Last month, I decided to do a 30-day experiment and give meditation a try. I've been hearing of the benefits of meditation for YEARS - and had even tried it a few times in the past - but there were several things holding me back from making it a habit:⁣

1) I don't exactly have "extra time."⁣
2) It seems boring as fudge.⁣
3) It's HARD (or so I thought)⁣
4) When I've tried it in the past, I didn't perceive any noticeable benefits.⁣

Despite these challenges, it would be worth it IF I actually were to get the supposed benefits:⁣

- less stress and anxiety⁣
- increased sense of calm and contentedness⁣
- better focus⁣
- increased productivity⁣
- better sleep quality⁣
- fall asleep faster⁣
- strengthened immune system⁣
...the list goes on⁣

This video documents the meditation experiment and my results. Have you ever tried meditation before? Do you practice regularly? If so, what benefits have you experienced?

I try to meditate at least 10 minutes each day but I get on a roll and then I skip a few days. I need to work on being more consistent. I like the app Insight Timer. Sometimes I just set a timer with background music and other times I listen to guided meditations.

Distress = un-manageable stress. There is good {motivational} stress 🆚 “negativity in our thoughts” stress... ultimately we’re in a lifelong “struggle” to have our mind {Spirit} control our emotions and not the other way around. ~ Try an herbal intestinal cleanse for a few days combined with a juice fast. ~ 🎼 Good Classical music 🎼 also helps!! ~ Altruistic love abounds and is infinitely available... time to flower 🌺 and veggie garden too! ~ A caring hobby helps big-time. ~ All the best! ~

Love the topic. Lots of time spent describing the benefits, the perceived benefits, and your perception of the benefits. Was hoping to hear a little bit more about how you actually meditated in. I understand that you said the word one is part of it, but in one of your other videos and you mentioned that this video would describe the process

Really enjoyed this video and liked finding out the stats of how many times you felt able to get into the zone and hearing about which benefits you experienced. I think another reason I liked this video so much is because I've been following for quite awhile (maybe a year and a half?). For long-time followers I think inevitably it will sometimes feel like there are repeats of some of the topics covered previously. That happens in any long-running channel. But that makes it all the more fun when something you've never tried comes along and we get to hear your take on it! Next time that you do a month-long challenge, maybe announce it ahead of time so that followers who are interested can also try it that month too?

This was really interesting. There's a lot of people doing similar videos and they can get a bit repetitive but I appreciated the input from others/quotes and the slightly different viewpoint from yourself. Often people come in telling you all the benefits and never discuss just how *hard* it is to do consistently and how you need more than 30 days to really make a difference. I definitely need to practise meditation more, I just find myself getting frustrated about everything on my mind but know that gets easier if I'm more consistent. I also have to just stop if it's not working that day, forcing it doesn't help as it just causes more frustration. I do think finding the right time of day for yourself is important too. As you said, you struggle with mid-afternoon but that's my best time as it gives my mind a break and I feel refreshed getting back to work. What works for one isn't going to work for all and I think you got that across well.

I have been following a 30 day yoga sequence with Adriene on KZbin. She is wonderful! It is somewhere between 20-40 minutes and it calms my mind while I stretch my body. It has transformed my body shape while I feel I get the benefits of meditation. It might be something you want to try next and you might not feel the pressure of “losing time.” Good luck!

For me, meditation feels kind of similar to where my mind is at when I play music. =) I've been meditating for 87 days straight now, and I have been falling asleep faster, sleeping throughout the night, and feel calm during work emergencies. I only do it once a day for 10 - 15 minutes, and that seems to work well enough. 😊

I have seen and read the good thing about meditation so I tried it immediately. 1st week was really a struggle, but when I got used to it I felt great. I am more patient, focused and determined. Before I get tired easily, but now I am more relaxed and energetic. It is sooo awesome!

Gillian, thank you for an uplifting video and a great reminder to those of us that haven't meditated for years. "One" might not work as well for you as you'd like, because it represents the start of rather than the stop of things when you're tryingto meditate. Maybe try "blank white wall" or "0" (zero) and visualize it. Creative people have minds that never stop until we eventually can fall asleep. Even when you are not meditating, you can with your eyes open focusing on "blank white wall" or "0" helps to neutralize our mind of stress and emotions or also our thoughts when we need to go to sleep at night. It works for me and hopefully it may be helpful for you. Thank you for sharing you knowledge with us. All the best to you.

I meditate at least once a day, slowly working on increasing to 2-3 times. I don't do it for the "benefits" though - those are happy bonuses. I do it because I want to detach from and learn to observe my thoughts and emotions and remember they aren't "who I am" or even real. It's brought so much emotional freedom, but it wasn't a cure-all. I still had to do a lot of internal work. Think of "meditation" and "contemplation" as two sides of the emotional freedom coin. They go hand in hand. You start to become more aware of your habits but less trapped in them. (Also, I did a video on meditation when you can't stop thinking...because that's a thing that is normal and isn't suppose to stop.)

Tara Wagner this comes a bit late, but i saw your comment and had to respond! Love that you are aware of the deeper aspects of meditation. I’ve had a meditation practice for around 25 years, something I haven’t mentioned on my channel or anything. The contemplative meaning is not as popular online as the mainstream stress relief benefits of meditation many influencers do experiments with nowadays. 💕

Gillian these are valuable words on importance of meditation on daily work routine. I agree with you normally everyone can not have same amount of time to meditate. The frequency varies person to person and depend on the stress level and routine as well. Mornings are ideal evening before sunset are also good. I practice meditation and also have difficulty focusing. I have started using meditation music (many available on KZbin) and that has helped. One thing about meditation also troubles me: During meditation, am I supposed to think of something specific or do I merely empty my mind. Thinking about something is easier but emptying my mind is practically impossible. Which one is actually correct?

