As a yoga instructor, yoga is very personal. Everyone looks different, feels different things, and takes away different things. Also, people who are the least flexible tend to have the biggest benefits of yoga. People like me who are hypermobile can actually experience and exaggerate injuries or create injuries. So being a less than flexible person, you would likely see amazing things with a consistent yoga practice.

Paula Jean yes! yoga is tends to be overlooked but is so beneficial as you get older!

Paula Jean is yoga better for flexibility than just stretching? can I do yoga after strength training?
@paulajean45405 жыл бұрын
@@vilw511 I think so, depending on the style as was highlighted in this video. The dynamic moving between poses helps slowly warm up smaller muscles before engaging larger muscles in deeper stretches... I least that is how I structure my classes. I also focus on moving the body through all planes so that your joints are moving and stretching in ways that you may not if you are just stretching. I think the most important part is to find an instructor that you like and can connect with their style. I love a 15 minute yoga after strength training. I've actually done seminars for powerlifters and strongman athletes on the value of yoga in their sports. Helps keep everything moving and aids in recovery

Paula Jean good to hear! I am hypermobile too and was thinking if starting yoga(I did tons of taichi before I got sick) but maybe that will not be the best choice then. Arial yoga looked awesome to me as I was a very intense weightlifting training but now with ME i cannot do sports anymore.

So glad you had a good experience! Just wanted to drop a tiny bit of advice since you plan on continuing with hot yoga. Hot yoga can be dangerous if the proper precautions aren’t taken. 1) Please stay hydrated before practicing any hot yoga. It’s extremely dehydrating. 2) Feel free to step out of the room if the heat becomes overwhelming. Some teachers and students have this idea that you should just “stick it out” even if you’re feeling sick, but please ignore them. Listen to your body. If you don’t cool down when overheated or suffering heat exhaustion, you can potentially suffer a heat stroke. 3) Be hyper-attentive to your body. I noticed you said that hot yoga made you feel like you were more flexible. This is a common sentiment and part of the reason why people love Bikram. HOWEVER, and this is super important to note, in high temperatures your body sometimes doesn’t register signals that you need to stop. You can tear a ligament or overstretch them to the point where they are unable to support your joints as intended. In yoga we practice something called Sthira Sukham Asanam. Sthira and Sukham are opposites, Sthira meaning strong and stable and Sukham meaning comfortable and relaxed. Find the balance between both in your postures (Asanam). Listen to your body.

Fabletics customer service is one of the worst I have ever dealt with. I liked the leggings I got but they weren’t the right size. Every time I tried to get them exchanged the people I was on chat with kept ending the chat with me. Time after time. Then I’d get an email asking how the chat went and I would tell them and they would say sorry you need to go on chat or call us. I finally got it to work but it’s been stressful and taken up a lot of time trying to get it to work. So people in the comments be aware of that! The leggings are nice though.

I do wish they moved slower though, the 3 classes I've been too all move super fast. If you find a different beginner class and want to go again, that handstand pose you showed is one of the easiest. Once you get the confidence to let the silk take your weight it's super easy and fun!

I have done yoga for over three years now and i can whole heartedly say that yoga isn't about flexibility. you aren't meant to push yourself into poses, it's about being mindful and finding what feels good for your body (which means making adjustments if you have trouble or uncomfortable in certain poses) the idea of yoga and flexibility is because the more you do yoga the more flexible you become. I have proof of this since 3 years ago I couldn't even touch my toes and now I can reach even further than that! yoga. is. amazing. If you haven't already I highly recommend checking out Yoga With Adriene's youtube channel because that's where I started 3 years ago on a 30 day journey that she was doing. There is actually a 30 day journey called home going on right now, and I think it's a good challenge to take on for the new year. namaste 🙏

So happy you loved hot yoga! I used to do it 5 days a week for 6 months and noticed my persistent back pain disappear, I felt so much healthier and effortlessly lost a lot of extra weight. Not to mention met a lot of lovely people at classes. For me it was one of those habits that was easy to stick with since I actually enjoyed it! Recently had a back injury (unrelated to yoga!) & cannot wait to get back to the studio!

