I don't get how Asus can make a detachable numpad this bad tho. Microsoft already had the perfect solution in 2008 with the Sidewinder X6 and a numpad attachable to both sides using magnets. Not sure why no one builds a modern mechanical keyboard version of that.

The long control I would say is actually a really good feature for the intended user of these. Many FPS players angle their keyboard with the right side closer to them for better positioning of their left arm while their face is close to the display, and for more mouse room, which naturally shifts their pinkie closer to the space bar. Hitting alt with the left thumb is also a common control in games and this moves that closer to the thumbs resting position. With that layout change, both are in more usable positions for both a straight and angled arm for playing games. The fact that we even use keyboards for gaming now is completely and totally arbitrary, and if we were designing something today, the CTRL key would not have been short like that... Games need extra commands pressed/held with similar frequency as SHIFT, so it would have been designed to be long like that... it even makes it in-reach for ESDF users.

Hey there! Thanks for checking out my post. I totally agree with you! The HOTO Compressed Air Capsule seems like a great addition to any desktop setup. Its powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, along with the multiple tubes and high-quality filters, make it a versatile cleaning tool. Plus, the compact size and efficient storage are definitely appealing. Overall, it sounds like a handy gadget for keeping our spaces spotless. What do you think?
@IrrationalDelusion

Use English C instead of Shift, makes crouch switching to slow walking much easier. With Shift you have to awkwardly glide to reach Cntrl key. Ex Global Elite in CS tip.
@MangoTangoFox
@MangoTangoFox 7 ай бұрын
@@IrrationalDelusion Yeah I personally have always used C for crouch toggle. I forget which game taught me it originally, maybe Borderlands 1? In some games like Overwatch where spamming it has no cooldown (eg on Tracer for dodging snipers), I duplicate it to ALT as well to let the pointer finger stay on D.

Imo the problem is the price, if you're going to make a keyboard that is made for people who don't need more fancy features, why price it higher than most of the keyboards who have all those features. If you make a keyboard with $20 worth of value it shouldn't be priced $130 because it's for "gamers"

Great video as usual. Looks like the same stabs as my old Razer Huntsmen Analog. Which is a surprisingly decent keyboard if you go through the trouble of taking it apart and lubing it and you don't mind a very stiff typing experience... And cherry profile caps seem to have issue on it... But it feels and sounds pretty good if you can get past that. But I still sold it and upgraded to a Q1 with POM plate, PE foam and lubed Zealio housing Epsilon stem switches for my daily driver and am far more happy.

Bought a Corsair K100 a while back, despite coming in at $130 for mx speed & slightly higher for the optical the quality is great. They finally added the standard bottom row so keycaps are actually swappable, rgb is plenty bright (along with the addition of rgb around the sides & back), still has the aluminum plate, and the addition of a multi purpose wheel... which i must say... may be imperfect but its still a nice option.. i actually find myself using it.

The numpad concept is pretty neat I put a numpad on the left side anyways I hate attached numpads and this is a good middleground. Tho I would prefer if the keyboard had the "cooler master pro m" layout. You choose to have either a tenkeyless or navless with NumLock. It's the best of both worlds and you only need an extra row of keys from a tenkeyless.

My first gaming keyboard was a Razor something or another, and they soldered the switches down, and they were proprietary switches with a RGB led attached to it. The switches are nice clicky switches but you'd need a heat gun to remove the switches to repair or replace them, and you'd not be able to have the RGB effects if you did so, so I hucked it in the trash when one of the switches gave out on it.

Everyone I know as always used C ever since it was the standard crouch key in old games. F for use key since GTA, Q and E for leaning and Alt for prone. @@matheusbee3441 It depends on the game for me. If a game doesn't allow you to sprint while crouching, I prefer to use ctrl as it allows me to maintain full wasd movement without sacrificing anything. Howdy hey, Could you do a Video on Buckling Spring Switches like from the IBM Model F or M? Maybe what modern switch feels similar or where to get new switches of that Kind? I couldn't find a video of yours on that topic.

