That ride back to Shady Bell after returning from *that place* after *that heist* in Saint Denis is probably the single most powerful moment I've ever experienced in a video game. D'Angelo kicks in, the storm clouds billow overhead, and I popped into cinematic mode and just sat there in a trance. Red Dead 2 is an undeniable achievement in interactive storytelling.

I played this game during my exam period so I didn’t have to get caught up with mechanics, the last single player story based game I played was just cause 3, and before that there was nothing. It was however one of the best story experiences I’ve ever had, that part in particular had me leaning back in my chair and simply welling up because you could feel the atmosphere

Have a similar story to yours haha. Last console I owned was the original Xbox and gave it to my best friend in 06 and never owned another console until the new PS5 I bought July of last year. Played Last of Us 1, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted 4, Sniper Elite 4 and then Witcher 3 . Bought digital copy of RDR2 last January rushing through it getting to the end and trying to move onto Elden Ring, God of War but after playing as Arthur Morgan in the final days of the Wild West, nothing (for me) compares to the experience RDR2 has given me. On my 15th playthrough now 😄 on Version 1.00 (bought the disk), spent 2 months in Chapter 2 and in Chapter 4, I used Angelo Brontë glitch (v1) to get Arthur safely into New Austin (no Invisible sniper) to hunt the remaining Legendary Animals, complete Herbalist 9 and collect last Dinosaur Bones, felt great to do that as Arthur. Gonna be hard for another game to take that # 1 spot for me.

I bought a system to play this game, and my first thought was, oh man things have come along way since Ocarina and Golden Eye The next game I bought was GTA V hoping it’d scratch that itch, and while it was fun, the world in RDII just felt so much more cartoony and dead. I’ve played a bunch of games since then, but none of them capture the novel in a game feel of RD II

In my opinion, this is the closest we've gotten to the perfect game. The gameplay, story, characters, atmosphere, world, sound design, and graphics are all just absolutely incredible. There are plenty of other games I love to play but this game has set the bar so high that none of them ever even come close to scratching the same itch red dead 2 does

@@malachiolmstead I think (having played both) GoW is the closer game-y game to perfection. Decently linear, side quests, good combat system, etc., where as RDR2 is a very immersive, realistic game. It goes through the change of a man, (Arthur Morgan) as he (based on the player) changes, and regains his morality, or worsens, and becomes rotten. Both very good games, just in different ways.

@@finn.25 yeah i definitely agree rdr2 is still one of my favorite games of all time I've played it like 3-4 times now and same with GoW although i think I've played GoW more but thats also cause ragnerok is finally coming out so I'm replaying it again. I just think i noticed more problems in rdr2 then i did in GoW like rdr2 had more bugs and sometimes clunky controls i didn't really have anything buggy happen in GoW (althought after kicking a chain and having to climb it is annoying and a little clunky) but they are a 9.8/10 and 9.9/10 with GoW taking the win imo. Both very different style of games but both doing it at a very high level

I agree! I feel the same about Horizon Zero Dawn - such a stunning game. So I was delighted when I stumbled onto Red Dead 2, though they are very different from one another. I simply think that they have such great stories which I haven’t found in many games yet… and to me that’s basically the most important aspect of any video game. 😊😅

Now that it has been almost been 4 years I can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever see a single player experience like RDR2 again... a budget of 500 million with this level of craft and dedication to the world, character, and the narrative. I don't think it is fair to say that other developers are lazy. Those other developers don't have a 540 million dollars budget to play with. RDR2 is awesome, but it is not just because the attention to detail. It is also the highest budget in a piece of entertainment ever. More than any other movie, series, video game, cartoon...

I don't think a lot of the developers are lazy though, most games have a focus and try to achieve that focus, this game's focus is the world and cinematic storytelling, which it thrives in, It doesn't mean other developers also have to focus on the same thing, right? This game is a masterpiece in its own way, but that doesn't mean every other game is bad, they do different things, like every game this game also has flaws and mediocre elements.

As Gustavo said, R* has an insane budget to hire on tons of people; the amount of hands that touched this game before it got to players is ridiculously high compared to devs with much smaller teams and budgets, hence why the credits are so long. We can praise a studio’s work without tearing others down.

