Wdym bad? I love my jelly set lol
@lns0lence
@lns0lence 2 ай бұрын
@@coffeeismyblood5128 Have you ever tried artist-grade gouache (any brand)? I have a pretty unique situation for unbiassed comparison: I am an artist by education, but I have been painting only digitally for the past 15 years. And around half a year ago I suddenly had an urge to go back to live materials, and I've been seeing the jelly gouache going viral, so I bought it (HIME). Tried it and it was very unpleasant to work with - sticky, too thick, if diluted - hard to mix till smooth, absolutely destroys brushes, mixing colors gives somewhat unpredictable results, and after drying the colors fade but stay unpleasantly glossy. The results were pretty bad and I though it was because I completely forgot how to paint with live materials. But I decided to give gouache one last chance and bought a cheap student-grade set (Talens). The difference was stunning - much easier to work with, normal mixing, normal water dilution, no globs on paper, no damage to brushes. So after that I decided to invest and buy good artist-grade stuff (Schmincke Horadam) which I keep using now whenever I feel like painting on paper. Seriously, jelly gouache is pretty bad. I would say it's only usable if you paint with it straight from the tub to have a single layer of unmixed color. Probably good for decorative stuff like patterns or anything that can be done by painting in solid areas within borders, but for classic art - unusable, I'd rather switch to charcoal than paint with it again.

If you look at those traditional Japanese art paintings with the long but puffy clouds, tall narrow mountains with the bulbous peaks, the shapes of the people (as demonstrated in this video) and the colors used, you will see how much of Dr Seuss' art style in his children's books was influenced by traditional Japanese art. Seuss was probably introduced to that art style during his time working for the military making WWII propaganda art. It's really amazing when you compare the two.

I have graphite powder, and TBH, I don't use it all that much. I have made some tinted graphite watercolour paints with it, but that's about it. However, a year or two ago, I got some graphite putty for my daughter, and that stuff is next level. You can shape it into different drawing implements depending on the effect you want, and it is also water soluable and erasable. Although still messy, it is much easier/safer to work with than the poweder, because ventilation is not a concern.

@@nancyortega6105 they have different sets as well at diff prices. I think I got the 36 color set but planning on buying the larger one as they were that good. THey have a slight learning curve cuz of the pigmentation, but they give a painting a nice almost glossy look like with acrylic because of the specific binders it uses. And yes, you can literally smell the sugar and animal glue in the paints (not in a bad way) and it really adds to the experience of painting with them

Bambino is considered peak when it comes to children's art supplies here, especially because of these crayons since they're not like normal crayons, they're closer to these plastic ones than wax ones. There's also an unique way of coloring with them: sharpen the crayon so the dust falls onto the paper and then rub it into the space you want to colour... kinda like that powdered graphite, but home-made and with bigger colour range

Certainly, India is not anywhere near the US, or are not even ahead of a lot other developing countries. "The first plastic crayons were introduced by the Japanese company Pentel in 1965. These crayons were called "Pentel Arts Oil Pastels" and were distinct from traditional wax crayons due to their plastic material, which provided a smoother and more vibrant coloring experience."

I'll be honest, I thought this was going to be one of those videos about silly, half non-functional 'art supplies', but I was very pleasantly surprised to see genuine art supplies being explored as we took a trip around the world. The Crayola dupes from other countries were particularly interesting to see. If you ever do another video like this, you should check out Camel art supplies from India as they are a very popular, and apparently quite good quality, local version of many common art supplies, particularly oil pastels.

Little thing to know about the Lascaux Gouache is that there’s some acrylics in the binder and depending on which specific product you got, it might be actual acrylic gouache which dries down insoluble. They’re amazing paints, but do read the product labels and descriptions when buying so you don’t end up with something different than you intended.

Hello! A few more information about Bambino. Bambino crayons isn't wax based ones, and shouldn't be compare to other wax based in my opinion. They are made out of kaolinite clay. Also you can buy them in cardboard boxes, which are more common - you can buy them in almost every shop here. And yes, they are very popular in polish kindergardens for decades, similar to Crayola in USA. About coloured pencils - unfortunately these ones you have aren't made in Poland. Bambino has version in wooden cases, but they are thicker, and have word Bambino on each pencil. Also packaking should have white and red marking with sentence "Jestem z Polski". The version you have is just cheap chinease product. I don't know why St. Majewski (company, which owns Bambino brand) puts such products under Bambino label...

Awesome thing about bambino crayons?- Use pencil sharpener on them and use the shavings for background or anything and smear with your thumb or a tissue! It was my favorite way of coloring my coloring books