Don't give up!!! It takes a lifetime to totally understand the science. When your going and all the thoughts are in your brain, acknowledge them and breathe them out. The more you meditate, the more the benefits. The only negative I've experienced is when I get these crazy creative ideas afterwards so I have to try and do them, which creates more work.

Meditation is like exercising in the sense that “the how” or the method is personal, it doesn’t need to be done perfectly, and you don’t appreciate the benefits until you stop and see the effects. I stopped meditating during a very stressful period of caregiving and loss because I was “too busy”. That’s exactly the time when meditation would have helped me the most. I was derailed for quite some time and noticed the negative results of not being able to effectively manage my stress. My practice isn’t as structured as it use to be, but I do understand the benefits and make time. Even a walk in nature is meditation. Yoga is my go-to meditation experience.

I've been meditating now for 5 months and I can tell you that everything is better my stress level is down I'm calmer I'm nicer and I more productive and I make more money than ever. I know that seems crazy but it's true I would stick with it you'll find the time. I too was struggling most with the afternoon part but you know what? once I got into a groove I couldn't see how I couldn't do it and I got my work done faster just letting you know where I was and the benefits that it claims are 100% true. I just want to encourage you to continue you'll find that you that when you don't... you can find the time

I meditated for 4 months one time but for one hour each morning. Someone taught me a “routine” to go through to help quiet down the “committee” in my brain so by the time I started the meditation I wouldn’t be thinking about all my “to do’s”. They also taught me how to do the meditation by going through some visual “steps” to reach a resting, safe place in the visualization. I did that rather than repeating one word. It works. I only stopped because I lost 7 close family members, 2 pets > 15 years, my home, my job, and all my saved money within 3 years. After all that loss I felt less like meditating. I have started it again though and it does help me.

Here are some verses from the Bible that speaks of meditation. Isaac was meditating in the field when he saw his wife approaching. Genesis 24:63: And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. Joshua instructs us to meditate on the book of the law day and night. Joshua 1:8: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Psalms 1:Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2: But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psalms 63:5:My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness: and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. 7: Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. Psalms 77:11: I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember they wonders of old. 12: I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. 13: They way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? Psalms 119:15: I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. Psalms 119:23: Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes. Psalms 119:48: My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes. Psalms 119:78: Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts. Psalms 119:148: Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word. Psalms 143:1: Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. 2: And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. 3: for the enemy hath persecuted my soul: he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. 4: Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate. 5: I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands. 6: I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah. 7: Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit. 1Timothy 4:15: Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16: Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. Philippians 4:4: Rejoice in the Lord alway; and again I say, Rejoice. 5: Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6: Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I think Scott's quoting Sacred Scripture is a good thing, but I don't think he's using it as a tool to get you to Christianity, but rather trying to justify this kind of meditation. Yoga, New Age meditation is are all pagan practices. They open your soul up to demonic spirits. Yoga is literally dangerous for your soul. You should check out Sensus Fidelium as they have really good guidance on these dangers. Prayer is mediation. Prayer is far more effective as it leads you to our Creator. Who better to "fix" you than the one who made you? Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and Life. Don't allow yourself to be fooled by pagan distractions. @@gillianzperkins

Christine F. Yoga is not a pagan practice. Rather than researching biased websites and perspectives (I.e. Christianity), search up world religion and history. Pagan practices are usually practiced in European countries before Christian conversion. Pagan itself has nothing to do with demons. They were Earth based practices that sought deep connection with Mother Earth. They were environmentalists before environmentalists was a word. The only demons sought were from practicing black magic or black witchcraft, which was not a common practice back in medieval Europe when paganism was popular.

@@christinef.5515 John 7:24: Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. You failed to keep this Jesus' commandment. You would have done well to first ask me my intent rather than condemn the innocent of that which he is not guilty. I posted the Scriptures to provide Gods perspective of meditation, not as you falsely charge: "trying to justify this kind of meditation". If I were "trying to justify this kind of meditation" that you have condemned me of; I would not have included Philippians 4:4-8 which speaks of Jesus Christ Himself. You need to repent and turn from this spirit of judgment and condemnation as the days are coming and near at hand when the Lord will not be take lightly those that bear false witness against His man. But He shall consider the charge and if they be false; render judgment and tribulation upon those that have exalted themselves in pride to bear false witness and condemn His servant.

Why don’t you do more practical videos about digital marketing and how to get the word out there about your business. FB ads from getting your first customer to retaining your existing customers for example.

Rarely hear you say "difficult". Meditation might help everything u said. But it's just a form of action. Everything is from mindset.

Meditation sounds interesting but I don't think I can do it. I have to stay busy. Maybe one day... 🤔

Passive Income Tom If you have 5 minutes of downtime or even 1 minute, you can meditate. The length doesn’t matter as much as the consistency.

@@bartfart3847 The Bible says "God is Love" and that's why HE sent us Jesus 2,000 years ago. God loves everyone unconditionally but you cannot be HIS child unless you accept what Jesus did for the whole world but you have to believe it in your heart. God knows your heart. Shalom
