Listen you changed my whole life! I learned to make sugar wax from your original 'sugar wax for beginners' video almost two years ago. I used to have the worrrrrst, most irritated, painful skin on my legs from shaving. I have a combination of very thick coarse hair with quick hair regrowth, along with extremely sensitive skin underneath. I tried every type razor I could, hair removal creams, skin treatments, etc, but nothing worked for me. My skin would always bleed, react poorly, look a whole red spotted mess... and it was so painful! My skin would just HURT constantly. When I was a teenager I went to the dermatologist to seek help because it was so bad, and the doctor said there was nothing I could about it- she suggested that shaving against the grain was my best option (my hair is wayy too thick for that to accomplish anything, however, and it was also still quite irritating to my sensitive skin). Girl, I wish she had suggested sugar waxing! All these years later my routine is so much easier, healthier, eco-friendly/sustainable, and pain-free 🧚♀️ (Also therapeutic- working with plant matter is always so nice.) Can't thank you enough, but- thank youuuuuu 🗣

I tried actual skin waxed, not practicing making it (in pan, color, heat etc) way overcooked both times - too hot to see hair through the wax and it hurt. I’ll pull skin taught next time. I did it really good a couple strokes tonight after cstarch tho. ☝️🤗🤗 I have ave been binging your vids since, you’re great at it. I also just exfoliated tonight and did not use corn starch at first - that’s been it totally worked like a charm. I’ll try again for sure. Tip: it´s better to over cook that under cook, you can always fix overcooked sugar in an easier way. Even if you have it already in the jar, just add water and do the test again till you get it. I Find it easier, as the hot bubblig sugar syrup stage gives me anxiety (a very painful burn is possible during this stage).

i´ve realized that the more lemon you put (within the liquid amount required) 1. the darkest it will become, which doesn´t mean its actually done, it only means that that product will end darker, so 2. that´s something you can expect. The water method kinda helps to know if its ready or not, but it dilutes the mixture a little be and it´s not that accurate. betther to put a little drop in a cold surface and wait till it cools down and see the texture, if its hard to pick it at that time it will be hard to pick it and use later. i do this test while i have the hot sugar already in the container i will storage it in, if the test shows that it´s too hard i will add a little water to my sugar mixture and mix well, then try the cold surface method again til th consistency I need it. I hope it helps. I store it in the fridge always, otherwise I end with s syrup on top and a hard mass of sugar. if you keep it on the fridge i recommend to melt it a little before using it so it melts evenly. i use water bath method to melt it, you can use microwave aswell. (i live at sea level, in very hot climate, for reference)

TIp: If your sugar waxing is hard, all you have to do to “fix it” is reheat in the microwave and it will get a watery consistent and you can apply it when it cools down JUST A LITTLE onto your skin. And then you can peel it off and boom! P.s: Don’t wait to long to let it cool before you apply it on your skin cause it can revert back into the hard consistency.
@abetweene3 жыл бұрын

I did it!!!!! Again, lol. I took a break for a few years cause my results were too inconsistent and it was not worthwhile. But I did try testing it on the counter, like you suggested, instead of in the water, and I'm quite confident now. I have a list of things that happened if someone's interested: 1. I overcooked it a little as the test blob was a bit too hard for my liking. I added a tablespoon ish of water into the mixture while it was still very hot and stirred it (some time ago I made the mistake of putting way too much) 2. I put it in the fridge cause it's very hot and humid here rn, but it cooled down too much lol. A wax warmer did a really good job softening it up tho. I couldn't put it in a microwave cause my jar had metal wires around it. 3. The sugar came out light yellow/clear, and became literally white with use. I was used to a golden ish sugar before, but I switched up lemon with vinegar this time. 4. This is my main one. At first IT WASN'T STICKY AT ALL. I was about to be very disappointed BUT I kneaded it and had to really work it on my skin before it started to develope some stickyness. It was also very humid and my hands were sweaty so I had to do the whole thing inches away from my fan. Anyway the longer I worked with it the stickier it became, until I had to use strips or it wouldn't come off. It got to the point where even if I had a little sweat on my skin it would still adhere somewhat well and pull hair perfectly. 5. Putting the sugar in front of the fan also helped a lot with it sticking well. Anyway, doing it in the summer is such a pain lol. I would step away from the fan one second and my hands will start to feel wet lol. But it was worth it. I tried using store bought wax but it's just a sad experience for me. I get very irritated skin, my hair is still there or broken. I can't use a razor without getting ingrowns and pimples, I even started shaving with the grain but it just looks bad tbh. I have very fair skin and dark hairs. But now I can't see that mixture of red and black dots anymore and I'm so happy!

