That loading of initial textures is a result of drive having high latency. It doesn't really matter for gaming, so nas servers are kinda good alternative for someone like me, who just have alot of hard drives for mass storage, but also wants to play games.

Saw asustor on the thumbnail and knew this is likely a sponsored or a manufacturer provided unit review video. Made me chuckle as its been a while since I've seen vids sponsored by asustor. As for what you shown, kind of meets my expectations for a NAS with hard drives as storage for games. Some wait time, but since its setup as RAID and with the 2.5 gigabit seems to be faring better than just a single hard drive inside a PC. Honestly just reminds me that I should get a NAS at some point for my files as managing them between the drives in my PC, external hard drives, flash drives, and cloud storage. The situation is getting messy especially on the first two storage locations mentioned. A NAS would probably help solve a lot of it since I could transfer files directly to it instead of to my PC then to another storage device.
@zWORMzGaming
@zWORMzGaming Жыл бұрын
And it was running at 1gbit, even more impressive :) Gonna get a 2.5gbit switch next and then I can actually start using this as storage for some games instead of always downloading every game for every PC. Neat :)

My prebuilt pc comes with an hdd and I install all my games on it (except for Minecraft), and I have to say that Kryzzp's testings are very similar to my experience. For example, horizon zero dawn was unplayable because of the stutters, but games like Battlefield 2042 ran flawlessly, which I did not expect when I first got the game 4 days ago.

26:27 If you really want a tough area for Elden Ring, goto the NW corner of the Consecrated Snowfields, and you'll find a Wandering Mausoleum that shoots magic blasts at you. Only area of the game for me that truly tanks. I'm usually 60fps, but it drops below 30fps out there. I've seen complaints on Reddit, so I don't think it's just my 6600 XT.

oh and for all of you out there that did not know . have you heard of cloud gaming ? if yes , have you heard of a french startup named Shadow that made what geforce now what it is today ? yes . because of shadow , nvidia wanted to launch itself into cloud gaming because it saw potential there , same with xcloud same with stadia same with amazon luna . know what ? shadow uses compute clusters for rendering and processing the data of your "cloud pc" , then uses storage clusters (separately of the compute ones) for your drives that hold your windows OS , your app and your games . they bridge the 2 together via a high speed interconnect of fiber cables or what ever , then configure it so your Gaming VM (your shadow pc) is but one thing that is shown on screen . so yeah , if your storage (in your nas) and link to your nas is fast enough , there should be no perceptible performance degradation over local (your own computer) gaming .

Considering I'm thinking about getting one of these myself is it possible to kind of hot swap PC games from This Server back into your PC like perhaps maybe if you put the install file back on your main storage Drive it would run better and then when you beat the game I don't feel like playing it for a while you can just store it back in the server until you want to play it again and then you repeat putting it back on the main storage in the computer is that possible? P.s of course I'm not talking about literally taking out the server from the computer and such I'm just talking about the install file for the games

So can this store Steam, Epic, Ubisoft etc games in one place and only need to be updated once for use on multiple computers? A tutorial would be great as this looks quite interesting. Also does this use up all the bandwidth of your network? What happens when other people are watching KZbin or Twitch at the same time?
@ASUSTOR_YT
@ASUSTOR_YT Жыл бұрын
We've never tried if the game can be run simultaneously across multiple PCs because it is possible that Windows locks files when they're in use when the game is running. But we'd love to see @zWORMzGaming try! Actually it shouldn't use all the bandwidth on the network because most textures and other game assets are mostly smaller files and are more sensitive to random performance rather than a sequential transfer of hundreds of Gigabytes in a single go. Modern switches and routers are pretty good at keeping lines of communication between devices separate. The processors in those are usually able to handle multiple tens of Gigabits per second to handle all of the ports maxed out if they're all independent transfers. So if you are transferring a large file between the NAS and your main PC, this is not interacting with or sharing the connection to the Internet, so your brother/sister if watching KZbin would be unaffected.

As long as an hdd is healthy and not super old, a game should never have any problems with it .Maybe slow load times but no things like freezing or stuttering just from the disk. This is unacceptable and the game must have poor optimisation and be a failed product if that happens.. The only game that really needs an ssd is warzone 2.0 , that fails to load the textures properly which is a tragedy if you ask me. Literally the only game, even bf2042 runs well on hdd