Rockstar loves the concept of making the players to explore instead of spoon feeding their players. I mostly discovers cool things happening out in the middle of nowhere because I was collecting resources for Pearson. They basically wanted to give each different players with different playstyle what they want. People that likes to roleplay and explore more will do anything to discover everything, but it won't be too much of a problem for people who's only in it for the story.

That was my favorite thing about this game, the fact that there weren’t 1000 markers on a map. That it actively encouraged exploration and most of the encounters I had felt organic which cultivated a feeling of realism in the game. It fostered a sense of experiencing an event rather than just accomplishing a task like so many open world games feel like nowadays

I think those Ubisoft/Horizon games should make their maps more dynamic when you zoom in/out. If you look at the online map for RDR2 it looks exactly the same as the one of HFW he showed in the video but the game hides them until you zoom in

I'm on my 2nd playthru and still finding a bunch of stuff I missed by just being a few feet too far from seeing it. Even entire stranger missions and animals like iguanas I figured were only in Guarma and New Austin. You really are incentivized to explore by not being drowned in markers nagging you to do it.

Arthur Morgan is my favorite videogame character ever. No contest, he is the most well developed character I have ever had the pleasure of playing as in a videogame. It is truly astounding how good the writing is for his character and the performance Roger Clark gives. I am on my fourth playthrough and I am getting to see sides of Arthur and hear lines of dialogue I never did in my first three. He's the only videogame protagonist I have played as that truly feels like a human being. We also see Arthur display a huge range of emotions throughout the story like anger, love for those he cares about, fear, and a lot of others. I could go in more depth but if you played the game you probably know. What an incredible character. He is on the level of Walter White and Jimmy McGill in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul in my opinion. He's that good and I honestly don't think other protagonists in games come even remotely close to beating him.

Arthur is a much more interesting, relatable, and charismatic character than Geralt. I do not think Geralt is that great of a protagonist. I played like 30 hours of Witcher 3 and did not connect with him.

@@Wyttazs I would counter that point by saying the Witcher 3 was supposed ro bring in a lot of new Witcher fans and attach them to its world and characters. When it came out it was more mainstream than any other Witcher game or book and in my opinion it failed. Rockstar managed to make Arthur Morgan compelling in one long videogame and give him the depth as a character usually only relegated to tv shows or novels. The fact that I have to consume all of this extra media out of the Witcher 3 to get a well developed Geralt proves to me Arthur is a better developed character. Rockstar was able to make one of the most compelling fictional characters ever in one game and I didn't have to consume any other piece of media to get that character development.

No spoilers for anyone who hasn’t played it. This game is my favorite game of all time, the story is 11/10. The amount of detail in this game still amazes me. There’s so many random encounters you can experience. sometimes I just hop on to explore locations and i always find something new with every play through. The stranger missions really delve deeper into the character of Arthur Morgan as well, but I like that you don’t have to play them in order to understand the full story. I’ve probably played the story 4-5 times and i always say “this time I’m going to do a low honor play through” but I always get so immersed in the story and characters I always play as an honorable Arthur. No game has gotten close to match RDR2 and no game ever will in my opinion. A true masterpiece.

one of the things I love about this game is even though the map looks empty, in reality the entire game world is absolutely dangerous. there's nothing scarier than going through the swamps at night because you don't know what you'll run into, whether it be night folk, a gator, or a ghost. going through the swamps at night still gives me goosebumps to this day

I started from scratch & having a ball. I've played a bunch of hours already & I haven't even did 10 missions yet. It's just soooo much to do that has nothing to fo with game. Then it's even krazier how u can just explore random spots. I never really look at the map to see what it says outside of me going to the actual mission. Now I have to zoom in & look at what it says. It may just say "Johnsons Cabin" & u go & may find something valuable. My thing now is to stack up my money so that's what I'ven been doing. I've learned so much watching KZbin videos. I played this game by the book last time but now I know I don't have to follow exactly what the the game says. I've never played a game that was this free. It almost like a real world of just life. This time around I'm going to spend alot more time at camp & I'm going to read my journal now as I go

I remember that I bought RDR 2 in January 2020 and I couldn't have timed it better. The story, the game mechanics, the vividness of the world and how immersive it can get is truly hard to match. I remember some times when I wanted to do the missions but I ended up fishing and hunting. It's one of those games you want to forget so you can experience it all again for the first time.

