I've been in Singapore 3 days and 4 days in Thailand bankok. I prefer Thailand 100% over Singapore. Singapore is to expensive shop malls look like super quiet dead.. unlike Thailand always alive and fun. I did like the efficiency of Singapore. And the simcard for data but other than that I liked the food more in Thailand and way more to see and experience so Thailand wins for me.

When you have young kids, nothing beats Singapore. You need safety, service and medical help to perfection. But when your kids grow older, like older teens, you might want a place that is a bit more forgiving (just in case they make mistakes or hang out with bad company) and promote creativity (this requires less strict rules). Also, a bigger world if that makes sense. Singapore is so small that everybody knows everybody, including their mistakes. This probably does not apply much to ang moh, I can’t speak for them, but definitely can be nauseous for Asians. Then, like you say, people need to learn how to live in real world and Singapore is not really a real world. It is like a safety bubble, which is why it is good for young children. Of course this is just my personal opinion.

as a southeast asian, it feels uncomfortable that foreign vloggers pit us against each other all the time. And when they do it, its apparent that there will always something bad to be said about one country. This part of the world isn't built for that. We are a friendly region that embraces our differences. I hope you can all allow us to live our own lives, carry our own culture and not cause division. Its sad that vloggers, social media and the outsiders are ruining it for us.

The comparison is irrelevant; don't understand why people still try to compare orange and apple 😅😅😅😅. One is a developed city while Thailand is an emerging country!. And SG is one city/country while Thailand is a whole country and one can't expect to have the same organised things that can be found in SG. I love Phuket and the chill lifestyle. BUT when it is living there, there are so many things I would prefer Singapore in a heartbeat. 1) Public transport is very limited and 'flexible' timing. I once took their local 'bus' Song Taew. Oh man, it was a very slow ride. Of course they have bolt, grab and indrive, but it is not as cheap as we imagine. 2) If you need to engage any help for maintenance for Phuket apartment, my unlucky experience is they are also not very responsive. I called it 'Phuket' time. I have to remind I am not in Singapore so don't expect Singapore response time. 3) Water is not safe to drink from tap in Phuket. So just imagine how many plastic bottles have been accumulated in Thailand. 4) Electricity. I do find that electricity is cheaper(>10%) in Singapore compared to Phuket. And not to mention, it is not uncommon to experience blackout in Phuket as the cables are not built underground. Any accident or storm that damage cable lines can cause power failure easily. 5) Annual monsoon season. The flooding situation is not getting better in the annual monsoon season. Phuket drainage system is not built on effective flood control system. So whenever they experience massive rainfall, the flooding do get out of control. Recent flooding cases caused some landslides and houses to be washed away. I would definitely visit Phuket regularly but I don't think I would ever call it my home.

Every country has its downside. No country is perfect. You listed the downside of Thailand. Read the other comments on here the downside of Singapore for a complete picture. Instead of just cheering your own country. Especially comments by locals who wrote about their own country. These Singapore downsides will apply to foreigners who plan to live/retire in Singapore.

Water can be filtered by yourself. But having to pay 5x times to just own a same car - cannot be fixed. Same goes for medical bills. Even Phuket have plenty of hospitals within. 15 minutes drive. Not to mention they are much cheaper. Apples to oranges, in best case scenario

I love both Singapore and Thailand. Singapore is where my ❤ heart is-it’s home and I love it the most. While I also enjoy and love Thailand, it’s not somewhere I’d consider for long-term living.

Singapore is sooo advanced in almost all aspects, both the people and the country itself, though very expensive. Thailand, on the other hand, is still gradually developing and trying to learn things from other already developed countries. Personally, I think it's gonna be quite a few decades before Thailand could be comparable to Singapore. By the way, because these two countries are so close in distance it's best to live and work in Singapore, if you can afford it, and then spend nice long weekends and holidays in Thailand.

I’m from Singapore….retired and financially secure….I have to say Singapore is way too expensive and too sterile to have a comfortable life as compared to some of the other South East Asian countries…..it’s just that constant rat race here. I feel sad for the younger generation who now have to compete for jobs with an over influx of foreigners, public housing and housing loans being really out of reach for young people starting out in life, medical cost that just keeps rising and not to mention the ridiculous prices of cars due to the COE (entitlement to drive a car for 10 years). I was born and bred here but not gonna retire here….I spend my retirement moving from one country to another in South East Asia to enjoy the good life that was once found in Singapore and is no longer a reality. Having lived in Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand….these places have the warmth and exhibit the true quality of life that I cannot find in Singapore…..I’m currently in Thailand and treasuring every moment here.

