I Tried My Twin Sister's Job | A Day Working In Finance | Lucie Fink

My twin sister, Allie Fink, is a Vice President at a Manhattan-based investment management firm where she trades corporate debt. Since we overlapped during a recent week at our parents' house, I have watched her work for hours on end, staring at three computer monitors with crazy numbers and intricate charts that I could never understand. Just looking at it made my head spin. After a few days of watching her work diligently, I was intrigued and figured...why not give it a try?
NOTE: I wasn't actually able to do much of her work. We didn't feel it was appropriate for me to listen in on her company's phone calls, so I just sat nearby studying articles about the stock market while she handled everything. We basically treated the day like one giant lesson plan. I even took a quiz at the end (spoiler: I failed).
To backtrack a bit, our jobs couldn’t be more different. To begin with, her morning routine starts WAY earlier than my typical morning routine...at 6:45AM! We did our skincare routines together, got into our working-from-home outfits (leggings and comfy DIY tie-dye sweatshirts), and left her bedroom for our morning commute down the stairs to the kitchen.
We filled up our water bottles and left the kitchen WITHOUT our morning coffee…how was I supposed to function without an immediate dose of caffeine?! The first lesson of the day was learned: Allie likes to get to her desk as quickly as possible to clock-in. Since I normally work from home, and for myself, I never feel that rush to log into work so quickly after waking up! Even when I worked at Refinery29, I didn't wake up that early.
When you look at Allie’s working-from-home set-up, it's easy to get a bit overwhelmed. There's the laptop computer, the Bloomberg keyboard and two ginormous monitors. At her actual office, she works with SIX (6) monitors at her desk - can you imagine????? Throughout the day, Allie walked me through what she actually does as a corporate debt trader. She also shared some insights about how she was making her way up the corporate ladder as a female in a highly male-dominate industry.
By the end of the day, she had traded millions of dollars of loans…and to be frank, it wasn’t all that exciting. BUT, what made the entire experience worthwhile was getting a front-row seat and being able to watch my twin sister crush it at work.
I believe that new experiences are what make us better, more evolved & educated humans…and this experience did just that. Under normal circumstances, I couldn’t just waltz into her office with my camera equipment and film this video, but, because of this unique working-from-home time period, I was able to truly experience a day in the life of my twin sister!

I LOVED Allie's response about how she liked her job! It's so refreshing to see somebody who is successful say that while she doesn't necessarily have a PASSION for what she does, she's good at it and she gets satisfaction from it. I feel the same way about my job! I like my job, I'm good at it, and I'm satisfied with my career, but I've got passion for other things in my life. I feel like (especially on KZbin, which makes sense) there is such a focus on being passionate about your career but it's really not the reality for a lot of people. It's important to remember that you can still have a full and satisfying life if you work to live instead of living to work!

Allie is so awesome. Such a beautiful and intelligent young lady. I'm a 50+ y.o. woman who still counts on her fingers. School was difficult for me since I was suffering from pretty bad anxiety and depression, but didn't know it. In the 80's mental health wasn't a wide spoken topic like it is today. Oh how I wish I could turn back the clock and start over..

I have great admiration for your sister. She works in a field that is dominated by males where it’s easy to feel intimidated and overlooked by colleagues. Women majoring in finance and business have to work really hard to prove to others that they are just as capable. It’s sad but like Allie said it’s probably one of the most rewarding moments. You sister is a great role model. But I felt like you when she was explaining things and I didn’t understand 😂 I really enjoyed this video but it also showed me another reason why I wouldn’t go into a field like this one. I wouldn’t enjoy her schedule, the overwhelming amount of computer screens, and most importantly I’m not a math/science person. Anyway thanks for the video 💜

I can relate a lot to Allie’s job but I’m an Electrical Estimator: I work in a male dominated industry, work at my desk in front of a computer, and their is a lot of industry jargon to learn. I hope Allie can find mentors in the finance industry that she can look up to. I look up to my own boss for starting a women owned construction consulting company.

I'm a business major student and I gotta say I relate to Allie soooo much. I don't have a so called passion for what I do, yet it's something that can provide me with stability and I guess that's the reason I've grown to like it? Yet I know that this is not what I love. I always felt biased when telling this to people because I feel somehow judged with all of this? I don't know man, this is just pretty complicated but I've accepted it isn't easy hehe. Nice video, keep up the good content!

Like 2 hours before my first meeting I start the work day. I need my workspace perfect, to feel hydrated and to organize my tasks/emails for the day first thing. It helps ease stress and you want to be available/online for anyone who needs it before you think about coffee or food. && if you don't wake up early, you stay up late. There is no 9-5 😩😭
