Yes as someone who regularly sugar waxes you got a “hard wax” which happens when you cook the sugar for too long. A softer caramel will be easier to work with and remove the hairs better. Additionally, always make sure to powder your skin first or you won’t pick up the hairs as well.

Hi Tina! for a first time, you actually did a great job! We've been using sugaring here in Algeria since ever. I do it myself since I was 16 (so for 8 years now) so I can give you some personal (and Granny) tips that I hope will help: First thing: Preparation: 1- I use 1 cup of sugar for 1/4 cup of lemon juice or less (I don't add water or I add one spoon). I don't have exact measurements but I add it to the sugar and steer it before putting it on heat. you don't want it too liquid but kinda thick. 2- I then put it on medium heat and steer to dissolve the sugar. let it bubble a little bit then steer again. 3- Now, when to take it off the heat?? here it depends on your skin temperature and the season. if you usually don't have sweaty hands then take it off the heat when it's golden (I do the same also when it's winter). if you've got sweaty warm hands or it's summer then leave it until it's golden brown or caramel brown (but not dark because it will keep cooking even if you take it off and you don't want it burned LOL). 4- I generally put it in a plastic bags. I then put them in a plastic container when cool or slightly warm. This is an easy way to fast access when needed. 5- I put them in the refrigerator. Second thing: Pre- Using time!!! 1- I take one of the bags. I take out the piece and put it on a plastic paper then on a plate and go on bain-Marie ( or microwave it instead). Once, it's flexible and a bit warm I take it off the heat and it's ready to use. you just want it warm not hot. Third thing: Using time!!! 1- I like to sit on my small carpet on the floor away from everything in case it gets messy :). 2- I bring: my plate, a container with slightly warm water. 3- make sure that it's slightly warm. i take it in my hands and manipulate it a little bit without any water. if hard I stick one finger in the water and keep pasting it -if I can say that- for few seconds till it's done (you're gonna feel that it's ready :) ). 4- If you don't know try it on your leg or so. and it's gonna work out for you!! 5- put it in the opposite direction of the hair growth then pull in the same direction, to make sure you're not breaking your hairs. 6- With time two diamonds-size piece will do you two arms :). Extra tips: 1- if you like to add water in it, use bottle water. It's better for your skin health and sensibility. 2- Bring a clean old T-shirt (cotton t-shirt if possible) and cut small pieces. if it ever stick somewhere put that piece and take it off like if you're waxing! it works awesomely 👌 . 3-make sure that the room temperature is a little bit cool. It works better that way. 4- Don't add too much water, otherwise it will get very sticky. 5- When finished -if wanted- take a slightly warm shower. All the residues will dissolve. 6- If you have a very sensitive skin, avoid doing it more than twice on the same spot (yet it is generally harmless for sensitive skin). 7- if only one or two hairs are left use a tweezer. they will be very easy to extract. 8- I like to do it after a shower. 9- When I'm done, we like to use a secret cream that my Granny taught us to prepare. Yet, any oil can work perfectly after you finish, to cool down and calm your skin. 10- I use a plastic bag because it is easier to remove it from it. 11- Good light is needed. 12- FILTER YOUR LEMON JUICE FROM ITS PULPS, very important 😁✔ I love it because it also takes off the dead skin so it's lovely for your skin and it shrinks the large pores after cleaning them! I'll add here any other tricks I may remember! Please let me now if it worked better for you this way! Love, Norhane

@@Sentariana It's a French cooking technique. it's basically when you use a pot to boil water and put the thing you want to heat up (here it's the sugar waxing mixture) in a bowl in that water. It is better than putting in the microwave because it heats up evenly. Just make sure to stir it. You've probably seen this technique if you've seen any recipe that uses melted chocolate.

