I'm not a lawyer, but there are different forms of bankruptcy. All forms of bankruptcy are meant to repay creditors that lent money to them but the company can't pay. Some forms are meant for individuals but others are meant for businesses, and some are for restructuring while some result in a closure. TLDR: Lots of people/companies file for bankruptcy, but they're not all the same form and result in different outcomes.

There are different types of company bankruptcy as well. Chapter 7 and Chapter 11. Chapter 7 is not avaliable for corporations, partner ships, or sole propitiers. This is where they liquidate and sell things to pay off creditors. Then there is chapter 11 where a company can continue to run as normal while restructuring debts. During a chapter 11 a company may find another company to unload their company on and use that money to settle debts. I know these because the client I work for went into chapter 11 bankruptcy and made their customers panic by not explaining we are not closing we are just trying to find a new owner.
