I would say the trick to this recipe is to let the carrots marinate as much as you can. I have done this multiple times, but the best time was when i forgot about them (heheh) and let them marinate almost 48 hrs.

Hack to cool things off fast: put the hot food that you want to cool [marinade, pasta, rice, etc] in a shallow bowl or dinner plate or cookie sheet. Just thinning it out, spreading it out will make it cool off SUPER FAST. It gets down to room temp in a few minutes. Then you don't tax the fridge by putting steaming hot food in it. I do this all the time with rice and pasta for salads. An extra plate or 2 to wash, but so what.
@robinnelsen78693 жыл бұрын
People really need to stop. There is nothing wrong with putting hot food in the fridge. It doesn't harm the fridge and it doesn't cause bacteria to grow. I don't care what you've heard, or what your family has always done. This is a myth and five minutes of research will prove it.
@sharit79703 жыл бұрын
@@robinnelsen7869 My point is this: if you spread hot food out thin [like rice or pasta] it cools off in a matter of minutes. The simple act of increasing the surface area makes it cool off fast. Just like hanging a basket of wet clothes; they dry far more quickly exposed to the air than if you left them in a heap in a basket. They would stay wet for hours; maybe days. If you put something hot in the fridge, and it causes the temp to rise, yes, it will kick on longer to bring it back to the correct temp; just like if you keep leaving the fridge door open and let the cold air out. You do what you like. I was sharing tips that have made my life easier with the hopes that it would also help someone else.
@robinnelsen78693 жыл бұрын
@@sharit7970 My point is, this isn't necessary. It doesn't harm the fridge to put hot food in it.
@lucinda23293 жыл бұрын
Without the extras you added - the marinade really tastes like hot dogs.I think your additions took it to baked bean land. Also you can cook them a lot longer - if they simmer in the marinade longer they dont oversoften and get more of the hot dog flavor. I've simmered for up to half an hour and the carrots didnt go mushy...Ive done the long marinade and the boil methods and notices zero difference in the final product. I store any leftover dogs in the marinade too. I've simplified the marinade to soy - liquid smoke - maple - and garlic powder.
@allier18673 жыл бұрын
carrots are good but they have this sweetness to them that doesnt belong in hotdogs.
@everlastingrayofsunshine3 жыл бұрын
You don't want to put food in the fridge or freezer before it cools all the way. Bacteria grows in the middle. It's some restaurant food safety rule but everyone does it anyway.
@simonsaysism3 жыл бұрын
This is a fake myth. If you leave it outside the fridge, it'll only take longer to cool, both on the outside and the inside, and the longer it takes to cool the more opportunity there is for bacteria growth. Sincerely, someone who has worked in multiple restaurants.
@robinnelsen78693 жыл бұрын
This is a myth and literally the opposite that you should do. It is absolutely NOT a restaurant safety rule.

I would love to see you try to replicate "Drunk Dogs," a popular Southern dish. The meat version is SUPER simple: You mix up a batch of bourbon, ketchup, and brown sugar into a slow cooker, stir in cocktail wieners, and cook them on low for several hours (six or eight, or overnight, that kind of thing). The ratios don't matter so much, but in my family the recipe we use calls for 1/4 cup bourbon, 1/2 cup ketchup, and 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar per package of wieners - and in our case we usually use two packages. It's the simplest recipe in the world, you can adjust everything to taste, use a different alcohol, or a sugar substitute as needed. I've been wondering for years how I would make a vegan version of this. I wonder if this carrot method would work. I'm afraid the carrots wouldn't hold up well after several hours in the Crock Pot...