There’s an auntie from Lebanon who used to do my sugar waxes when I was still living at home. Her recipe was always pretty soft in consistency and light in color so it might be that your sugar got a bit overcooked. In that case, you probably needed to treat it more like a hard wax an use it while it was close to body temperature (like heated with a wax warmer to keep it fluid).
@Sandra-ox4iz
@Sandra-ox4iz 4 жыл бұрын
As someone who uses sugar wax for months now, I‘ll give you some advice :) - You did a hard wax, which means you rip the sugar wax with your hands but your wax end up being too hard which makes pulling the hair a lot harder! - Instead try a soft wax! Using more lemon juice for your soft wax makes it more spreadable. Also you need to use a cloth when using soft wax. After done cooking your wax, put some baby powder on your skin, spread the wax on your skin with a popsicle stick, put the cloth on it, wait a few seconds, then *pull it like you mean it* trust me. Don‘t be shy, pull hard lol - I also tried kneading the wax when I started using sugar wax but it did not work for me. It hardens too quickly, the wax is too hot and overall it‘s a messy job. - Personally, I don‘t find sugar waxing very painful. I noticed how my hair grows back less and also my hair is less dense so for everyone who‘s interested in waxing their hair you should do it! I find the pain very durable, but if you‘re scared of the pain, make a small patch test and test out your wax on a small spot e.g your arm. I‘d love to see a second part of your video Tina, don‘t give up! ☺️

For how long should I cook the mixture after boiling for it to become soft wax?
@rhammer7664
@rhammer7664 4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I found using the strip method a lot easier when I first started sugaring. With this method you don't have to be as precise about the consistency you cook the sugar mixture to - just heat it up a little if it's too hard and won't spread easily. A soft or hard sugar will stick to the strip, and the strip will give you a lot more control when you are sugaring for the first time!

i'm a teen so NOT AN EXPERT but i have been sugaring for about a year now on and off and here are a few tips i learned from my mom hope this helps: i use strips or a piece of fabric which i think is much less messy . when the sugar mix doesn't stick anymore you just got to pop it back in the microwave . cleaning the area before will help with the patchiness, irritation and any redness it may cause . don't wash the area with hot water after as it can make it more irritated i would just apply cream and wash the waxed area in a few hours . it can cause pain the first few times but after about 2 or 3 times you just don't feel it anymore . just like wax it reduces hair in long term use hope this helps if anyone wants to try it

Hi Tina! I use sugar wax for about 5 years now and it was also frustrating at the beginning but I found a technique which is more efficient to me. I make my sugar wax a little bit more liquid than yours, store it in a glass jar and I use reusable patches to remove the hair. I have a little wooden spatula to grab the wax from the jar, put on my skin and then the paper patch to pull it. It works perfectly, it's fast, practical, not at all messy and I can clean the patches with water once I'm done :) it's all about patience!!! Love the video 😘

Hi Tina! You should mold the sugar wax against the growth of the hair and then pull in the same direction that they grow. Also, when you mold it do this dragging motion (if that makes sense) two or three times so that the sugar really catches the hairs. Abetweene has great sugar wax videos so maybe you should check her out.

I can give you a couple of tips , first : the sugar continue cooking after you move it from the stove so you really should keep your eye on it until it reaches the light to meduim caramel color and you can slightly smell a deep carmilized aroma . 2/next time just when the sugar is warm enough to the touch use it immediatly and start working it in you hands like you did. 3/ never add oil 4/ you need to work on a clean dry surface. 5/ use baby powder or corn stratch it will help the sugar stick to the skin and it will absorb all the moister . Finally with pratice you will master the sugar waxing 😁😁😁

*helpful information* I recommend putting the wax on baking paper. Place the baking paper on the bowl and then the wax on it. It is easier that way. I never made it myself, I just used the finished ones. *some tips* • if it becomes a light color after use, it is usually no longer usable. it is much more difficult to work with. • do not knead it too long, otherwise it will be too hard. • put some of the wax on a firm cloth that has the perfect length and width e.g. for the armpit area. and you put the other one on your skin then press the cloth exactly on the same place and run your finger over it. then peel off with the cloth. •be sure your hands are not too warm or sweaty, that will only worsen the wax consistency and make it difficult. therefore always wipe off the sweat. And try to keep the wax somehow cold. Like: swing the cloth on which the wax is on in the air, so that it cools a little (by holding the cloth on the side. •After use, take a part of the wax and knead it in your hands and stick it on the cloth again before using it again. or tie the cloth together and knead it together by pressing your finger. • when i use the finished ones, i heat it in the microwave for a very short time (it shouldn't be liquid but still a bit hard). then I put some newspaper under the shower and moisten it (it should be slightly damp, not too much). after that put the wax on it (but not with your hands use a spoon or you will burn your fingers) and wait a bit, until it cools down and solidifies. knead it and then stick it on with the cloth, as previously written.

