1. Speed signs indicate your runaway speed. Your speed can be anywhere from 10km/h to whatever the sign says but the closer you get to that speed the harder it gets to maintain control of your train. 2. Just a general thing but you keep rushing things. I know this is just a video game but still, if you just slow down and don't rush, you'll have a better chance at getting that time bonus and not derailing. Me personally, I like seeing people succeed. :) 3. Your engine keeps getting hot because you're always running with the throttle open and not getting up to a good speed and then coasting. The engine is under constant load and the cooling system can't keep up. I love your videos man, you have such entertaining content and I love these videos especially. Keep at it, man. :)

I guess if we're compiling tips and suggestions for kAN then: 4. You can take the job ads/pamphlets/whatever that you want to accept into your inventory, go and hook all of them up to your train (make sure you arrange the cars such that the first one you want to unhook is at the back of your train), prep your train for departure and only THEN go to the job validator and toss all of them in at once. That way you'll have WAAAAYYYYY more time to complete the haul. 5. Every car has their job id on them. The format is like "FH-HB-71" or "SL-SU-92". Makes it easier to find the right job in the station office or the right cars if you already found a nice job in the office. 6. You can use independent brakes with lighter loads but with heavier loads you should mainly use the train brakes. Be gentle with the train brake because it takes time to repressurize. The longer your train is the longer it takes, and the longer it takes the longer you'll be bleeding speed. Going for nearly 100% brakes every time you need to slow down will quickly bog you down and cost you time. Just like in Railroads Online, sometimes all you need is just 10% or 20% brakes to keep your speed under control. 7. Plan your general route before you accept jobs and plan what and how you're going to drop-off at your destination before you get there. Sometimes you may have to reverse your train into a station or into a shunt lane because the cars you need to unhook are at the back of your train and there's a dead end with no space for the rest of your train to pull through. Edit: 3a. Letting your engine temp get to the red zone will start to cause damage to your engine which will in turn cost you lots of money in the long run. Even when climbing uphill you can kill the throttle and coast for a little while to cool down a bit before pushing the throttle back to where it was. By following these guidelines I've been able to nail those bonus times with time to spare, even with many, many licenses that shave down that bonus time. I'm sure you can do it too :)

Kan, The Crew Vehicles are found around the map. There are currently 2 crew vehicles. A Caboose, and a hand car. Also, I recommend checking out the shops at each location because the shops have items that differ between locations. For example, there's a stop watch, keys to unlock the crew vehicles, a remote to control an engine without being in the engine itself, etc.

When rerailing, the further away you rerail the more it will cost(up to $5k). A car that is off the rail but not off the track will cost about $500. Accelerate only if: You are in a yard, you are going up a hill, are getting up to speed. This conserves fuel and prevents the engine from overheating. Speed limits are not a suggestion. Plan your route ahead of time before you even take a job.

Wheelslip is your worst nightmare. It damages the wheels VERY quickly, and reduces the overall reactive effort while the wheels are slipping. It's always better to reduce the throttle and stop the slip than to keep the throttle high and wait for the train to build speed.

Yeah definitely on the train brake, if you're controlling your speed down a hill, you just want like, barely more than 0, like 5-10 degrees and then off again immediately, you'll shed 10 km/h in a few seconds. The train brake gets more effective the more cars you have, the independent becomes pretty useless at doing anything except holding a train on a grade or stopping your locomotive when you're running light loco. Source: have run a 600 metre long train over basically the same route as you, except starting from the harbour. Also: A new yard that you've never gone through will always have the points set straight-through so you don't need to worry about running through an area for the first time. (and you should definitely set switches back if you do stop and do some shunting before leaving with another train) ALSO STOP LOOKING AT YOUR BLOODY MAP WHILE DOING TWICE THE SPEED LIMIT DOWN A HILL.

