Emmalyn because the soap does stuff to it so it isn’t dangerous. It’s really confusing you just have to pay really close attention to her explanations.
@swoonscapades5 жыл бұрын
@Emmalyn - Safiya sort of answers that at the beginning by explaining how soap is made. Lye ON ITS OWN is dangerous, but when it's mixed with oils, it is (on a chemical level) changed into something that isn't dangerous through a process called Saponification. Chemistry is so fascinating ♡
@kibaonlylovesme5 жыл бұрын
Emmalyn Saponification turns the oil and lye into fatty acid salts (soap) and alcohol. So, by the end of the process, there is no more lye and no danger.

I've watched this so many times and I still cannot fathom how they couldn't tell just how much they were overmixing it. This is probably way harder than it looks so I'm not trying to drag Safiya, but man, that batter was VERY visibly thick, and then they kept blending anyway

The thing i love about safiya is that she gives us the whole process involved in making these videos from the research to the final product and doesn't say "to find out what happens next wait until the next week " . This fact about her videos makes me go through all of her longgg videos without skipping a second . I really love your content saf . Keep making these amazing videos. ❤❤❤❤
@lisa-m-jennings5 жыл бұрын
I make soap for my living. I am such a huge fan of Saf so this was exciting to see and I was rooting for her bigtime. There is no doubt you mixed too long the first batch. Also 120 degrees is a bit too hot to soap at if you are wanting to do intricate swirls like those in Ann Marie's video. I would recommend you soap at room temperature to make sure you have a thin trace throughout so you have plenty of time to work with the batter. You did indeed pour your batter a bit slow as well. You really have to work fast if you are going to do a fancy design like the one you wanted. These are the reasons why the technique was listed as advanced. I made the same exact mistake my first batch and ended up with the dreaded "soap on a stick" you got as well. It is a learning experience and takes a lot of time but it is really fun and worth it. I have been doing it for 5 years now and absolutely love my job. I think considering this was her first attempts Saf did a fantastic job and as a soaper I appreciate how you highlighted the safety aspects in soaping. Keep it up Saf you will make the perfect loaf one day and it will be incredibly satisfying. :)

i have a question for you then. its been going around by experts and the like that soap isnt actually necessary to get things clean (hands/body, i guess they mean nothing particularly hardstuck like oil) is water truly enough? cause the explanation makes it seem like you’ll get a cleaner clean with soap.

@brittanynichole59705 жыл бұрын
Yea, you can't just melt them and mix them together and have it look nice. Cold process soap doesn't work like that. It may be possible to rebatch them into one soap, but it's honestly not worth the time and effort, plus it wouldn't look good either. Itd be better to just buy all the lush fragrance dupes, mix them together and add it to new soap batter. That would give the same result as to what it would smell like if they were all combined. The soap color itself would just come out looking like some shade of purple or brown, so no point in wondering what color it would create.

Unfortunately handmade soaps don't 'melt'... 😭 BUT they can be shaved down and combined to make re-batch soap! The process is long and it really depends on which ones are cold-process soap and which are melt-and-pour soaps but you do end up with a ready to use soap with no cure time. All you need to do is let the water used during the re-batch process evaporate a bit from the final product!
