The scores are not just for hygiene/dirty. You could have a place spotless and clean and still only get a 2 or 3 because they haven't kept paperwork up to date like recording temperatures or not including proper use by dates or allergens.

The first three stars are for hygiene. The last two are for paperwork and building maintenance. Any where with less than three I wouldnt touch with a barge pole

Agreed it could account for building and records, I had a place that had paint flaking from the corners and lost a star because of it even tho it was the other end of the prep and cooking part but I learned a lot that day sorted the problem then got five stars back after about 6 months

​@@chrisleigh8989how can a sink be in a wrong place?, the owner can't really move sinks because better plumbed in, like toilets, the councils needs to get a life sometimes, I use to work somewhere and my boss got a 4 apparently because the sink wasn't in the right place but where the sink is where it always was and the last owner got 5 stars and the sink is still in the same place!!, some of the food hygiene people makes stuff up because we went online to search it up and it said its not nothing mager!!!

why uneducated people do videos like this and morons comment on them baffles me. You have no idea about the hygiene ratings system involves. They're NOT there to reflect the quality of the food served, Michelin star restaurants have five star ratings I have a burger van that has a five star rating. They are merely for paperwork and to make sure everything behind the scenes is correct and up to date. So just because an establishment has'nt got a five star rating means it's dirty ad disgusting is bullshit @@EdChapman23

i work in an indian takeaway and yeah sometimes its not always the cleanliness of the business if could be things like cracked floor tiles in the kitchen and door hinges falling off, exposed electrical cables also in the kitchen. yes alot of them are about cleanliness as they should be! the place i work at got scored a 1 only for a few weeks but it really affected their business since then, and this was 5 years ago.

the burger place at 3:16 looked actually pretty good, and the reason it "looked stepped on" was because its a smash burger, a type of burger that is flattened on the grill to crisp up the edges.

I actually ate at an Indian restaurant apparently given a 0 or a 1, as I found out googling them while reading the menu as the place looked okay from the outside. They must've turned the place around a bit since this happening four months ago but was very risky for the first night's meal on a weekend far from home with an event the next day lol

Worth noting too that the rating isn't just hygiene, it's also confidence in the management. I learnt that if the manager argues about something with the inspector, it's an automatic 1. My local Chinese which I worked as a driver for was immaculately clean, but had a rating of 1. They had to compete against it and then got a 5...the place received a 1 literally because the owner argued with the inspector about using lemon scented anti-bacterial spray to clean the wall and fridge surfaces.

I got food poisoning from a Chinese once from the BBQ ribs. 11 days of being on the toilet led me to A&E and telling the doctor I had explosive 💩 and when he inserted his finger into my 🍩 I had no idea what was gunna happen he didn’t look too impressed 😂😂 luckily nothing happened but he did say I had a irritated 💩 pipe from sh*tting too much 🤣 great vid by the way…braver man than me

The low ratings can usually just come from the resturants paperwork not being up to date. I knew a guy who owned a takeaway and they got a rating of 1, I asked him what happened cause the food was always spot on and he said that if they haven't got a license record upto date then they instantly get knocked down to a 1 rating. Don't know how each council does it but thats how they do it from where I am from! :)

I think it's important to bear in mind that even a 1 or 2 star professional kitchen is probably a damn sight cleaner and more hygienic than your average domestic one.

Sometimes though the lowest scores are better than the 5 star rated places. The score doesn't necessarily mean cleanliness or lack thereof.

Hmmm yes the score does necessary mean cleanliness and lack off hence Food Hygiene Agency Its not a Michelin Star or Google Review so it doesn't determine the taste so sure a place with shit hygiene could have some banging food but it will bang your insides and make you vomit if you saw it under a microscope or knew what was happening behind the scenes

As some have already said can be docked on how you store foods, cleanliness, paperwork on fridge and freezer temps, and stuff precooked shouldnt be kept longer than 3 days and can only be reheated once.

These kind videos always interest me where people seem to really care about the hygiene of where they are eating but the reality is there own kitchens are most likely on par with some of these places. I mean do you at home take temp checks on your fridges do you store raw meat and cooked separately. Do you store your meat on the bottom selt. Do you do a weekly deep clean and montly full clean. Do you recycle your items etc etc. simple fact is you probably cook your food in a 2 or 3 star kitchen in your house. Lol

the thing is hygiene rating can go down from not having paper work right, my worked in a place that was 5 stars but it lost 2 stars from not having all the right paper work but that was sorted out and they got back there 5 star rating.