This game is hands down my favorite game of all time! I played this game to the absolute max. Squeezed every bit of the experience I could. Hunting, fishing, exploring every corner of the map. I'd wait to complete missions I knew would move the story forward until I played that point of the game for 50 hours. I'm afraid to look at how many hours I have on this game. I bought it the day it came out and I played it regularly on the same story for the last 4 years. I finally finished the last mission 2 weeks ago. I have so many memories of discovering something in the game and getting so hyped! I don't think I've ever or will ever again get lost in a game like I did this one. You wanna talk about a completionist whenever a stranger or character asked for items to craft something I usually already had several of what they were looking for. Crazy... P.S. My wife hates this game lol.

Just as you said, almost 4 years passed a lot has changed, but the one thing that didn't changed is the vibe of this game. this is the kind of game I always dreamed of when I was a kid. The game where you can do whatever you want, where there is so much to do. Everything you can imagine. In a realistic western way. Not zombie, not horror, not fantasy just dirty guns and blood. And when this came out the dream came true. I realized it a few months after finishing the game. I hope that one day, something similiar will be crafted so again we could make our child dreams of a game fullfill.

My favorite scenes in the game: When Morgan and Lenny got drunk at the Saloon. The missions with Sadie (Baddest chick on the planet) And the saddest scene, most would say when Morgan died or when his horse died. But for me it was when he gave the payroll money to Tilly, and called her sweetheart.... I think the game is such a success because there's a little Arthur Morgan in all of us.

RDR2 was so good at just making you slow down. I get why some people didn’t like how slow some things felt, but it lends itself to the immersion. The slowness of the mechanics means you’re never in a hurry (if you embrace it) and that, to me, is what made me feel comfortable just fishing, playing poker, talking to the gang, etc.

You want it be slower afterwards. Most people have little patience. Rdr2 is not a game for little fortnite kids, it expects some "maturity" from the player.There is an organic fast travel system in rdr2 which people don't even know exists.

As a gamer, this game honestly made me feel more comfortable and mature with life. The first time I played it I did 3 missions and put it away. Forgot about it. Well, just last year I started gaming again after not, for 5 years. But also I didn't rush myself through the game. At times I would just get on my horse and go fish different locations for hours and hours. Adventuring and watching the sunsets 🌇 and sunrise 🌅. Rockstar knows they made a gem 💎 and as gamers we understand that fully. When Arthur died, I teared up a little cause throughout the whole game, he shows the integrity and eholesomeness as a character, when he did die, I got the feeling of when I watched my papa pass, and immediately went and found his grave in the game, shaken. Realizing how powerful this game was, and will forever be. And maybe in another year or two I'll relive this game. And experience a different love for the game. 🎮

I'm still playing it. I didn't discover it until late - Kingdom Come Deliverance was my main game over the long term until Ghost of Tsushima came out, and then I needed something new to play to purge my brain of Last of Us 2 trauma. Apparently my oldest remaining save was from the start of chapter 2 and it was from December 2020. I'm only just approaching the epilogue now. I've clearly taken my time and I think it's been more enjoyable than it might have been if I put in immense grinding sessions. I think I've enjoyed it a lot more than any GTA game too because the story and character writing was exceptional, plus the "western" era was something new to me. I almost didn't buy it because I'd never played the first one, but my friend said it was a prequel and that made me think "oh okay, I've got no excuse then" lol

@@timpage9424 it's an incredibly well made game - absolutely industry leading in ways - but the story is what made the entire thing ridiculous for me, aside from when the flashback scenes popped up. I couldn't even really appreciate the scenery, the voice acting, the animations and all that other stuff properly because the story killed it for me so early. Once I realised I couldn't get a refund on my digital purchase I just finished it on autopilot and uninstalled it. I guess I'm the complete opposite because I only played the first game by chance - I'd been on Xbox prior to buying my PS4, and it came free with that; I didn't really know anything about TLoU before that. But it was so incredible I just replayed it over and over again while hoping for a second game for years, and once I was done enduring TLoU2 I wished I hadn't bothered hoping and waiting after all. And now Sony has the audacity to charge 70+ for a remake of the first game, which just seems like a lazy cash grab since it won't even include the excellent Factions mode that I couldn't get to experience fully as I played TLoU late and the player base was already fading away by that point. I'm still pissed I couldn't get my platinum trophy because of that lol. But since you haven't played it before I imagine it'd be well worth buying the new version to experience that masterpiece in all its shinier, prettier glory. I just don't see myself being able to trust or justify giving money to them again. They dumped all over the legacy of that first game.

