It bothers me that people think this type of diet is cheaper than a plant based diet. I’m a college student and i budget $30 for food a week and eat vegan. 90% of my groceries are produce, and I refuse to buy things like cereal, snack foods, and processed foods because of how expensive they are.

I enjoy your videos, but I really don’t think you’re in the position to speak on certain issues that you mentioned. I do think it’s important to raise awareness of the mental health issues many college students face, but correct me if I’m wrong, you don’t seem to be in the type of position where you have a lack of funds to provide yourself with healthier options of food/produce and that’s something that also needs to be recognized. There are so many issues where students are placed in a position where they’re not able to afford even any food and many end up suffering from food insecurity, I think it’s important to recognize that instead of choosing to go on a small rant about Ashley’s food choices.
@alexandrafitzpatrick1655 жыл бұрын
Char exactly!!! It’s very clear Angelina is coming from a place of socioeconomic privilege as well (not that that’s inherently a bad thing, ofc) and it’s easy to forget how hard it is for poor people to eat well
@sageycat10285 жыл бұрын
I think it goes beyond that. As a college student, I can say not only do you suffer from lack of money for food, but you also suffer from the stress, lack of motivation, and depression that comes from college as well. Imagine spending 10+ hours on studying/going to classes (which is VERY normal for most college kids) then having to cook a whole dinner. Not to mention having to go out and buy all the ingredients you need. Most of us simply do not have the time or motivation to do that. We have to eat what’s in our uni’s cafe or whatever we have in our cupboard. People don’t realize the mental state college puts you in. It sucks literally everything out of you. Sometimes you just have to eat a bowl of sugar to get through your day.

Anna Jacobs Great insight! I definitely agree!
@charlenee275 жыл бұрын
A. Shay In order for things to be heard correctly, they need to coming from a voice that has experienced those things. People like her have not experienced food insecurity or lack of funds for food so it’s difficult to get your point across if you’re only providing an insight from what you are observing.
@charlenee275 жыл бұрын
A. Shay I do think it’s important to speak on the issues she mentioned wholeheartedly, but it’s one thing to only highlight certain issues people face and not the actual reality of things and that’s sadly, one of the things I saw lack of in her final rant. Again, this is just how I saw things and mean no disrespect to her. I think if you’re wanting to talk about issues students face, you need to be open to hearing the larger details you missed as well.

if you watch more of her videos, you can see that she eats more vegetables and more intricate dinners. i feel like when you changed up her meals, you ruined a lot of it. you had her breakfast for dinner and dinner for lunch... her dinners are a lot more healthy than what you portrayed them to be.

Talking about how little she ate and how unhealthy it was in assumption for your own content isint fair. I think part of Ashley’s appeal is her real ness while still being super kick ass. Also she’s a fashion lifestyle KZbinr not a nutritionist and I feel bad and think this might affect her

Charlotte McLaren I literally love her and her videos. I’ve seen a few comments like this and don’t really understand where people got the idea I was bashing her diet or lifestyle. I was rather commenting on the fact that higher education doesn’t allow for their to be a priority placed on physical and mental health. It’s not Ashley’s or the students’ fault, but rather a bigger issue. People want me to share my opinions and how I feel after following these diets, so this is simply me sharing how I felt and what I thought about it! I’m being real as well

I loved this video! I just went through freshman year and while I tried to eat healthy it was basically impossible. I had no access to a kitchen and I had to rely on either eating out or eating dining hall food. The main foods are PACKED with sodium I guess for preservation reasons. And the stuff from the salad/fruit bars were so extremely overpriced compared to all the other foods, so you would run into the risk of almost running out of meal plan money. It was awful. Even if kids have access to kitchens they, like Ashley, probably have no time to use them. And to all the people in the comments complaining about her lack of produce: having a ton of produce is hard for anybody because if you don’t have a plan for what you’re gonna use it for, it will go to waste. College kids have no time to plan meals and we often eat things out of convenience. Those cereals and breads last much longer and are easier for us to maintain, no matter how bad it may feel. Angelina, I think your commentary was spot on!