I have people shared stress in Spore after retirement, that they plan to spend more away from Spore, and more coming over to shop in JB. Just try to learn if Spore is really costly for retirement.

Have you considered living in Malaysia where you can save lots of money. Many foreign tourists still consider Malaysia as a big value for money. KL, the capital, is the best city for many expatriates. However, there are many other options, like Petaling Jaya, a city just next to KL, or Penang, which is also an island which many expatriates choose to live in, alternatively to KL.

@@babibrain Singapore is actually even better when you are the average Joe/Jane on the street. You get clean air and clean water. Public toilets are a lot cleaner. The city is generally cleaner. Bangkok may be cheaper but you are breathing in polluted air, the streets are so dirty and there is a persistent bad smell in the air. Plus at night time, Singapore is safe and brightly lit-up EVERYWHERE. In Bangkok, most places are still dark and dimly lit, and is not safe. Guess who among the rich and the average have to be the ones to walk those dark streets at night?

But for the safety i may not agree with you, because Bangkok street is pretty safe, and for the "Most place are still dark" That's because you're talking about the "neighbourhood" that's light off after 4pm because the main street here is bright. Singapore asian parents are different from the western parents, particularly SG parents.When something happens to their children, they start blaming the government ( why like this, why like that, why didn't the gov do something about it ) the blame is on the gov but not on their children carelessness or their responsibility.Singapore children are too protected and pampered.The parents responsibilty to mould their children and teach them to be responsible for themselves ( be independent )and show consequences of their action ( careless wrong decision ) but with a full guidance and advise from parents.That's how children learn

Fact is, a comparison such as this is not an apple-for-apple comparison. So, it boils down to at what stage of our lives are we at, and what are our current (including short and long-term) priorities are, and which country offers the best environment (assuming one has a choice). No country is perfect. As a Singaporean, I take advantage and enjoy all the “good” she offers, and learn to manage the “bad” or “not-so-good”including providing whatever necessary alternatives for my children (if they are critically lacking). Still, I did enjoy you sharing your perspectives. For those who are fortunate enough to have healthy financial stability, perhaps appreciating our homeland while enjoying the occasional/seasonal getaway either to our favourite getaway or some interesting alternative experience is probably the best way to enjoy the best of “both worlds” or “rich world”.

@ To describe our current learning system as “rote learning” is not entirely accurate. It has evolved, and continues to do so. However, I understand what you are concerned about. First of all, unfortunately, one needs to recognise that quintessentially, the education system is primarily driven by what the Gov perceives is relevant for the current and future workforce. It’s another existential strategy. Actually, the source “pressure” and “stress” come from many players, not least and probably the most guilty are parents. All I try to inculcate in my children are habits, routine, and discipline. We discourage unnecessary tuition like the plague. And, I urged my children to just give their best effort. In the past (my time), the education system was very rigid but it is not anymore. Of course, like everywhere, those with greater financial resources, get to enjoy more options. My children benefited and survived the system.

There's a big difference with neighborhood schools whose students mostly end up in Singapore Poly or worse ITE. Fact. Foreigners with kids should know about the public schooling system in Singapore.

But the neighborhood schools and tuition from preschool issues is just too pressurized. And the highly competitive nature means much less chance to qualify for NUS/NTU. And the risk of wasting 2yrs for A-levels and not qualifying.

I live in Thailand for over 10+ years with multiple visits to Singapore as a tourist. Personally, I would never live in Singapore. It's too boring. The entire country of Singapore is smaller than the smallest US state (Rhode Island). Thailand is more relaxed, better cost of living and value, better food (my personal opinion), and it's a bigger country so you have more options to travel within it's borders and explore everything Thailand has to offer. Even if you want Singaporean food, there are many Singaporean nationals that have relocated to Thailand and opened up Singaporean restaurants so you can get it no problem. Healthcare at the top private hospitals in Bangkok is excellent, public transport in Bangkok is very good, etc. Also, personally I'm a "car guy" / car enthusiast, and the ridiculous government restrictions in Singapore on modifying cars would really make this hobby unenjoyable. You have these crazy COE certificates and excise duty taxes making cars only affordable for the super wealthy. A big turnoff for me. Did I mention that Thailand is more relaxed yet? Thailand has decriminalized marijuana and it's now legal for recreational use. Personally, I do NOT smoke at all, but the fact that in Singapore, you can get the death penalty for posession of marijauna is absurd. But then again, I don't have kids. Singapore does have a better education system (i'll give you that), but this doesn't apply to me at this stage of my life.