I really love that the game is slower paced than the usual games. It made me appreciate all the small or big things. When riding your horse toward a new destination you usually end up riding like 5 minutes and it could be that nothing happens at all. But if something happens you will be surprised and you will remember that for sure. You might end up doing something completely different forgetting what you had planned. Those long rides made me think about what happened just before perhaps rockstar wanted me to think about my decisions. The game is imo the best. The music is spot on.

I still remember this one absolutely random moment from the game. The sun was setting, so really beautiful color palette, I’m in the country side, beautiful nature all around, very slowly riding a horse, taking it easy, and suddenly the game starts playing a really nice music. I sped the horse up a bit to match the rhythm of the music. It was a really nice relaxing moment, completely random, did not need a quest or an npc to enjoy it

One of my favourite thing to do in this game and what made me LOVE Arthur is to just stop for a moment and read his journal. Everything that happened in the story is summarized in there with Arthur input and feelings and beautiful drawing. Everytime you discover a new plant or a new animal there will be a new drawing in the journal. I don't why but the fact that a buff grumpy middle age man likes to sit down and draw animals, flowers and places makes him so endearing to me.

I just played through RDR2 again on a high end PC after playing through twice on PS4 after release. The game is unbelievably polished and looks amazing on PC once you dial it it. It really was such a well made game, even if you don't like westerns it's just super impressive. I had no crashes or issues running the game. Adjusting the AA/sharpness and the rest of the settings was a pain because it looked blurry as hell at first. You can really get it looking great though, there are some good settings guides out there.

I play the game on a GTX 1050, and it runs fine at around 30-40FPS at 900p. I experience numerous glitches when changing graphical settings though such as DX12 not allowing me to change settings at all (it crashes to 1FPS when I tinker with settings) and the resolution scale and TAA keeps resetting each time I launch the game.

i think red dead redemption 2 is in terms of immersion and desire to just experience what the world has to offer, the best game i’ve ever played. going for all of the legendary fish and animals was absolutely amazing, one of the best experiences i’ve had with a game and made me feel as if i was actually hunting and fishing. they don’t show you exactly where they are on the map like a ubisoft game would, they show you generally where they might be, and it’s your job to track them and get them. same with the treasure maps. finding a map and then actually discovering the treasure once discovering the location on your own felt amazing. making sure you planned ahead as to not get caught in the heat with some heavy warm clothes on or in the snow in little clothing, making sure to check which bait is best for which species of fish, tracking the legendary animals right up until the point of stumbling across them and then the gratification of skinning them to signify a successful hunt. nothing compares. my experience and amazing memories of this game are exactly why i have such a hard time saying elden ring is my favourite game of all time. because aside from their genre, they have almost nothing in common. they have such different things to offer and generate a completely different experience and set of emotions to the point that comparing the two titles feels counterproductive and does a disservice to each title.

@@cowboy4187 i agree. rdr2 on a lot of fronts is the best game i’ve ever played. but then again i can say the same about elden ring. where i’ve come to shy away from having a “best game ever” is in direct comparison of all of my favourite titles, i’ve come to realize that putting two things that aren’t alike together in a vacuum only proves really how different they are rather than proving one’s superiority over another. i’ve just come to realize not naming a favourite or at least not coming to a “favourite” by process of comparison and just solely going off of the experience delivered and emotion evoked i can arrive at a conclusion without watering down or lessening the experience i’ve had with another.

I finally played this again since the very superficial play through I did when it first came out. I truly forgot the pure joy of time just slipping away as I play this game and do absolutely nothing while accomplishing a lot. This time around, I find that I’m enjoying all the little side activities. Collecting the cards. Following through with the famous gunslingers. Hunting the giant animals. Finding the camp item requests. I found Sadie’s harmonica while rifling through a random house by pure luck.

