Thanks for the video! V11 is great, especially the bass session player. Your example tunes are always very tasteful. I couldnt turn off the text that comes up as you speak, it was hard to ignore. I went to the You Tube settings and turned off subtitles, but even more sub titles appeared :). Thanks again, your explanations are really great.

If I take almost finished 3 minute song track has synths and vocals and arrangement and it needs matching melodic rhythmic bass and drums can I do it here basically automatically like ai matches spacing of chords and with ongoing varying notes in each bar over 3 minutes as a noobie? Like scaler 2 than Captain plug-ins or ezkeys to ezdrummer 3 add in ez bass? What’s the best easy way? Limiting sidechain noise ducking problems maximizing groove beat energy?

Thanks for your questions. First of all I have not used any of the other plugins you have mentioned so I can’t comment on what they are capable of. However the Logic Session Players Bass and Keys are driven by your effective use of the chord track. This is what guides the players in the direction of your music progression. They will not analyse parts of a song as you have mentioned and then adapt to the direction of your preproduction. So I think you are unlikely to get the results you are looking for with these AI tools.

This is great! I am trying to make the jump from Garage Band to Logic Pro. Is there a plug in like your bass thing for a banjo?

For one song, I need a banjo and a fiddle. But the audio file I found I need to make follow the melody. Do I have to just selectively pitch or is there a plug in I can use? For another song, I need a cello, slow violin/string section.

My only complaint about the new session drummer is that you can't solo percussion elements like before and create rhythms with it. I used to use the drummer to create humanized tambourine/shaker patterns but I guess in this version you can't solo percussion instruments anymore? If there's a way to do it that I missed, let me know.

Absolutely you still can Chris. There are a number of ways in which you can isolate the percussion parts to create independent tracks for each percussion instrument. Dive back in and explore. You’ll see 💯

How do I update Logic Pro to Logic 11? For some reason I can't see the option, I'm still on 10.7.

It depends on the version of MacOS you’ve got on your computer. Logic 11 requires Ventura or above. Update that first then update your Logic Pro.

One the next page you will see a button called Software Update. Click that to see if you computer can be updated beyond the curent OS. Hopefully it can be.

Yes my friend. You enter the chord progression for the section then make a few adjustments and the AI does the rest. It’s insane how quickly things are developing in this area. 💯

@@MTTC it’s a lot more satisfying to, say, hear a 9th and then sing, play, or write it. It would be nice to take a pill to make you look ripped but being ripped doesn’t make you an athlete in the same way producing things doesn’t make you an artist. I’d rather go to the gym if I want to get ripped, and also I’d rather be an athlete than just have a good looking body.

I think it’s cool that logic has these options, but I feel the native instruments stuff sounds a bit better. Folks shouldn’t get too caught up in the whole AI hype thing. One could invest less time in manipulating maschine expansions and have much better results with better sounds. It’s so easy to fall into the trap/fad of the day when it’s being shoved down your throat with great enthusiasm. For instance, atmos, is anyone really using that now? I don’t see it being a huge necessity for home studio beat makers. Home studios are where it’s at. I make a good part of my living in mine in Smooth Jazz but I also don’t mix my own stuff, so no atmos necessary for me. I did enjoy messing with drummer in logic but it only went so far. For bass I have ez bass, and native instruments prime bass and icon bass. For drums I have addictive drums 2 and/or tons of maschine expansions. The maschine expansions also have many other sounds/instruments, keys horns and vocals for example For keys I have, well, myself. But if keys wasn’t my main instrument, I’d probably use ez keys,captain plugins epic, or scaler 2 to help. For percussion I recommend uvi percussion factory or native instruments session percussionist. 🎹♥️

It’s great to hear from creatives who have sampled a range of different approaches in production and also earn a living from the tools they use. I suppose it’s also a valid consideration for those who are enthusiasts and might not be in a position to afford the extras as mentioned. I have always advocated for creatives to learn to play at least one musical instrument as this knowledge is invaluable when producing music. That said I’m also of the mindset that I should embrace and explore new technological advances as they often point us in the direction of travel for the industry. Thanks for your great input 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

For $300 one could get 15 synths, 36 sampled instruments, 9 drum and percussion instruments, and 19 fx. This bundle comes with several of those expansions I mentioned. A lighter version is $100, and a more jam-packed version is $600. If budget permits, their ultimate bundle is $900 which has tons of stuff including 103 expansions. These prices are half off. They also have bundles that include a Komplete Kontrol keyboard. One does not even need to buy a maschine controller to use the expansions. I just use them inside battery 4 which comes in all Komplete versions. The expansions are normally $50, but they have sales that include half off, and 9 expansions for $99. @@MTTC May I add, in case anyone is thinking, “Does this guy really know what he’s talking about, or does he work for native instruments or something”? I’ve used these tools for many years with great success. Right now I’m working on my group’s 27th album. 1st release was in 1981, (I was 16 years old). The group is coming up on our 50th anniversary. I’ve written for and produced many other artists and have played on countless songs. As y’all may have guessed, my recording history goes back to 2-inch tape. Started working heavily with computer recording around 2000. I really love to share all the knowledge I’ve gained over the decades, with the hope of helping others get a little further a little easier. I spend a lot of time researching alternatives to the things I like and use, and try not to get too ‘married’ to 1 thing. I agree with the advantages of learning an instrument to help with production, but if that’s not possible, use whatever tools fit your style and needs. I especially encourage upcomers to disregard all comments that state, using this or that means someone is not a real producer or musician. Creativity begins in one’s spirit, so to me, whatever one uses to help express themselves is just fine. There’s nobody doing things in this purist form that some try to project. Show me someone who claims they only use patches/sounds that they create themselves to make music, and I’ll show you a liar. Everyone uses something made by someone else eventually. All they’re doing is changing the name from auto-drummer to session drummer and adding some new “players” and dubbing it “AI” The tool has been around a long time and is only going to improve. What people need to do is NOT waste their time and money investing in Native Instruments plugins when literally 98% of everything you could ever need or want in a modern DAW is supplied within Logic itself…along with all these nice “new” features.
