As one of your older viewers (I’m 66) this video brought back memories of my mum using rags to make ringlets in my hair as a child. After washing, she’d use the rags, then in the morning I’d have ringlets which I ran my hands though to soften. It was really comfy to sleep in too and no bed head!

YES. I have so many memories of sitting in the RV the night before a wedding, holding one end of a rag on my head while my mom worked, often explaining to another mom how to do it. Big family, lots of cousins, lots of weddings. Mom had both her younger girls in perfect ringlet curls without ever waiting for an open bathroom or even a power outlet. I might have to ask her to teach my husband how to do it. It would be fun to do again.

My favourite technique for heatless curls is putting my damp hair in a rope braid (the one with two strands where you twist each strand clockwise and twist them together counter clockwise or vice-versa). It gives me beautiful loose waves and it's so easy and quick to do, I feel it deserves more recognition.

Love your videos. I learn so much from them. Just a note, the polka dotted tiny roller that you didn't like comes vacuum sealed for shipping. You are supposed to leave them out for a few hours to puff back out before using them. The curl ends up much like a foam roller and they are MUCH more comfortable to sleep in than foam rollers.

I'm another vintage hairstyle fan. After seeing this, I'm going to try out foam rollers. What size would you recommend for getting the 50s vintage curls? I'm a long time pin curl user, and the way I've always seen it done and the way I've always done it is to wind your hair around your fingers starting from the bottom, remove your fingers, and then roll it up to your scalp. It makes for a neater curl than what is done here. Once you've brushed it out, the end result is beautiful.
@17thcentury_girl2 жыл бұрын
@@angelicasmodel for roller size it all depends on how curled you want your hair. For a typical 1950s hairstyle I'd recommend between a small and a medium. I do that method for pin curls too. also, using straws is amazing because you can build curlers to your own perfect diameter by bundling different amounts! if one straw produces too tight a curl for your liking, bundle four, five, six etc and get a more voluminous curl! they're also totally reusable and don't absorb any moisture, so your hair will dry a little more quickly and you won't risk unrolling a soggy curler in the morning.

Braids are my go-to for everyday waves. Easy to throw into a bun with claw clips, adding accents to pre-existing styles, and various other styles. Braids are a category of styling all their own tbh. I use the curl formers (#1) when I do my wife's hair on occasion. They are super easy to use and come in different lengths. To make using them easier slide the sleeve on the rod first then hook the hair and pull the rod out of the sleeve. Also I find it easier to do small sections of hair as the larger sections tend to be extremely hard to pull through the sleeve.

As someone with long, stick straight, fine hair with almost no volume, the best hair hack I’ve found over the years is to blow it almost dry with some kind of volumizing spray and then twist it into a bun at the back of the crown and let it finish drying on its own. Gives it some volume and waviness. I really wish, I had known this trick while I was in school, could’ve totally skipped all the heat styling that never held up through the day anyway!

I love the satin tube thing, the cons are it can make a weird dent in the hair on the top and it's maddening if you're a side sleeper. Also, the first one makes beautiful curls, but I feel like it causes breakage at the crown and you might just be better off using a good heat protectant spray with a curling iron.

My favorite method, and not shown, is wrapping your hair around a bun form (I even use a satin covered one). Because its on top of your head, you can sleep in any position. Pulling hair through the bun center elevates the roots, preventing against the head creases and easing tension on your scalp. I'd post the tutorial that introduced me to the idea, but that seems tacky, lol Love to see Brad experiment with using bun forms to do heatless curls!

I use a pair of leggings! Put the crotch part on the top of your head kind of like you’d do with that TikTok product. Wrap both sides of your hair, and then you can pull the waistband down over the whole thing to create a cap/bonnet situation. I love how the curls turn out, and it helps with frizz too. Or doing French/Dutch braids.

I second the leggings!!! They work SO WELL and there’s no need to use a bonnet or scarf overnight. I like my leggings curls more than heat styled curls!

I have done the sock method quite a few times and it has never failed me except when I forgot to hairspray after unwrapping it. I totally recommend it and I honestly prefer it over products that I have bought because it doesn't get stuck unlike the products I have used especially the ones with the brissles.

The most effective heatless curl for me is my dressing gown tie, don't have to pay for any separate accessories. I bought the rod to try it but nowhere near as good as how my hair turned out with my dressing gown. Love you, Brad! Need your bro back on to do some more hairstyles. You're both great 👍 x

I came to this video angry... thank you for cheering me up Brad. I don't even like to do alot with my hair and am not in all this girly stuff, but I really like your energy. Watching this really calmed me down and made me smile. Thank you! Much love from Switzerland

Not sure if this is something you'd be interested in doing, but I'd love it if you did a full video/tutorial on the headband one. I just bought it for myself (bc I'm low maintenance and it's easy lol) and I love it! It's so comfy, and for once a heatless curl actually stayed in my hair longer than a day. The problem is, I have thin, fine hair that gets weighed down and flattened easily. No matter what I do, I struggle getting volume on top of my head at the root, especially with overnight products like this. If you could give some tips on the best way to wrap it around the headband for maximum top volume, to match the beautiful voluminous curls on the bottom, I would appreciate it so so much. 💕

I have long hair and I love the rag curl. I have found using a scrunchy and wrapping hair sections around scrunchy and securing with large Bobby pin. Let dry, remove and waa laa. Beautiful curls.

