I absolutely love this video. Sarai, you both showcased the problem-solving inherent to our craft(s) and also the joy of making a garment that marries multiple creative interests and skill sets. After watching this video, I used the Design Your Wardrobe framework to create a sewing collection that included patch-worked pieces with beloved fabric and some embroidered linen sewing projects. MORE OF THIS. I LOVE IT! Thank you for all your thoughtful, beautifully considered work.

The embroidery is absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing! I also recently made a white linen shirt and made the mistake of using blue tailors chalk. I thought my shirt was ruined forever and blamed myself for the “rookie” mistake. Your sharing made me feel less guilty and have a bit more grace for myself.

It was a good reminder to me to always check my marking tools on my fabric first! It was a tense moment but I was relieved that the markings eventually came out. Mistakes happen to everyone, so giving yourself grace is so important.

Bravo! I would love to see your ideas for adding trim--especially tatted, tiny knitted, or crocheted; or readymade vintage trims--to garments. I love to make tiny trims by hand but am unsure how to use them tastefully for grown-up fashion.

This is one of the best tutorials that I’ve seen for adding embroidery when sewing a garment. When transferring a design, those heat pencils really aren’t the best choice. I prefer to trace the pattern directly to the fabric with a blue or black washable pen. Crayola washable markers or pilots frixion pens work great. DRITZ or PRYM make very fine point blue water erasable pens that are nice as well. They also make a peel and stick water soluble paper that you can draw the design on and then place directly on the fabric.

This is gorgeous! I love the motif you chose for the embroidery and the white on white is so beautiful. Red is often the most difficult color to remove from fabric, even my pink Sewline pencil can resist removal. Maybe try tracing the design on the fabric using a window or lightbox and a water-erasable marker. Thank you for this video and for including your adorable cat 😍

This is so beautiful! I love the motif you chose, and the knots tied the whole thing together perfectly (pun not intended, but it works here haha). I love the white on white look for subtle detail. I might just try this on a double gauze project I have been procrastinating from, definitely will need to test it because I'm not sure how much structure double gauze will provide 🤔

It's lovely Sarai! The whitework is so subtle and beautiful! I love adding embroidery to my makes, it really personalises them, so I'm here for more like this! A tip for next time, you can get wash away embroidery paper. It's thin enough to use as tracing paper, and sticks like a sticker to your fabric. And then it washes away under the tap like magic. Sulky sticky fabri-solvy stabiliser. You can even run it through the printer if you have purchased a digital design. Or DMC apparently make Magic Paper that is the same sort of thing.

Thank you so much for this. I also tend to wear more muted, solid colours while also liking some texture, but had thought embroidery would be far too complicated. Thanks for the tips and warnings. You showed that you cut large squares of fabric to put in the hoop, so my one concern would be wasting material - is it possible to lay out the pattern pieces closely (as usual), keeping the ones to be embroidered away from the edges, and then to mark them all on the fabric and do the embroidery before doing any cutting, or is there a risk of damaging adjoining pieces with the hoop?
@SeamworkVideo
@SeamworkVideo Жыл бұрын
I think it might depend on your fabric and how delicate it is, but in general it would probably be fine to do it that way.