I'm so glad that this isn't expensive to make, because boy it has a learning curve. I made four batches of it. 1. was overcooked to the lollipop stage 2. usable but still too firm for my climate 3. Basically a syrup still 4. I tested this batch painstakingly but somehow still ended up being too firm. Oh well, I'm off to the store to buy some more lemon juice. I'm gonna get there eventually.
@abetweene Жыл бұрын
Tip: save your overcooked batches and just reheat them with some added water (1-3 tbsp depending how hard) to make them softer! doesn’t always work for hard carck/lollipop or burnt sugar, but will definitely help with that too firm stage!

I feel dumb asking this, but I'm still learning how to simplify this part of the process. Is there any way to know how long the paste should remain at the desired cooking temperature? I've gotten better about not overcooking it as much, but I still feel like my process of making strip sugar is so tedious because I'm still constantly testing. I've gotten better at the waxing part of the process, and I'm hoping the prep stages can also become more consistent. Thank you for presenting such well-articulated and still pretty information/images - I prefer sugar waxing over any other hair removal method. So glad I found you!

it doesnt need to remain at said temperature. just document the temp right before you test, then when you have your desired results, use that temp u documented previously for future batches.

Still going to share what i did, to make sugarwax to !use with cloth strips! I used the recipe in the description and cooked it constantly on 6/7 for 18min.(my stovetop has heat levels from 1-9) In the end the wax did not stick to my skin when cooled down, so i decide to heat it up slightly and use it with fabric strips. As I said worked out really well but it‘s just not suited for my skin.

What type of pot do you think works best!? Stainless steel, nonstick, or crusted enamel cast iron? Also thanks for the test test test video because I have followed precise instructions on temperature and color and succeeded on one batch out of about 10! I should’ve thought of this
@abetweene Жыл бұрын
whatever you have access to is fine; the best type would be a tall saucepan.

I watched this and a few others before doing a FULL BODY WAX for the first time, I’ll start off by saying I have very thick, dark and course hair every where and it was painful but I got through it and don’t expect to get every single hair if you have been shaving in the past since the hair growth isn’t the same. I had made 4 batches before it finally worked for me here’s what I did, Same recipe she used as far as sugar, lemon and wax however I did get a thermometer because it will help instead of guessing when to pull it also write down the temp so you know when to heat it for next time. ( I doubled the recipe just to make sure I had enough for my full body.) What worked for me is I did not stir when it started to boil, just let it brown on its own. I heated to 278 Fahrenheit ( temp will vary where you live, I live in the southwest) it was barely starting to caramelize and take it off the stove immediately! Check every 15 minutes to make sure it’s the consistency that you want and if it’s still runny put back on burner for 2 minutes or so keep a close eye because it can over cook. Then let it cool down until you can touch it, and then let the magic happen ✨ don’t put in the freezer or fridge because it may harden to fast and change the consistency. If it doesn’t work the first time don’t give up it’s totally worth it and you’ll be so happy with the results 😊 Thank you so much for the information and this video!

What kind of wax did you attempt to make? (Because 270F is a lot, I tried strip wax with temperature about 235F and it is undercooked, however this could be the right temperature so I am sad and I have 3 bottles of runny syrup :D
@abetweene2 жыл бұрын
you can just continue cooking the bottles u have now; that will burn off the excess liquid and make them firmer.