Hey Kan, here are a few tips I wish I had when I started. Keep it up! 1. After any kind of accident, or at any time, you can check a car or engine's health by looking at the placard on its side. It says Vehicle and Cargo, followed by a percentage. 2. When picking a job, you can use the picture of the car count/colors to figure out which line you need to hook to before accepting the job. Buys you a little wiggle room if you want. Hook up and then accept. 3. Most of the time you can't really make good use out of going over 60-70kph, at least not until you are experienced with the route. 4. More than half throttle = temp increase in shunter. Build speed and coast. 5. Most Freight jobs (green sheets) have clear delivery lanes you can drive through for easy unload, unless the yard doesn't have a connection on the back of the line. In that case, you will need to back it in, but they usually have spots to easily reverse direction. Most logistic jobs have something in the way you'll need to move. 6. When a train is ON, you are accumulating running costs. Even if you are not moving. This plays a much bigger role once you get into manual servicing. I did a 2-job, using dual DE6's, pulling total 38 loaded cars @ well over a 1,000T and my running costs were like 15k, but I profited over 100k! 7. F1 - F8 are your FRIENDS! Learn them and you'll love them. 8. Pull into a delivery and don't even unhook, just hurry up and turn that sucker in! 9. Coal train is SUPER fun, you'll love it! Once you unlock it and Hazmat 1, pull some jobs from the Oil yards. Big money, like 40-50k each or more! 10. DE6 has no manual in-game. Google it, once you get it unlocked. P.S. Shunt jobs are a lot of busy work but can be quite profitable. Plus, you get to unload/load in most cases. These are just my experiences and there is a TON more to learn out there!

F1-F8 is a terrible way to use the keyboard tbh. I rebound it to: Throttle - Y for up, H for down Train brake - U for up, J for down Ind. Brake - I for up, J for down Reverser - O for up, L for down Makes it easier to use multiple controls at once. Also remember that quote and semicolon are for selecting which car to couple or uncouple with the remote, and period and forward slash do the coupling/uncoupling.

you can use the scroll wheel to adjust things, lets you move by one notch easy which makes more sense after to get the train remote (which has a sweet auto couple button and tells you how big your train is, my largest is 101 with 6 de6's the caboose and 94 cars) when your going downhill try putting the train brakes at 1 then fine adjust with the independent, also you can apply the air brakes on the cars by opening the air valve with a disconnected hose, but they will have to re-pressurize when re-connected.
@ASOTFAN16
@ASOTFAN16 2 жыл бұрын
When you're pulling any sort of freight that weighs more than like 70 tons you wanna use the train brake more. The independent brake is for the locomotive only which doesn't do much when you have that much weight behind you. So if you're pulling a freight, always use the train brake. Just make sure to release it a little earlier then when you're at the desired speed because it needs a bit of time to build up pressure again which makes it stay on for a little longer.

Some things I've learned - turn the engine off whenever you're coasting. It saves on fees and fuel and every penny saved is penny made. Also, logistic hauls and concurrent license are great because you can have a freight load and then throw another 3 empty cars to make more money with your copay staying around 10,000, so you always make a profit on every run even if you damage the cars.

tip: trains roll ALOT so don't have the throttle full open all the time, put it on idle and let the train roll or the engine temp will get real high. 200+ tons even roll uphill alot and downhill you mostly never need any throttle. only use the throttle to accalerate or keep the speed on a uphill section otherwise have it on idle. also on switches i would recommend going 50 or 60, i never derailed with 60 (on the switch afterwards you might derail if the corner is too tight). if youre going fast you dont need the throttle to be full open to accelerate so if the temp is getting hot pput it a bit down, also yellow also damages the engine or oil.

kAn, chill a bit. A recommendation from my job (not train conductor, but close enough): concentrate on makinng the job properly, you'll get faster automaticly (in other words: screw the bonus) btw: had the same problem comming up from the food factory but I chose taking another route before reaching the top some hints (to get the bonus): 0. irl: take pen and paper to make some notes 1. choose a contract and put it in your inventory (so it won't despawnn) (accepting will be step 6)a 2. check the map for your route and check the yards you like to pass 3. spot the train by checkinng the contract 4. take and align the engine and couple it to the train, releasing the brakes (but don't move the train) 5. put all switches you can reach the way you want 6. accept the job 7. start the trip to your destination and take your time 8.1 keep your eyes o the track and obey the speed limits, the speed limit counts for all of the train (careful with long trains) 8.2 except you're going uphill, than you should keep a close look on speed and engine temp, don't loose your momentum (my recommendation: play with the throttle, there should be a point when your temp is climbing slightly and so does your speed and the setting below should cool down your engine slightly while loosing some speed), even crawling means, you have momentum left 9. when approacing the station or passing one, take out your comms radio (switching device) and than either do it like in this video, if you have a save speed, go forward or just reduce the speed and keep an eye on every switch (remember the notes) 10. bring the train to a complete stop, so all cars are between the track signs 11. go to the station and finish the job anyway, it's just fun to watch you struggle with this game, i can really feel you being overwhelmd :) and thank god, you're livinng on another continent, less chances for me getting injured by you being close to a train

