The long tip pencil technique is a great way for heavy handed people to lighten their grip. I mostly work in mechanical pencil, but when I use wooden pencils, I use this technique. Some advice i should add, the lead is often sanded to a sharp point.

Haha you describing how hard it was to find the Jo Sonja medium! Usually i can’t find any supplies KZbinrs use in Australia, and if I do they are SO expensive. Jo Sonja is everywhere here, I have a few of their mediums/varnishes because they’re sold at Spotlight which is our version of Michael’s/Hobby Lobby and if you are a member they often have great VIP sales. I am amazed by blending of crayons using a hairdryer, and the cheap marker and straw airbrush. The pencil I know of, as the artist Proko uses it for versatile shading. Also congratulations on the wedding! Your wedding dress is stunning!

7:47 What on earth is the point of sharpening a pencil like that? You could just buy a mechanical drafting pencil (that is, the clutch-style lead holders for 2mm leads) and just extend the lead a bunch. Not that I see how it makes any difference in how the lead wears - all it does is make you rightfully afraid of breaking the lead, and thus forces you to use a very light hand. But you could teach yourself to do that with a normal pencil or mechanical pencil.

I've been around your channel a few times and that George Harrison portrait is one of-- if not _the best_-- pieces of art I have seen you do yet! A testament to the power of simple academic principles applied to the humble No.2 pencil.

6:01 Ah! The long tip thing is an idea that seemed pretentious. The issue of the way you srap pencils is more about what you feel most comfortable using... And for that thinghy it's better to use a mechanical pencil and pull a lot of lead from the mechanism and that's it, sing that system of sharping... or one of those pencils that are completely graphite or compressed charcoal. It is also a lie, the great masters of the Renaissance did not use pencils like that, in fact what we currently know as pencils was not invented until the 17th century. Bars of material have always been used, but specifically with the shape similar to the current one since the Middle Ages. The Renaissanceists used this to sketch crudely and draw on a large scale. For normal drawing they used the Silver point technique (which has already been shown in this channel). This "big point" nonsense is surely something from academia that someone thought of making official, and it just went viral... I had NEVER, not even with art conservatory professors, seen that before.