Thanks for the amazing video 😊 Would be glad if you can advice on two things: 1. I have long but fine/vellus facial hair all over the face. And slightly thicker hair at some places on my chin. I just bleach my hair currently. Do you suggest I sugar wax it? Afraid that vellus hair will grow back slightly thicker and I wont be able to bleach it later. 2. What type of wax should I use? Strip,soft,medium,hard?
@abetweene2 жыл бұрын
if youd like to, its safe to use sugar on the face and doesn’t make the hair regrow thicker or darker. soft is good 👍🏽

@@abetweene Thanks a lot for your reply 😊 When you say soft sugar wax, the consistency should be like the one which can be used with strip or the one which is moulded and flicked by hand? Which will be better for face?

either 😉

The corn starch goes on the skin before sugaring... Not in the sugar recipe

the cornstarch isnt used in the sugar paste itself, just on the skin before waxing 👍🏽

As Egyptian girl we use honey also with lemon to make the wax if you can't make it from sugar
@cerulleal2 жыл бұрын
I used to have a sugaring recipe that was half honey. It worked really well, smelled amazing, and seemed to be gentler on my skin than just sugar. Unfortunately, the recipe is long gone. Dear Egyptian sister, do you have a recipe or ratios for honey wax you could share?

The first time I did it was a fail (the color was honey like). The second one’s consistency was good. It can be used as a wax now😭 the second one has a clear color by the way and is far from the honey-like color, but it’s way better than the first.

Beyond grateful for you!! I started getting sugared a few years ago and fell in love with the results. During lock down I learned how to sugar myself but I'd always have to purchase a pre-made sugar paste and use gloves. I'm so happy to have gotten to learn from you how to make my own sugar wax AND to not have to keep using disposable gloves. Saving my $$$ and the planet! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thanks so much! My sugar wax melts when I'm using it. So after 10 - 15 minutes it's no longer useable. It makes the whole process more messy and frustrating than it needs to be. Should I just crank up the a/c?

Dear Ariane, Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge, much appreciated. I have a question, is there also a time request, like, does the sugar have to boil for a certain time at the desired temperature range or does it suffice if it just reaches the temperature and I immediately take the pan off the stove? Best regards, Mia
@abetweene Жыл бұрын
no there isnt a specific amount of time nor is should you rely on the temperature. testing in the beginning is a must. based your desired test results, you can use the documentated temperature for future batches.

Do I have to keep this HoMeade sugaring wax in refrigerator? How long til it goes bad ? Do I let it cool before pouring into plastic storage container? Or after ? Ty so much your amazing 🖤🥰😘I can’t wait to try it ! Cooking now ! I have KP & sensitive ass skin so I need a new alternative
@jadielessa98583 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering my question!! But I have a new doubt... While testing the paste, and removing the pan from the heat, doesn't the water evaporation from the residual heat create a different result? And also, when I get the final temperature, will it still be accurate after dropping a few degrees every time I turn the stove off? Hope my poor English doesn't get in the way of your understanding!
@abetweene3 жыл бұрын
While the pan is removed from the heat, the temperature actually drops. since it’s not actively cooking the water is not being boiled off/evaporated so no significant changes are occurring. Rememeber, the temperature youre referencing is the one you recorded right before taking the sample, not after.

Do you have any tips or techniques to get finer hairs? I’ve been watching a lot of your content (and I love it) on how to get the preferred texture of wax. I just have a hard time waxing off the finer hairs which are mostly 5mm at times. My armpit hairs are fine too, so I only ever manage to pull a couple of strands.
@abetweene3 жыл бұрын
removing fine hair is really a matter of using the right paste so sugar thats very firm wont work. you need soft or strip sugar. Hair thats too short on the other hand is a matter of length because a minimum of 1/4” is required for the sugar to get a good grip.