Aerial yoga is where it’s at for me. I do it every Saturday morning and it’s become my church. It’s amazing when you get strong enough to get in to some of the harder inversions.

So glad you had such a positive experience and remained open-minded the whole time! I am a yogi and one of the things that I love and think is so special about yoga is that environment of positivity and kindness towards yourself and your body, and really taking the poses in the class and making them fit what your body and mind need on that particular day.

My mom does aerial yoga and hoops (she is 59 and absolutely insane). I'm way too scared and definitely would be worried doing it for the first time with wood underneath. Her studio has padded flooring but she also does what she calls 'tree yoga', which is aerial outside with the hammocks in the trees at our city's arboretum. It's super granola.

Hot yoga is my favorite! First off I hate the heat but hot yoga is such a good time. You feel like you get a real workout, you don't feel as sore because you're extra stretchy in the heat, and your mind is completely focused on one thing. Never had another class where I felt like that.

My favorite yoga is something called sound therapy yoga! If you find a class near you it’s incredible! Definitely worth a try. 💕 you rock Sierra!

Love how you push yourself outside your comfort zone💕 I started doing yoga last year in April and I absolutely love it (P.S. I am very unflexible as well, but it gets better, promise...🙈)

I have been practicing yoga for 8 years. Each person is different but I feel Hatha yoga is best for beginners. I practice Vinyasa and also do an inversion class. A tip for anybody wanting to try an aerial class, make sure to wear layers as the silk can hurt a lot when rubbing on bare skin.

Havent watched yet but I'm so glad you're trying hot yoga! I have some back problems and hot yoga has helped so much with pain management and increasing flexibility and range of motion. AHHH I hope you love it 💕

Also we need yoga updates maybe once the 30 day pass is up do another video and tell us any changes you noticed from going. I really liked your soul cycle video too. Although I'm not at a fitness level for that I feel like I could try yoga and ease my way into it.

Soooo I do aeriel yoga and I am a size 16/18. I absolutely love it. There are a few adjustments I have had to make to fit with the fact I have more weight pushing on the hammock (obvs) but it has enabled me to slowly gain arm and core strength. It honestly sounds like you did not have a good teacher/ class because an inverted backbend to a headstand should nooootttt be in a beginners class. I think perhaps you should have looked for a fundamentals class? My studio doesn't allow anyone into even lvl 1 without the fundamentals teacher approving the move up. My fundamentals teacher has been so supportive and educational. The first lesson I was EXTREMELY nervous about inversions because well I ain't no skinny minny, but she came over and guided me through it and helped me flip. In the second class I did the 3 inversions and flips by myself! It was super empowering and is actually really good for those with knee or shoulder/ arm issues because a lot of pressure is off of your knees and arms. I have a bad shoulder and my teacher makes sure that any twists we have to do go the other way because I have restricted movement in that bad arm. This comment is really long but yeh if you try aerial yoga again I would recommend a fundamentals class.

So u just show us the outfit & going in & out from there then talk about your experience, i understand that there is other ppl there but i wished to see you actually doing the moves, etc.

Go you for being plus size and going to any yoga class. I always had the impression that I was too big to do yoga. I've now been practicing for 3 years and it's awesome to have other plus size people come up to me and tell me how nice it is to have someone like them in the room. I have the practice to much that I'm also a yoga teacher in hopes of encouraging all body types to do yoga. I keep my classes on a rotation of teachers so I don't get bored and so I'm always learning something new.

I’m super unflexible by nature ahah I did gymnastics for 6 years and can’t even touch my toes on most days. I’ve been doing hot yoga for a month now and I LOVEEEEE it!!! It makes me feel so good when I leave and I get a good sweat

Aerials or aerial yoga is really great and you don't necessarily need any prior experience to do stuff. A lot of classes don't require any prior knowledge of anything yoga related. It's really great and I think everyone should try it at some point! (Also the hammock itself can be pretty claustrophobic but other apparatuses like the silk itself, trapeze, hoop/lyra, etc aren't claustrophobic at all)

Vinyasa is my go to because I like moving through the poses. My favorite class is a warm (not hot) vinyasa flow...it is in a warm room but not overly hot so it loosens your muscles a little. Vinyasa is also different every time-the poses and flow changes from one class to the next.