Without any exaggeration, this game changed my life. Let me tell you, my story. I was a hardworking, straight As, student till I managed to get into the top tech institute in my country for BS degree. (First in the extended family to get in). My parents were very happy and decided to take loans to pay my fees and send me to uni. I never realized it at the time, but this was the point when I subconsciously became overconfident about my abilities. I would only study a week before exams and spend most of my time watching KZbin, movies, and TV series. I used to watch Rhett and Link, Ryan Higga, Community Channel, Prank vs Prank, Vsauce, Vlog Brothers, Dan and Phil, and many others channels popular in the 2010s on a regular basic. My grades started to drop, but I thought I was in control, ‘I am not an addict, I can quit anytime’. Every semester I would vow to do better but fail worse than before. I did not know what was happening to me on a psychological level. When faced with bad grades, the guilt of wasting time and money, and the vanishing dreams of a well-paying job and a better life for me and my parents and siblings would make me hate wasting time, but at the same time, KZbin would let me escape into that digital world and make all my worries, guilt and headache go away. Except when the screen turns off, it would return worse than before. To avoid embarrassment, I stopped meeting or talking to anyone, till it was only me and my phone. I never talked to anyone about my situation or seek advice of teachers or relatives. I graduate with a CGPA so low that I was not even eligible to apply for any relevant job. This was the first time my family came to know about what was going on. They were disappointed in me to say the least, but they still encouraged me that everything will be okay. That year after graduation was the toughest. Most of my friends got amazing jobs. But the worst thing was, that now that I was out of uni and without a job, I was free to watch as many videos and TV series as I want, but suddenly I had lost all interest in that. In fact, I hated it all. I did online freelancing and had some success with it. I had time to think about important things in life, including what screen addiction had done to me. I decided to mend my ways and apply for masters. With a 99.98 percentile score in the entrance exam and an interview that conveyed that I have learned my lesson, I got admission despite my terrible CGPA. I started that first semester strong since I had no desire for wasting time. As final exams approached, I expected all As. Then it happened again. I used to watch the Radbrad’s gameplays in the past and when Red Dead Redemption 2 came out, I allowed myself to watch this one series, just this one and only for one hour a day. This series got longer than expected and I remember watching RDR2 videos on exams nights because I could not stop, and my mind was numb during exams due to not getting enough sleep. I had no control and kept binging many other series including Last of us and Horizon Zero Dawn till the result day. I got 2 Bs and by uni policy, I could not repeat a B grade. All that hard work in the semester was ruined due to losing control during the final exams. I got severe anxiety and sleepless nights. I hated myself and felt that the world would be a better place without me. What helped me snap out of it was the thought of how taking my own life will psychologically impact my loving family, including my little brother. During all this time, I had been read many books about quitting bad habits, but it was no use. Every book and every KZbin lecture about quitting KZbin ended with the common message that moderation is key and it is only a tool that can be both destructive but also constructive. I tried to be moderate, but it never worked for me. Every time I would pick my phone, I had already lost control. Finally, I read a verse, which is now my golden rule for life, (paraphrased) that when the disadvantages of something outweigh its advantages, then to make any progress one needs to get rid of it entirely. This is what I did. I replaced my smart phone with a small featureless keypad phone, deleted everything from my laptop and plugged it to a monitor so anyone at home could see what I was doing. I started praying five time a day, which made me very peaceful, free from anxiety, grateful for little things in life and improved my memory while feeling more present in every moment. Those five pauses in a day also helped me to timely regain control on those bad days when I fell back into old habits, instead of ruining the whole day and then realizing it at night. They helped me to avoid burnouts by taking five small breaks within a day. I avoided total seclusion by meeting and chatting regularly with others who prayed. Long story short, I graduated with a high CGPA and a beefed-up CV and managed to get my first job as a research engineer in a prestigious company. I regret wasting time, but I also realize that I would not the way I am today without going through what I did. To anyone who is reading this, I beg you to learn from my mistakes rather than ruining prime years of your life to learn the same lesson I did. Reevaluate your life now and identify your addictions. Get rid of things that are slowing you down, even if they are not as bad as in my case. Be brave enough to face harsh realities because digital escapism will only make things worse.