The public education system in Thailand is horrible. I’ve been living in Bangkok, Thailand, since 2016. Have been to Phuket many times. Phuket is not as safe as Bangkok. Leaving your car unlocked, with the keys in it, is far from a good idea. Secondly, Phuket is not as safe as Bangkok. Traditional Thai families do not even visit Phuket. Phuket and the south are influenced by the religion predominant in Malaysia, and it has local clans. It’s not rare to find elderlies in Bangkok who say Phuket is almost a different country within Thailand. The local clans make Phuket an environment way more challenging than Bangkok or other Thai cities. For example, they dominate the transportation system, preventing Grab (the local Uber) to operate there. On top of that, we find Westerners and Russians retired or party mads. It’s not a place for young, ambitious, workers or entrepreneurs, in my point of view. A more sensible comparison is between Singapore and Bangkok. But for this we need another video LOL

I worked in Bangkok for 1 year. Honestly on an average, cost of living in Bangkok is still lower than Singapore. Subways are ok in Bangkok except that it is more crowded than Singapore especially during peak hours. Public buses are a little less convenient and some are pretty old and can be quiet confusing if you are not used to it and the traffic jams can be quite a nightmare. The good thing about Bangkok it the rich diversity and a more relax environment. I never considered Thailand a land of smile as outside the shopping malls, away from the shops, people can be pretty rude. But seriously, as long as you are happy and producing great videos, we should be happy for you wherever you may be. Perhaps you may consider longer period of stay in another place whenever your children are having their school holidays. In ASEAN, honestly the best place to raise kids and work is Singapore. The dynamism there drives fast upward mobility, if you respond positively to it. Kids get the best education and you get top dollar for your work effort. The sociopolitical environment also help promote great efficiency, safety and productivity, driving towards excellence. These are great motivational factors when one is younger. Once you are of retirement age, your personal conditions change. If you need space to explore and travel, Sg is not the place for you as it's limited by it small island.

Can't really compare SG to Phuket...one is a financial centre and the other is a tropical holiday island. It also depends on the time in your life, but for me, good medical facilities and services is one of the most important factors.

As an expat living in Malaysia, I would view Thailand as the place to relax for a weekend holiday especially for certain demographics who would need a relief from some restrictions here in Malaysia. Besides, Thailand is like our backdoor neighbour if we need to throw parties or ''get loose'' once in a while.

If you have kids, I think Singapore is the best place in terms of safety, stability, efficiency and predictability. Comparing it like this is not really fair because you are comparing mundane day to day lifestyle to a holiday mode. You were not living you were doing a tourism stay. For living, you have to compare utilities costs (electricity, water, gardening, etc etc), medical costs, including for major operations, gasoline prices, and so on and so on. And not hotels for rent. And this process should be done for at least a year to get a grip on situation. Singapore have plenty of downsides which is also forcing many successful businessmen to move to cheaper SEA countries. To own a car in Singapore you would be paying 5x prices, would you not? (Thinking license which is also have to be renewed every 10 years). So overall a shallow comparison with a clickbait title.

Most of what you share I agree, like about 'smile' yes, that was what I felt the same way they were having for Thais, people. I am glad you share about this because if I would/will tell, explain and share in the social media I could not how to describe it. I had been to Phuket once and yes; we have the same though and feeling that Phuket was not very walkable compared to Singapore and in Bangkok. Since I am a city type of person, I prefer more in Bangkok than in other parts of Thailand because it have similar public transport by MRT/BTS trains. I cannot swim well so seaside place I have less interested, but it has better fresh air surrounding in Phuket, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai. I am not sure if you have notice about safety crossing roads a little/quite different situation when you use zebra crossing anywhere both in Thailand and in Singapore. Most of the vehicles drivers in Singapore would/will give way at zebra crossing including traffic junction but not always happened in in Thailand main roads and junctions, the drivers only give way and slow down sometime when they were/are about 100 meters away from zebra crossing might/usually give way.