I have been getting my hairs with this method for eight years and I can say that the best is this method. A waxer who comes home is doing me waxing. She prepares the wax herself. It is useful to make the wax a little more fluid. It leaves a clean body for 2 months. The only sad part is that it hurts a lot. Because the wax is pulled on my half leg straight by applying it. So, more time is saved. In the video, the feathers are taken very gently, so it seems to be useless. The harder you stick and pull, the better. You can also use this wax anywhere on your body. This method is very popular in Turkey. Great Video :)

You should model the sugar while it's stil hot it kinda burns the fingers but my trick is to cool my fingers in cold water. And you should stretch it until it chnages color otherwise once you put it to use it will not pull all the hair and will be very hard. Hope I helped. Hello Tina. I've been sugar waxing for ages and let me give you somea tips: - In summer, the mixture is soft enough to knead and work with. But in winter, I use heat to soften it at first. - You need to knead enough until the batch is bright gold. - The process is messy on some level and time consuming, but I really like how my skin is soft and clean after it. It does take off the dead skin. I really use it extra around the knees and elbows. - It's way more easy to stretch the patch at first, then apply it on the required area and repeat. Use the method you used of stretching it while applying at the end when the batch is really softy and time to throw it away. . I recommend you try it a couple more times to really asses the experience. . Overall, I remember my first experience was really difficult. So it's okay. And I did learnt how to DIY it. Thank you! ^-^

as a person who usually uses sugar waxing, I would recommend spreading it with the direction of hair growth not the opposite direction since it picks up more hair. I would also recommend buying it instead of making it at home because sometimes it turns out way too hard as yours and sometimes way too melty. I would also recommend using smaller pieces at a time and spreading it as evenly as possible. Finally, work your sugar wax more than you did before applying it to your skin so it could pick up more hair. Some of those tips work for some people and doesn't for others but this is from personal experience. lots of love from Egypt. ❤️

Sorry it hurt you, hope you're doing good! PSA to everyone else, do NOT try to tape wax your skin! Scotch tape does nothing, and anything strong enough to rip the hair rips off WAY more skin than any wax/sugar does. It can even rip your skin and make you bleed. Even a razor is better because if you are careful and go slowly, you are not likely to cut yourself.

I actually tried this hack before. But I did not cool it down completely . I kept it mild hot and used sheets of cloths to pull out the hairs (like we do in regular waxing) it works completely. Also I put some powder before waxing and alovera gel after the waxing was done. Anyways, Love you so much. Keep doing what you are doing, I just love your videos. 😘

I had the same problem. Next time use a candy thermometer and cook to a soft ball stage. Or as you mentioned use the hard wax while warm and use strips to remove the wax. Also when you mold, try molding 2-3 times to make sure the wax is really stretching and grabbing the hairs. Good luck in the future! it took me 2-3 times to get a good batch when I first started. 😀

I have done sugar waxing before. I really like it so much better than wax strips or shaving. I found that letting the sugar kinda sit on the skin a little before pulling off to be effective. It can be a little patchy, but usually you can keep waxing that area to get the hair off. Also the wax can be used multiple times. Not just a one and done

I do regular sugar waxing and you should really apply the wax opposite to hair growth with some intensity and cover large area, let it b like that for 5 secs and then rip it. Hard or soft wax both works because it will get softer eventually by body heat. I did it on my sister recently and was able to pull out hair with roots. It's the best waxing technique cuz it's convenient and low cost.

It is a piece of candy. That's how they make it. If I can find a sugaring recipe that uses a candy thermometer to be exact rather than going by color, that would be great. Makes it more foolproof. Definitely want to try this out at some point. I saw another video that explained technique really well. Like how to handle it and everything. Looked petty easy to get the hang of.

I usually make the sugar mixture softer than that, and work with a white fabric (waxing strip) to pull off the hair. The technique is putting the sugar on the same direction with the hair growth, then put a strip on it -- leave it for 10 seconds, then take away the strip on the opposite direction (the hair will b pulled out)

Additional--- put a powder before the waxing process begin, it makes the hair pull out easier. The process isn't that painful, but yeah, its time consuming to do it your own :)