I use a curling rod headband every single night! Not only does it curl my hair nicely, but also helps with the frizz! I have a very soft one and it's perfect for sleeping. My previous one was stiff and that one sucked

The spiral thing is called a curlformer and they're easier to use if you assemble the hook and push the whole thing through the form beforehand and then hook the hair to pull through. To get it trough smoother it's a good idea to squish the silicon at the end so it's open, same when removing the hair from the form. Those curls last a LONG time, even for people with teflon hair like mine. They can be an absolute workout to get all the hair in since they will brutally reject too large sections of hair into a painful mess, so no cheating when the arms get tired. Still, absolutely worth the effort.

I love that you included a braid. I do it ALLLL the time when don't feel like blow drying before bed. I can make those waves last three days, sometimes more. Everyone is always shocked and asks how I did it. LOVE a braid wave. I really need to get my hands on that dang curl headband I keep seeing everywhere. I've only found it for bonkers prices, but every household item is a pale imitation

I bought the tik tok big head rod a few days ago and have used it twice, I have long thick wavy hair. I'm terrible with hair styling and was skeptical but omg I'm obsessed. I get gorgeous thick curls I can't stop looking at my hair. They cost less than £10 where has it been my whole life.

I never used any of these but what I’ve been doing for years is just simply split my hair into two pieces and twist it on itself and just leave to dry and I get beautiful amazing curls. It’s so simple and takes absolutely no time and no other product whatsoever, it’s perfect.

I french braid two sides of my hair at night, wear them for 2/3 days with a silk wrap at night, then take the braids out and have a curly day or two. Super easy and great for me as a chronically ill person as if I'm ill one day I literally don't have to worry about my hair at all.

The third one you used is called a spoollie. These were used back in the 1950's. I remember having them hanging & bouncing whenever you moved. Can't believe they made a comeback.

Literally me trying to do/style my extensions all the time falling off the hangers out of the dresser, etc.. The struggle is real! I love you Brad. Not gonna lie. I really do wish you tried these without the wave tech because now I don’t know if it’s because of your amazing product or because of the heatless curl technique

My go-to heatless curls for years has been a soft satin headband(or better yet a soft satin hankie/scarf) worn around the crown of my head. Start at the front with a small section of hair, adding more as you wrap toward the back then secure with satin scrunchies. Super comfy to sleep in n it gives great voluminous curls in the morning I also use a hankerchief, drape it down both sides of my head(similar to the tiktok rod method) n instead of simply wrapping, i braid small sections around the hankie n wake up with tighter curls than simply wrapping. Also super comfy to sleep in

This reminded me so much of putting curlers (the sponge ones and Velcro ones) into my granny’s hair for her! When I was little she taught me how to do these. She was a lady who took so much pride in her appearance right up to the end of her life and she died when she was almost 100 years. She would have just loved seeing this video!!!!!! It brought back so many happy memories for me. My granny did her hair with curlers all her days from the 1930s - she was born in 1920. A loving legend and I have seen photos of her glamorous night out look when she was young. Looked like a film star 😂❤🙏🏻 thank you for creating this video, I love it. Inspired to try some of these and inspired to actually get some of the sponge curlers for old times sake! ❤

The straw thing is recommended for refreshing the curls of those old My Little Ponies with the long ringlets. Of course after it's pinned (bobby pin over hair and into the straw on both ends) you dip it into boiling water to set. Next week, on but I didn't ask, Nana, how to knit backwards.

Braaaaaaad! Wet sets have to be brushed a lot and shaped into what you're after. So the pillow rollers (the b&w polka dot things) are perfect - and super comfortable. Foam rollers and pincurls are good too. Marilyn pincurled and then brushed her hair into those big waves. Those things will give you anything from Rita Hayworth to Veronica Lake - it's in the cut and how you brush it out. I'd really like to see you get into vintage hairstyling - it's fun!

I’ve been wanting to try a heartless curler lately!! After this think I’m gonna try the second style. I love the curly curly 😍😍. I use to have spiral curly hair/waves but after having 2 kids my hair has fallen really wavy!! 😣😣 definitely wanna try this out!

When I was a kid, my mom used old bed sheets cut into strips of about 1-1 1/2 inches by 5-6 inches. You wrap small sections of hair around the center like a you would a curler than tie the ends in place to hold. These were more comfortable to sleep on and were cheap.