I recently got back into RDR2 for the third time. I had never progressed past the 2nd chapter mostly due to just the time investment at the time and getting sidetracked by other games. I was let go from a job in June and decided to play the game as I worked on finding a job and interviewing. I was so engrossed in the story and exploring the world. It was such a great game and story. Amazing!

When I first started, I was playing as a dastardly bandit, just going around mean mugging and trying to find a problem. But as the story progressed and Mr. Morgan started getting sick, my whole style changed. I slowly started trying to stall main missions to sake of side content more and more the deeper the chapters I went. It was like knowing an untimely end was just upon the horizon and I just didn’t want to face it, not with how I was acting prior. I needed to make “amends” I needed to stretch life out just a little bit longer to really make an impact before the end. Knowing the gang was gonna be destroyed by the end of the game made it even more daunting. The ending captures the perfect ending for the story. Going from bad guy to honorable soul. I Lowkey think that’s the definite way to play. Starting off rough and changing over time, as the impact on the story was felt at a greater depth.

I'm doing an evil run with a psycho long-bearded, shirtless Arthur armed with only arrows and axes while riding a donkey. It would be much harder to do this without mods.

This game is top-notch, one of THE greatest games of all time. Excellent story, innovative gameplay, and a deep level of immersion that no other game has been able achieve. The level of detail in this game is incredible, it really feels like you are there existing in that time period when you are playing the game, it is different when you hear about it, but once you have that controller in your hands you are deeply immersed. I'm convinced those devs at Rockstar are Wizards.

I love how NPCs interact with the environment, I once stumbled upon the Face Rock in Scarlet Meadow with a Guy on his horse just standing on top of the world in the same way a Player might do to get a good view of the area. It's moments like that which stick with me from this game.

I love this game. I love the open world and the fact that the story is long. It's more of a TV series vs a Movie. Great game and would love a RDR3

Arthur Morgan felt like such a real human, I was genuinely upset when his story ended. The side story missions that involved Arthur and random side characters were the highlight of the game for me. The main story was great but could’ve been trimmed a bit here and there, but the side quests were crazy immersive and memorable for me. Such a great experience.

The most alive and detailed open world I have ever played with the best NPC interaction. The Open world really gave me a sense of discovery That so few games have still found new things on a 5th playthrough. The activites really added variety. Side missions also had allot vaierty and some added to Arthurs Character. The Open world wildlife is incredible its like watching a nature dock. The World of RDR2 really made me feel like I was living im it which only Kingdom Come has manged to do. The Story is one of the best I have experienced And the camp systems adds allot to the story. Over all amazing open world which blew me away.

There are a couple of games I have a love-hate relationship with, but I think RDR2 has the widest gap between love and hate for me. I always say that for me to love an open world game I actually have to love being a part of it and therefore also act the way I would if I were actually a part of it. Case in point for this game: I never gallop through towns/villages, I treat my horse kindly, I greet people regularly, etc, not because it brings me good karma, but because that's the way I would act in that world, and it brings me joy to act this way in the game. Perfect immersion. However... the actual quests from the missions completely through me out of this immersion every single time, because they allow for absolute zero creativity and are entirely reliant on scripted events which pisses me off to no end. They become more of an interactive movie at times (the entire Guama mission to me is just one interactive movie to be honest - right at the beginning you actually have to hold down the 'walk' button, which to me is just equivalent to holding down the 'play' button while watching a movie). One mission I like to bring up as an example for this is the one in which you have to free a friend from a military fort. The reason why is because there are very similar missions in AC:Odyssey. In RDR2 you are made to go to the fort at a very certain time, your companion tells you EXACTLY which enemy to kill in which order and in which fashion until you've killed enough enemies until you have to create EXACTLY the distraction that your companion tells you to create from which the scripted chaos ensues which leads to the scripted use of the mounted minigun destroying the wall for an escape. Do ANYTHING else and the mission fails. In similar missions in AC:Odyssey it's entirely up to you how you get the prisoner out of a fort (and to be honest, as much as I love Odyssey, I wouldn't even hold that game up as a fantastically free open world game, but in comparison to RDR2 missions, it definitely is). This has been modus operandi for Rockstar for a while now and I really do hope they back away from this type of mission gameplay for future GTA and RDR releases, because they do create absolutely fantastic worlds, but the missions they make for them are honestly beyond subpar in my opinion. BUT: before you respond: opinions differ and this is just my own - don't feel attacked just because I voiced mine ;)

