❤

Have you tried the new Garnier Hair Filler line? I’m curious how close it is to the Redken Acidic Bonding since it’s owned by the same company for those of us on a budget!

oh abby i feel so vindicated that you said what you said about the oribe serene scalp shampoo like i tried it and i had high hopes . but compared to the drug store shampoo w/ sulfates that i was using before, my hair also got oily quicker. the moment i switched to a different shampoo (ouai medium) my hair lasted a whole extra day. crazy. now i have this bottle sitting on my shelf

The new Living Proof clarifying shampoo has been a game changer for me and I have an oily scalp. I’ve use Ouai and Pantene Volume. I finally found one that cleanses my scalp. I guess I’m an odd ball. To each his own I guess.

Silicones are a hit or miss for me. We have very hard water here. My hair is usually low to normal porosity but I’m coloring it again so it is more normal now. My crown will actually stay wet now. It depends on the type, what the weather is doing, and if my SD is acting up. I have to wash my scalp fairly frequently because it is oily and I live in the perfect climate for SD to thrive. Some of these new products seem to be either super niche or just confusing. I don’t like Redken and Amika's shampoo or rinse-out conditions but the other products are nice.

Do you have any thoughts on FEKKAI? As clarifying hair products? I noticed you didn't review it in your clarifying video, have you tried it? By the way, amazing, thank you for sharing!
