I went to a Catholic girls boarding school. One of the younger nuns, (one of my teachers) gifted me a bottle of Oil of Olay pink liquid for my 14th birthday. She had lovely skin as far as I could see as they wore the full habit with the long black gown back then which didn't show a whole lot of skin. She had a little note with it that said "always moisturize dear". Every time I see Oil of Olay in the store I think of that lovely lady. BTW I still have that little note.

I wonder what oily girls did back in the day, because all of these ULTRA hydrating things seem no good for us. I used to be oily af. And my skin has greatly reduced the amount of oil it produces by using (first Korean hydrating products) and now vintage skincare. I do think Korean skincare is superior for makeup application tho. But for a good, healthy glow I just use my regular vintage skincare. I don't like removing my eye makeup with ponds tho. It gets in my eyes and it's annoying af. I wanna try a micellar water for that area.

I always thought that as someone with extremely oily, acne prone skin my skin problems would have been 100xs worse during the 40s & 50s,, because most of the products seem geared towards those with dry skin. From the research I've done there weren't many good products for my skin type during those years, basically they used soap, alcohol based toners, and clearasil type treatments. Your skin is amazing and you look great without makeup, you're so lucky!

Pinkie's meow is so cute. It was common growing up to remove makeup with cold cream. We used the ponds or Dorothy Gray. I loved Noxema as a teenager. Covergirl makeup and powder used to have the Noxema ingredients in it. It smelled heavily of Noxema. But for us oily skinned girls who broke out it was a life saver. It kept our skin from getting too oily and it cleared our skin. We relied on it and Bonne Bell. Ten O six really dried up the acne. My mom used the pink oil of Olay lotion. I remember it really making the skin look so glowing smooth.

I enjoyed watching you do the vintage routine and show all of the steps ❤ I love the old products. Sea breeze is gently wiped on with a soft cotton round - your rounds were more of a waffle weave which made them more harsh and you really were scrubbing over and over each time, just be more gentle and you will find that your skin will like it - although some people have to use the blue color “sensitive” version. Another key is that our skin has more swear glands between our nose and mouth - when we use masks or deep cleansing products they pull out toxins ( it’s even worse if one has eaten spicy foods) Also, in USA we have to specifically look for or order Nivea from Germany because ours is made in Mexico and the formulation is a bit different - I find the German version to be better absorbing for my skin . Also, we have to be carful to buy Jergens face cream made in USA or it is made in Mexico and the formulation is different and is also fragrance free. Many women would remove makeup with a cold cream and tissue and then put on another heavy layer and let it stay on the skin for at least 15 minutes to an hour, remove then use toner and afterwards a heavy night cream.
@Maialeen
@Maialeen 3 жыл бұрын
I think people's issues with the original sea breeze are that it's just aggressive and ultimately strips the skin and you see the effects over time. So if someone is oily and acne prone their skin might fight back and produce more acne and oil. It was thought before that you should go in aggressively and dry out oily skin but now we know we should treat it more gently and help it achieve balance that way. Sea breeze is full of alcohol, camphor, dyes, peppermint and other potentially irritating oils which isn't preferred today. I can see how it might feel refreshing when used for a week. But I don't know if it's worth sticking with it for a longer while. The tingling isn't really a positive. Whether it's good or bad, I guess the general consensus is bad. But as with all skincare some people will swear by a product despite everything.

I remember using a few of these products when I was in my teens in the 80s. I always liked Noxzema. After watching this I feel like going back to all those vintage products. Seabreeze is definitely more of an occasional product unless you have really tough skin. I have very sensitive skin, especially around my nose and mouth area, so I have to be careful. I believe you can also use just plain witch hazel as an astringent, which would probably be far more soothing. After all, it's used in Tucks pads for hemorrhoids and by women after childbirth. If it's sensitive enough for out most sensitive regions, I'd say it's good for the face, excluding for allergies and whatnot. Thanks for this. I'm kind of excited to re-try all those things from my youth.

My grandma used ponds or other cold creams and had a pretty tissue box cover on her tissues next to it where she sat to do her beauty routine, same place she did her makeup. She never did a second wash of any sort, just used the cold cream. She washed her face in the shower every couple of days though. She had pretty skin too. She was the glamorous type with false eyelashes, wigs , and flashy jewelry. Ever so often she would use Mary Kay extra emollient night cream. In the mornings when shd fixed up she never washed her face either and I don’t recall her using a moisturizer since she had soft supple skin from the cold creams.

This is the first time seeing you. You remind me of a girlfriend I've had since Grammer school. Your skin is so lovely I know why you have all those products!Also watching people in their environment can speak a great deal about them. How you spoke so quietly early, you are polite and allowed who ever was sleeping to continue. I'd be loud practicing my lines, or complaining about my hair!

Just a tip when using astringents. Be GENTLE when applying it and always avoid lip and eye area. It also should only be used once a day.

I am loving your video! My Gram taught me about Ponds and Sea Breeze when I began college. I also had an issue with the Sea Breeze, had to switch to the one for sensitive skin. Been using that and Ponds for 40+ years now. Love them! 😊💜

I love Oil of Olay Double Action Day Cream. I used to use Ponds Cold Cream but found it too oily. I use a drug store brand hot cloth cleanser (superdrug), the rival for Boots in the UK 🇬🇧 xx.

In the 50s and 60s I'd carry a tiny bottle of 10-0-6 to use during the day. After lunch, my super oily skin needed to be cleanse of face makeup. I go into the bathroom at work and take off my foundation with 10-0-6 and reapply foundation and lipstick. I actually would buy it in gallon jugs! It was sort of like an astringent, but it did a great job of removing makeup.

I used Noxema and Sea Breeze during my teen years. I never had breakouts except on my chin during that time of the month. My mother was "Never Squeeze" I didn't and I'm glad I listened to her advice. Being from Germany Nivea was a staple. The new brand you must make sure you check the label and get the brand made in Germany and not Mexico. The ingredients are different. I still use Ponds and Nivea today especially during the Winter.

Cold cream I've used for years to take off makeup plus it's way cheaper than micellar water which does well also- I also use cold cream around my hairline when I dye my hair- keeps the dye from staining your skin when you apply BEFORE and leave On during the application and dyeing process

Really enjoy your videos. Love learning the history behind the products. Used Noxzema a lot, growing up in the 60s, for washing my face and sunburn. Glad these classic products are still available. Regarding the Sea Breeze, I have slightly sensitive skin, and only use it at night, after I've removed my makeup (foundation, etc.). I use witch hazel in the morning as a toner.

I use Noxema to wash off makeup and then I use Witch Hazel and Oil if Olay too. These were items I used growing up in the 80's. About 15 years ago I went back to the old classics and all the memories of childhood came back. I love all these products ❤️❤️❤️. I'll need to find Sea Breeze, haven't seen that in a while but I would imagine it's a lot like the Witch Hazel I have.❤❤❤❤

Thanks to you, dear Laura, I tried Ponds cold cream for the first time and I really like it. I don't much care for Nozema though. My mom used it on us when we got a bad sunburn from a day long Beach outing. The smell is so strong and it seemed to make our sunburn worse.

💕 Love your videos so much. Want to also tell you what a pretty voice you have. When I was a teen, I used O.J.'s Beauty Lotion for an astringent. It was for preventing breakouts and to get rid of freckles. It was eventually taken off the market because it contained mercury! Good grief!

The american Nivea is thick too but more like a balm than a cream if that makes sense, closer to crisco shortening texture than your version, and very greasy. I still love it after using retinoids which can cause dryness and peeling.