@fmo94jos8v3

The easiest way is to cut your max weight in half (200 for DE2 and 700 for DE6) to adjust for the 3% grade as the load capacity is calculated based on a 0% grade. This is good to know for when at places like harbor and you are just shunting within the yard (you can then get closer to the limit advertised) Alternatively, you can add the tonnage for the train cars up, then cut them in half and use the advertised numbers (400 for DE2 and 1400 for DE6) when calculating. I generally do (GROSS_TONNAGE / 2) / 400 for DE2 or (GROSS_TONNAGE / 2) / 1400 for DE6 to know how many locos to put.

To make it easier to hit the bonus times, take the job sheet (or sheets, if you want to try to run more than one job at once) and couple the train (you can usually identify it from the pictures even without the IDs - the colors and car types will match) before you accept the job. Maybe even move it closer to the office if that cuts distance off leaving. Just double-check the IDs before you actually leave.

Your experience with the formulas from railroads online should have prepared you for your engines drastic reduction in pulling power on an incline. An engine that can pull 400 tons on flat ground is not going to be able to pull 200 tons up a 2% incline without significant trouble. You are basically running cargo to the iron mine with a Betsy. For heavy loads I always try to route through the main line where the steel mill is because it's flat, and fairly straight. The shorter routes are generally slower because of the grade and tight corners.

So he gets distracted, and derails. Five minutes later, gets distracted and details. Whenever I’m coming up on an area where I’m not sure I’ve get the tracks set I stop the train, get out, skip around using the F key and make sure my switches are set. About the only yard you can blow through at over 50 is the steel yard, and 60 is about the cap for that. But yeah, if you are going to be looking at anything for more than 10 seconds or so, either make sure you are in a long straight no switch area, slow your train down a lot, or just stop your train.

What i really love about this game that the amount of cars on the map are always consistant. They dont dissapear and at some point you need to "clean up" the stations. Another point i want to mention: Know the route you are going. Find sections where you can build up momentum and sections where to coast to let your engine cool down before a climb. Also get to know the speed limit of switches below 60.

Each throttle setting tops out at a certain speed. Once the train reaches that speed, keeping throttle is pointless. You will save fuel and overheat less on flat ground if you accelerate up to the limit, cut throttle and let it fall 5km/h, then add throttle again to get back to the limit as needed.

Another addition to the plentiful collection of tips in the comments: An easy way to give you more time on a contract is to find the cars you are going to move before you accept the contract. The train looks always almost exactly like it's shown on the front page so finding it is quite easy. Just move your engine there before you accept and to ensure your contract doesn't disappear put it in your inventory. If you do this it might save you up to 10 min or more.

Alright so you have your train brake and your independent brake. When pulling large/heavy trains don’t even touch the independent brake. It really only helps when pulling around in the yard or for getting coupled to something. When using the train brakes for the other 95% of the game i would recommend only applying 1-3 notches of brake. Unless it’s a code brown moment then max it out to full. But you want to avoid braking heavily because it takes a long time to build pressure back up and if you’re on a hill it could sabotage your whole run. So at most try to do 3 notches of brake to hold your speed.

Really the reason why heavy cars derail easier is because they have a higher center of mass. If the center of mass was below the rail height the train would never derail no matter how fast you go through turns because the train would basically try to flip into the turn. Additionally, if a car would have a high mass and center of mass and you brake at the front, the high mass will push into the car in front high up and potentially push it of. If you however brake all cars at once that is not a problem.