No attacked feeling from me :) I love that people can both love and criticise the game-can you imagine if that was incorporated into making an even better RDR3? …I commented this elsewhere, but every now and then an unexpected alternative mission path opened up for Arthur, I think when his honour was way higher than a player typically might be at that stage in the game. It hasn’t happened a lot, but I wish it did. I’ve made peace with there being certain immutable scenes in Arthur’s life. Like being in a super-persnickety and cranky Animus.

@@SPQRKlio I definitely love that there are certain moments in the game that are dependent on the way you've acted before - wish there was more of that, definitely! To clarify: I don't expect the game to be an incredibly complex RPG in which every single action has long lasting consequences. I'm just for giving players the basic freedom during missions that so many other games are able to provide.

the reason why missions are like that is because of cutscenes and sometimes even mission itself imagine you are told to chop some wood but instead you try to use creativity and you take your horse and go for a walk it's called freedom but how is that gonna finish the mission and you need the chopped wood for a lifesaving event what is gonna happen is another gang member will do it and this Was an example but it happens in some missions and you also said in guarma you are forced to walk with the chains guess what you don't have to like really try it something cool will happen

yes, even without watching yet, i can tell you it's a masterpiece of a engineering and technical marvel. never played anything of the sort, it blew my mind, i was so immersed! if ppl ever asked me (no one ever have) what is the best/perfect game? it's red dead redemption 2, it's not perfect (no game is) but it raises above the rest.

5:15 and then there is KCD hardcore mode. No fast travel at all. And no compass. And no player marker on map. You did develop orientation skills and literally learned the routes between the villages. Getting lost was actually a thing, especially at night, and especially in the beginning. It was one of my best gaming experiences ever.

It’s art, it’s the purest form of gaming, it’s a complete different experience for every player that has non stop replay value with a story that could be a movie with characters as compelling as any I’ve seen in game. It’s the game that brought me back to gaming!

Even after a few years, the fact that theres still things I wanna do in this games that i already did before but wanna relive it, makes this game just one of the most rarest experiences I've ever lived through with and it's amazing.... I really hope that we'll get a RDR3 in the future but its just as immensely thorough as RDR2, a masterpiece. Straight up 10/10 for me, its everything I wanted and never knew I wanted in an open world game. Amazing.

It’s Incredible how even after playing the game for 250 hours and getting the platinum trophy on PS, I still manage to find new things in this game. But you forget a very important detail of critique that a lot of people tend to mention while playing this game - chunky controls. You can over-run or walk your destination, your horse won’t respond to jumping, everything is so slow (I get it’s because of “realism, immersion”), but it kinda ruins the gameplay. But again, there are few games out there that can complete the formula. You either sacrifice realism to create a game with good gameplay (Uncharted franchise, my favorite though), or you sacrifice gameplay to create realism (RDR2)

So glad you pointed out the duplicates on the list. I was looking through that list recently, as I wanted to play some of the highest rated games I never got around to playing/finishing (currently playing Half-Life 2: Episode 2) and thought it was weird that multiple different console iterations of the same game were counted for a spot. Red Dead Redemption 2 was to be next on my list though, you definitely convinced me because I definitely felt the opening was a slog to get through but I’ll push through!

I almost stopped in the tutorial chapter, but was encouraged to continue. I adjusted all my aiming and shooting-while-riding settings and it was like a whole new controls experience, then the story put my emotions in a bear trap.

The "there's not a thousand tiny dots on the map" was what I really loved about this game. Still went and explored every tiny piece of the map and I loved it. Rockstar doesn't need all that shit because their worlds are rewarding enough to the players in themselves.

Been playing video games since pong. Had an Atari 2600 the year it launched. Been playing a LOT of video games on a lot of platforms for a looooooong time. RDR2 is EASILY hands down the best video game I've ever played. Period.