But i agree with you!!!!! the education system is so ridiculous. i think we need to be taking less about STD's and more about how to freaking fuel the BODY TO BE A HEALTHY HUMAN. CMON NOW!!!!! I definitely agree with you about the college part. I'm a full time college student and I work part time, and the past 2 years I've made it a priority to despite all that, still go to the gym 5 times a week and eat relatively healthy (I'm vegan as well and I live in France so like there aren't that many options for junk vegan food so the eating healthy part has been the easiest). Balancing everything is so hard, and I'm sure that if I didn't put so much effort into working out and eating healthy, I would have more money, and more time to work on my uni stuff etc. I'm an avarage student when I know I could get far better grades. However I've decided to put my mental and physical health on the same level of priorities as my college work and job. And maybe I could get better grades and be a better employee if I didn't, but I'd much rather have it this way than just feel like crap all the time because I don't take care of myself, and find myself with a terrible health at 25. Believe me it's still hard and I have a mental breakdown once a week, I'm human, but it's so worth it because I feel physically and mentally stronger than I ever have!

this is such a normal way of eating when ur in college though, and I don't think Its ur responsibility to give ur 2 cents on her diet and lifestyle. everyone's bodies react differently to different diets so I don't see why its necessary for you to talk about her like u know her. great for u that u have ur own diet and eating habits perfected (I mean that genuinely) but I just don't get why you felt the need to comment so much about It. It is so hard when you're in college to eat the way that you personally do, so you saying all that stuff about how she eats honestly made me feel badly about myself, and I did not find It educational whatsoever, I found It more judgmental. I believe you have good intentions but you lack in delivery.
@angelinanicollle5 жыл бұрын
amalia stambler I wasn’t criticizing her diet, I was addressing the issue that being in university often causes students to put their physical and mental health at the bottom of their priorities to no fault of their own simply because being a college student is so stressful and demanding. I’m not exactly sure where you got the idea that I was bashing her diet. In addition, since making these videos a lot of people have asked me to express how the diet made me feel for a day and to actually give my two cents on it, because a lot of people’s what I eat in a day videos aren’t necessarily promoting a healthy diet which can be dangerous for young girls who watch and follow and could be easily influenced. Not saying Ashley is at all doing that, she’s simply being honest and sharing her lifestyle, not really promoting it at all or claiming it’s healthy, but anyways, just wanted to clarify.

Amanda De La Torre I’m going to blatantly say, your comment is pretty ignorant. You’re ignoring the fact that millions of students in the US suffer from hunger because of lack of funds and food insecurity. I don’t think you’re in the any sort of position to make such statements.
@charlenee275 жыл бұрын
I felt like I noticed this as well, I have seen most of her other “what I eat in a day” videos and noticed she had no other comments about other KZbinr’s eating habits. In her Emma Chamberlain video, for example, she consumed an excessive amount of coffee. With all do respect if she were concerned about younger girls being influenced by these sort of videos, she should have mentioned something about the coffee consumption as well, but sadly, we did not see that. There seems to be some type of bias she has towards the eating habits of college students but seems to be perfectly fine with having 16 year old consume excessive amounts of caffeine.

Elizabeth Carr she probably does, when she’s able to , but a healthy organic diet is ridiculously expensive to maintain. We really ought to address issues with food costs in this country especially fro younger and lower class people
@lizcarr63295 жыл бұрын
Alexandra Fitzpatrick I mean you don’t have to eat organic to be healthy, but okay. I don’t eat organic, I eat healthy and vegan and I’m a full time student who lives in Canada where tax is twice is high as most states. It’s about prioritizing health rather than material items. Obviously poverty is also an issue, but I don’t think it really is for this girl with a KZbin channel with 1.5 million subs so.
@alexandrafitzpatrick1655 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth Carr she does also pay LA rent, although I will say in her case it’s likely what Angelina mentioned about her being busy. But going beyond Ashley, the issue does boil down to poverty. Veganism is to be perfectly blunt not very accessible for most people, even outside of eating organic. I don’t mean to offend you, but I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume you come from some sort of class privilege (middle to upper class), so obviously even though you live in a highly taxed area you have more resources at your disposal. The being too busy to make health a top priority is (not in Ashley’s case but I’d say in most cases) a working class/poor issue. It’s hard to care about what you’re eating when you have to worry about having enough to make rent-you’ll just eat whatever
@lizcarr63295 жыл бұрын
Alexandra Fitzpatrick I would say I’m middle/working class. I work for my money, I budget, I don’t spend frivolously. I spend a fraction of what my non-vegan friends spend on groceries so idk about that sis.
@alexandrafitzpatrick1655 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth Carr first of all, your vague shaming about budget is. Yikes at best hon. There’s a lot of reasons someone could not budget out enough for healthy and\or vegan foods. you do also realize vegetables/fruits tend to go bad faster and people who work long hours/multiple jobs (read: poor people) and even students don’t have time to cook and will generally gravitate towards foods that are quicker/won’t go bad as fast such as pastas, frozen foods, and cereals? Again, in Ashley’s case I imagine that she’s just busy (not that that’s somehow invalid but it’s unlikely to be a money issue), but the myth that everyone is able to find the time to cook healthy meals/go vegan is pretty goddamn classist