I've run double de2's with over 500 tons of cars just fine. Take it slow, accelerate coast to not over heat. Predict slow corners and switches to slow down well in time. Oh and down hill is scare fast if you are not on the brakes. Managing speed is how you not derail.

I HIGHLY recommend doing shunting the are normal not to hard and pay less but if u do all of them at a particular area can add up pretty well because trust me you don't wanna run out of money and be able to pay fees the game bars you from doing new jobs if you have to many fees and if you have no money on top of that you have to ither mod you game or delete the save file and start over I had to learn this the hard way I only tell you this because I felt that pain the best way I can describe this game is its a fun game but VERY stressful

0:25 careful buying licences when you do not need them. Every license decreases the bonus time deadline, increases the insurance copay or both. The only exceptions are the shunting license (neutral for both), and the logistics haul (increases time bonus deadline +5% without affecting copay) Both of them should be unlocked as soon as possible if you have the funds and meet the prerequisites

oh that's good to know on those two licenses. I thought literally every license increased it so I haven't even bought the shunting one after running like 4 FH trips

Just a heads up, the lower brake valve is the independent brake, only used if the loco isn't carying any cargo. When hauling freight you should only ever use the top brake valve, whch is the automatic brake. Thanks for the videos!

your copay goes up every time you buy a new license. it starts at 100 but starts to climb rapidly once you start to buy licenses. for example Hazmat 1 increases copay by 38000 bucks

That was really funny when you saw the fee's .. but since you paid all the fee's your engine is now 100% ok refueled and full sand etc. As you buy more licenses your co-pay will go up and up and up until you are paying for everything you break. I derailed a long fuel train and got a 500k bill... ouch , took me ages to pay it off but you can do it eventually. Good luck.

hey there kAN... Been watching your content for a little while now. Keep up the great work. I was watching some older videos on Derail Valley and it seem there is a TRAIN REMOTE CONTORL to be found at one of the locations on the map.. Its located in the small blue building named "SHOP". Don't forget to tell your streaming buds also :) thanks P.s. It's well worth the 25000$. I don't regret it as first purchase in game

Kan, you don't always need to match speed limit, you could have your DE2 2 or 3 notches on the throttle and you'll be fine. Save speed limit matching when you have a bigger locomotive.

Damaging your loc by deraillment or overheating (in the red & yellow) will reduce performance of the engine by a lot. Thats why you were unable to climb that hill with a 280t train. You can always switch locs in one of the cities if your loc is damaged.

Kan could have his own episode of Mayday: Air Disasters, with trains instead of planes. Didn't prepare the cars before accepting the job Didn't check which way he should go in the switches Didn't care about topspeed and engine maintenance at all Derailed, and spent more than necessary to rerail Didn't check if all the cars where connected correctly and had to come back many times. Even after that he failed to check the map before too late and Derailled a second time. Stalled the engine on a hill and tried to hold a 276 ton cargo with just the independent brakes (That was just funny) All that with 18 minutes to go In real life you wouldn't be allowed to see a train ever again 😕

You can save time if you choose your goods first, but not validate it. Then you have unlimited time to prepare your train. If you are at the right track, Go to validate the Job. The only thing you need to do is just couple the train together. These minutes or two can really make a difference. 👍

Despite what it looks like. On most *MOST* of the map, the speed limits are something like +/- 5 mph. There are a few that are truly hazardous. But I've ridden most corners in the map +/-5 though, heaver trains take longer to do anything, that is the biggest take away. Also. De6 isn't exactly something you want to look into till you are doing jumbo jobs. Like 80-200k jobs, because its both very thirsty, and takes a lot to keep it up and running.

couldn;t help but notice, you left the old DE2 Running and didn't pay your fees Kan. That's using diesel until you pay your fees or until it runs out of diesel. you don't have to decouple to finish contracts. but if you aren't paying fees then no one will be servicing the old loco and switching off the engine for you.

you really gotta print out the new license details before you get one, Pay special attn to how much the deductible goes up Also, pick jobs that pay more per min, I did a FH job that was 375t ish and it paid over 35c/min Now that was a tough job getting up the hill outta the yard without stopping or going into shutdown...