To put it nicely I think these keyboards are like hot hatches and the premium DIY keyboards are like Bentleys. There’s a market for both, some people really want to spend $80k on a hot hatch and who am I to judge.

the build quality to price ratio of gaming keyboards was always so strange to me... corsair k100 being $300 for an absolute garbage keyboard is a standout to me (and this $270 asus board being plastic... wild) would be interesting to see if you could do any modding to these keyboards (or any other off the shelf gaming boards) like tape modding, etc. (cheap stuff) to make them sound better. great content as always hipyo :)

I bought a HyperX alloy 60 for like $60 on cyber Monday. Having used some of the keyboards in this video I would rather use that then any of these keyboards for gaming.

What can you recommend for a beginner who’s looking for a full sized hotswappable keyboard? I want to make cool customizable keyboard to use at work but I really want a number pad included with the board. 😓

So, I have a hate/love relationship with gaming keyboards. Considering "the hobby", they are actually on the cheaper side and widely available, especially if you live in Europe, where choices for ordering KB stuff are somehow more limited. On the hate side, their main selling point seems to be that they have RGB and some macros, pretty much features I personally don't use :D. Then they are made quite cheaply considering the price point as you pointed out with it being plastic and stuff being mostly non-replaceable. PS: I like to hit left control the fleshy edge of my hand opposite my thumb (we tried to find the proper name for that a while ago, but couldn't find anything non-completely-medical), less contortions of the pinky finger and feels more ergonomic to me.

Hitting control like that sounds extremely awkward... I feel like I would hit at least 5 additional keys by accident if I tried that.

@@spellfox_ I have short fingers, so that part of my hand hovers over the button most times, so the movement is essentially either just rotating my left wrist a bit and depressing the button on the outer edge or actually pushing it with the part where the pinky finger separates from the palm of my hand, depending on where my hand is currently hovering. Sorta hard to explain.

@@simrock_ Sounds like the equivalent of a claw grip, but for keyboards. I have big hands, but I just tried how that could work, and I can see the idea. But for me it makes it unnecessary hard to hit the bottom key row. But hey, if it works, it works. I'm also not into all that flashy RGB stuff, the only reason for me to get something with it would be to set it to a fixed color of my choice. Macros are nice to have, not just for games but also for content creation or office work. I tend to keep ctrl + w on my mouse (closes the current browser tab) Basically all the "gamer" stuff is nice to have, but not for what they advertise it as.

Just a friendly reminder that gaming keyboards, plus the patent expiring on cherry switches, is the reason why so many people are now into high end ultra customizable keyboards now.

by this video you made me question quality and price of my keyboard and what i can say is that im so glad that i got it this ''cheap'' (around 40 dollars) for a 60% wireless, adjustable rgb, red swapable switches that actually sounds good, and now its even in sales, like Im impressed what I found. From what i gathered and in my opinion I would choose my keyboard propably even if they all cost the same.

Personally, I have a few custom boards and I do experiment with these big brand keyboards occasionally. I bought the ASUS Strix Scope RX Red switch (the exact first one shown here) and after lubing the switches, it probably has the BEST typing feel I have out of all of my keyboards. Im not too sure why the board shown looks different though. My keycaps are the satin types which show finger oils easily but my RGB on that board is easily brighter than all of my boards so i'm not sure why your board is so dim. But generally, that board is my favorite linear keyboard to type on hands down after lubing em. Without lube, the keycaps do sound hollow cos they are quite thin. But if you know how a good restored typewriter feels like, the RX actually reminds me of that. It really is CRISPY. But yes, it is annoying how the keycaps cannot be changed and I have to wipe my keyboard down every week.

If it has an enthusiast price point, you can put them to enthusiast standards. I.e: these gaming keyboards are so expensive they are actually bad value, *even* when compared to the enthusiast stuff.

I guess in first person shooters and maybe starcraft 2 this makes a difference. But you would be hard pressed to give me two gaming keyboards where the actual keystroke is the defining factor on how quickly a command is processed.

Hey man, I'm in love with my Dell sk-8135, but she has some issues. I like the key feel, but I hate the lack of nkro and RGB. Is there a way to get a custom board that would swap in that doesn't suck?