Experienced home sugar waxer here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ Trial ans error taught me everything I know. What I do is make my batch and when it cools down enough to be able to touch it, I kneed it until it turns to a golden color and I save it in a jar for when I am ready to use it. When I’m ready to use it, I microwave my jar for like 10 seconds and use like, a chopstick (lol, it’s the thing I had handy at the time) and use it to grab some sugar with it. I then kneed it some more and if I feel it’s too hard even after kneeding it, I add a LITTLE bit of water to it and kneed it until I feel it’s sticky and then I powder my arm/armpit/bikini area and proceed to wax. For the back of the forearm, I would recommend bringing your fist up to your neck, as though trying to lick your elbow. It’s a bit more comfortable waxing that way than to twist it around. 😅 Oh! One thing I actually just recently learned, it helps A LOT to let the wax ‘rest’ on you for a couple of seconds before pulling it off. I used to immediately apply the wax and pull it off but it wasn’t removing as much hair as I wanted so I tried that and it’s pretty efficient. Good luck everyone!

For sugaring you need to make it cold for hour orleave it over night then putit under then sun until it melt not over melt and then dry your skin by a towel then press the sugaring hard on your skin and pull it ooff after 5sec if its were so melt try to take of directly and while the sugaring is on press 2-3 time elongating the space then pull it of. Warn if the sugaring melt on your skin pull it out will unwanted towel but it will make some injury like pulling of the skin ,blood bleeding...etc

Actually I made it twice and I realized that after you're done making the wax, you should store it in a bowl in a dark place with the top covered with any foil or anything.. then it won't be very hard but kinda soft and better

Hey Tina, do try this recipe of sugar wax at home I have tried and loved it 1cup of sugar , 30 ml of water, 1 to 2 spoon of honey , lemon juice of 1whole lemon and some 2 to 4 petals of saffron which is optional. In a pan add sugar ,water and lemon juice heat it up and keep stirring when sugar melts down completely and started changing into brown color just add honey and saffron (do soak saffron petals in 1 to 2 spoon of water before adding ) now continuously stir till it reach to honey color and texture honey has. Switch off the stove. Do check its consistency, it should be like honey when it's hot but later when you cool it down its a little more concentrate than honey. After cooling it down for half an hour to hour you can use it as your regular hot wax with strips. But I must say its really amazing and its smoothness finish so good as you will forget to use any other hair honey wax. You can use either wax steamer or microwave it for 5 to 10 sec to heat up. Your friend and viewer from India with lots of love ❣❣❣❣ LAVIKA GERA

I do use sugar wax for my armpit. I do buy it ready to use from an Arab store. what you need to do is work it with your hands first (stretch it out) a few time until it changes color to a light orangey honey like color. It’s super efficient once you get used to it. 😃

You should check out Jazzybum’s sugar wax video from a few years back! It was very helpful for me! I also found that it can be easy to overcook which causes the wax to harden too much and not stick as well. Also I find that it’s easiest to use the paper strip method- it gets rid of more hair too. Love you!!! 💜💜

I tried this. And I did great on the first try. I used this on my bikini area and it felt super smooth almost like baby skin. But maybe it's also because I had prepared my skin before hand. I had scrubbed and dragged my hair using the wax with so much pressure so I won't have to do it again. It took longer for my hair to grew back than when I shaved. Overall I love this method ❤

This method has been used by north Africans and west asians (arabs) for thousands of years even Egyptians used it, it later spread to the rest of asia and Balkan countries It's really better than other waxing methods and doesn't cause skin damage unless it's applied hot If you want a better mixture and better results ask an Arab women or Arab hair stylists or follow an Arab recipe

I think a candy thermometer would be really useful if you plan on making more sugar wax. It’s just like candy. The hotter you cook the sugar, the harder it gets once it cools down. The color change in the “wax” is most likely due to how much you worked it and the air bubbles introduced into it. Next time, it’d be best to cook it to a lower temperature to get a softer caramel.

You seem to have cooked your sugar to more of a hard wax, cooking it less can help with texture. Using a thermometer can help in determining what the consistency of your wax will be. Also, in application just make sure your skin is dry and it is best to apply powder to remove any excess water on the skin after cleansing. When you apply the sugar, it's picks up more hairs if you push it on the skin more than once before you rip the wax off. Hope that helps!

That's the most well known method for hair removal here in the middle east. • You should be pulling against hair growth, not with it hehe. • the consistency of the sugar ball should be like a loose gum. Not too soft, but not too stiff. • scrubbing the skin prior sugar waxing or exfoliating gives better results. • you should take ur time in spreading it well to make sure it sticks to all the hairs well. Goodluck Tina !
